I have noticed the Jaws crashing issue here as well, using Jaws 18 on my
Windows 7 laptop.

It seems to happen occasionally when I am exiting out of a Microsoft Word
document.

Exiting out of, and then re-starting Jaws does not seem to help, nor does
the Windows run command.

Very disconcerting, since the only way I seem to be able to get Jaws back is
to do a hard shutdown of the computer, followed by a re-boot.

Definitely not good.

Hi all.

Recently, whilst using JAWS at work, the program has been crashing
unpredictably. Is anyone aware of an issue which could be causing this to
happen? I am currently using JAWS 18.0.2530 and windows 10.

Thanks,

If you open the Settings Center while in an application, it'll open in the
Settings Center for this program specifically. If you're anywhere else on
the computer, let's say, Documents, Windows Explorer, Control Panel etc. it
will open the Explorer Settings Center. Registry has it's own Settings

Hi Mr. Ed,

Sorry about that! The keystroke is, Insert / Jaws Key + 6, on the number
row above the main keyboard. The Settings Center can also be accessed by
pressing, Insert / Jaws key + F2, to open the list of Jaws managers,
navigating by 1st letter navigation to, Settings Center, or by arrowing to,

Hi Mr. Ed,

Try the following:
If you want nothing said instead of blank in all applications try the
following:

1. Open the Settings Center, press, control, shift, + D, to open Settings
Center default all applications.
2. Arrow down to, punctuation closed..., right arrow to open, down arrow to,
customize punctuation, & press the spacebar to open. Make sure you
press the spacebar to open & not enter. Pressing enter will close the
Settings Center.
3. Tab to the Advanced button & press spacebar to open. The first item in
the list will be, blank, so tab 1 time to, edit description button, &
press the spacebar to open. The word, blank, will be in this edit field.
Delete the word, blank, put a space with the spacebar, & press enter.
4. Tab to okay, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press the spacebar, tab to
apply, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press the spacebar to save your
changes & close the Settings Center.

If you don't want this in all applications, open the desired applications

Hi All,

How do you get Jaws to stop announcing blank when you arrow down a document

the spacebar with the labels key setting in Jaws quick settings. But I don't
want to stop it from announcing when I use the space bar but only when

But if that is the only way to stop Jaws from announcing blank I would than
go and turn it off when pressing the spacebar if that stops it from

Thank for any help on this matter.

2017-03-31 Thread leonard morris
I'm trying to get rid of a program called ByteFence. I'm not sure how it
got installed but I think it might have something to do with an
installation of another program called Chromium browser. I also don't
know how even the Chromium browser got downloaded and installed either.
However, I uninstalled Chromium browser successfully but the ByteFence
message keeps coming up on the desktop with the following information. I
reviewed msconfig to see if it was in programs that started on PC at
boot up but its unchecked. I ran vipre antivirus but that didn't remove
the unwanted program message. Any ideas how to resolve the issue with
this program? Please see the below screen shot. Thanks.

JAWS stops occasionally on me, too - using latest build of J17/Win7.
For this reason, I keep J16 live so can have speech. I had a sense that
J18 was not quite up to par for Win7 machines so I've held off until I see an
update which fixes the issue you mention. I have little patience at work with
technology not functioning, so I'm super careful not to get the latest thing.
Just my way of doing things.

I just checked the Braille pages for Weather Underground for New York City,
Westbury, NY, Chicago, and Los Angeles, and in each case, only the current
weather conditions and special weather statements are displayed, with no
current day or ten day forecasts. So for now, I am using Weather.com to get
the then day forecast for New York City. If you want an alternative to Weather
Underground for ten day forecasts, just google something like “ten day forecast
for 12345” (where 12345 is your zip code) and see what results are returned and
use the one that is most accessible.

Hi Mr.

If you don't want this in all applications, open the desired applications
individually & use the above steps in each application. HTH

Take care.

Hi All,

How do you get Jaws to stop announcing blank when you arrow down a document
or an email? I know you can stop Jaws from announcing blank when you press
the spacebar with the labels key setting in Jaws quick settings. But I don't
want to stop it from announcing when I use the space bar but only when
arrowing down a document or email. Is the possible to do?

But if that is the only way to stop Jaws from announcing blank I would than
go and turn it off when pressing the spacebar if that stops it from
announcing blank when arrowing down a document or email.

Thank for any help on this matter.

Re: [JAWS-Users] copy pages in a word document

2017-03-31 Thread Mike B.
Hi Claudette,

See if this will help you:
From: Marquette, Ed
In fact, the Windows key is employed with a number of fantastic JAWS
keystrokes. One which I have come to use on an hourly basis is control plus
windows plus k to mark a spot in a word document.
One may later jump back to that spot instantly with just windows plus k;
however, even more cool is the ability, in Word, to mark text from your
cursor to the marked spot, and it doesn't matter whether, in the document,
your cursor is ahead of the marked spot or behind it or whether it is 4
words or 40 pages away. You mark text back to the marked spot with JAWS key
plus space bar and then m.
Then, you can use control c to copy or control x to cut or windows c to
append.
Try it! You'll like it!
Ed

Take care.

2017-03-31 Thread Gerald Levy

I spoke to a Verizon customer service agent who confirmed that Verizon is in
the process of phasing out its email service and migrating customers to AOL or
other providers. Not all regions are affected yet, and Verizon customers will
receive an email notification with instructions on how to proceed when the time
comes for them to switch . Also, there will be a notification on the
customer’s Verizon account page when it comes time to switch. In the meantime,
Verizon customers can learn more about the impending discontinuation of email

The Mail app is working fine for me, how do you think I wrote this lesson. Yes,
they need to improve some issues with Jaws. But over all for a basic email

for each account, and see what settings work best for you. Good luck. Smiles.

[JAWS-Users] Weather Underground Still Not Working

2017-03-31 Thread Gerald Levy

I just checked the Braille pages for Weather Underground for New York City,
Westbury, NY, Chicago, and Los Angeles, and in each case, only the current
weather conditions and special weather statements are displayed, with no
current day or ten day forecasts. So for now, I am using Weather.com to get
the then day forecast for New York City. If you want an alternative to Weather
Underground for ten day forecasts, just google something like “ten day forecast
for 12345” (where 12345 is your zip code) and see what results are returned and
use the one that is most accessible.

Hi,
Go to the freedomscientific.com web page.
Find and enter the training link.
Find and enter the link named "webinars - view all."
You will find a long list of free webinars.
They are excellent.
The flexible web webinar is in there.
There are also paid webinars.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS crashing

2017-03-31 Thread Adam Ferguson
Hi all.

Recently, whilst using JAWS at work, the program has been crashing
unpredictably. Is anyone aware of an issue which could be causing
this to happen? I am currently using JAWS 18.0.2530 and windows 10.

Thanks,

Adam.

Re: [JAWS-Users] The Mail app, your best friend

2017-03-31 Thread jobennett39
and of course the mail app isn't working at the moment. Apparently Freedom
Scientific are working on it and it will be fixed in the next Jaws 18 up
date.

I'm wondering how long they usually take?
