This is what I need to do, hit control home and then Jaws down arrow.
Why is this, this is not acceptable.
This behavior does not happen in Windows 10 mail, messages are read in their
entirety when opening an email.
Work arouns like control home and then doing a say all such as must be done
in outlook are a productivity killer and should not be tolerated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] opening up an email

2017-06-02 Thread Adrian Spratt
Patti, for years now, I've been in the habit of pressing control-home when I
open an email message. This does two things. First, it momentarily shuts JAWS
up. It also places focus at the top of the message field and JAWS starts
speaking from there. An extra keystroke, but it's such a habit that I don't
think about it anymore.

Hi Jerry, is it only on this particular email or all your other emails with
attachment?
Try saving the file with alt, S A and it will prompt you to save all
attachments. If no attachment is there, it will say no attachment to be
saved.

I haven't looked at this entire discussion, so maybe the following isn't
relevant, but when searching for messages in Microsoft Outlook, you can
specify "has:attachment" (without the quotation marks and with no spaces, as
shown) to restrict the search to messages that have attachments.

2017-06-02 Thread Adrian Spratt
Actually, what Clifford wrote gives you important information. If you back-tab
once and don't hear JAWS verbalize "attachment," it usually means there is no
attachment. That's the case here. For future reference, if the message field
contains links, then you might not automatically land on the attachment field.
Sometimes what senders call an attachment is actually buried inside the message
field, and it can usually be found by searching for objects with the quick
navigation key letter "o," so long as you have email set to HTML.

Hi,

If the attachment is up in the header below the subject line and above the
body of the message, Shift+Tab will move you there. However, if the
attached is embedded in the body of the message, as far as I know, you
cannot find it with JAWS. Maybe someone has more up-to-date information on
this issue.

Hi list,

Please tell Russ Keen that the triple talk usb is not supported with Jaws.
I don't know why the heck it stopped, but what I do know is the m20 is
still listed as a braille device.
They did not remove that, but removed support for triple talk usb.

Your lister,

Yes it comes and goes, but it seems to have something to do with JAWS,
and I think it started at one of the JAWS 18 upgrades.

Hello,

With Windows Version 10.0.14393, when I hit Insert+F10 to show "window
list", I am now seeing this "OverlayWindow0 On Top" that I've never
seen before.

I have seen it just after boot up, after loading Outlook and at other
random times.

When I hit Enter to open it and hit Insert+Q twice quickly, it tells
me "JAWS for Windows settings are used in the jfw.exe application. The
configuration name is JAWS Window. The current scheme is Classic."

When I hit Insert+F1, I get "JAWS may not recognize this control. To
show JAWS what type of control it is, press Insert+7. To see more
technical information on the control, press Control+Insert+F1."

When I hit Control+Insert+F1, I get,

"Window Technical Information:

Control ID 0

Class OverlayWindowClass_F7A740FA-AB45-4F46-BB58-3DCEDB196F1C

Handle 983746".

So, it shows the Control Id, Class and Handle. Try saying that Class
real fast. Bet you can't.

When I use Alt+Tab to cycle through my open programs, I don't land on
this Overlay Window; even when I've opened it from the window list.

Do any of you JAWS experts have an explanation for this Overlay window?

Thanks,

Reed

Re: [JAWS-Users] Creators update, The Insert and Escape keys, your best friend part 2

2017-06-02 Thread Jim Flusche
Hi Mr. Mike, yes, even a pinhead forgets to paiste the message in the email.
LOL. Read below.
Creators update, The Insert and Escape keys, your best friend part 2
This is a text tutorial, provided freely by The W-10 and Jaws group, anyone may
freely share this file.
Author: Jim Flusche

So useing the laptop keyboard layout in Jaws is an advantage, not a drawback.
Again for this lesson I will call the capslock key the Jaws key and the numpad
insert key, the insert key.
For example: using the laptop keyboard layout, For some Jaws keystrokes you
must use the Capslock+Shift+Control, plus a key on the keyboard to do them.
For Example, in the laptop keyboard layout, If you are running Jaws from the
system trey, pressing capslock+Shift+Control+J, Brings up the JAWS options menu
window, with the options sub menu highlighted for you.
You can also press Numpad Insert+J, in the desktop keyboard layout to bring up
the JAWS options menu window.
Another example, using the laptop keyboard layout, Pressing
Capslock+Shift+Control+H, Places JAWS Hot Keys in the Virtual Viewer.
You can review them with the Arrow keys, and press the Escape key to close this
window.
Using the desktop keyboard layout, pressing the numpad Insert+H, Places JAWS
Hot Keys in the Virtual Viewer.
In the below lesson I will list the Insert key keystroke, followed by the
Laptop keyboard layout Capslock key keystroke.
I personally use the Jaws laptop keyboard layout, that way I can choose what
keyboard keystroke combonations, works best for using both my hands.
So it's very nice to have another Jaws modifier key, to use when pressing Jaws
keystrokes involving the pressing of many keys on the keyboard.
**Now let us look at how to use Jaws layered keystrokes, Insert+Spacebar, or
Capslock+Spacebar, followed by a letter.
This means when you press Insert+Spacebar, or Capslock+Spacebar, you will hear
a ding sound, you then can press a certain letter or key to open one of the
many options for the Jaws layered keystrokes.
For example: Pressing Insert+Spacebar, or Capslock+Spacebar, followed by the ?
Question mark, you will hear:
Search commands press J.
Repeat last background notification from Skype press Shift+R.
Show recent speech history press H.
Clear recent speech history press Shift+H.
View text on clipboard press C.
Select text between marked place and current position press M.
Customize web page with Flexible Web press X.
ResearchIt press R.
OCR Feature Layer press O.
Table Navigation Layer press T.
Switch to your recent Windows Live Messages press Number row 1 through 5.
Text Analyzer press A.
Mute Synthesizer press S.
Lock Keyboard press L.
Toggle audio ducking press D, still working on this in the Creators update.
So let us look at most of these layered keystrokes one at a time.
**Pressing either the Numpad Insert+Spacebar, or the Capslock Jaws
key+Spacebar, followed by the letter J, opens the search for Jaws commands
window.
For example, after pressing Insert+Spacebar, or Capslock+Spacebar, followed by
J, You are in a Jaws search for commands edit box, type the word copy, press
the tab key, you are put in a Jaws HTML page of results.
You can use the Arrow keys or H, for heading or Insert+F7, for a Links list,
press the Escape key to close this window.
Below is an example of what comes up, when you type the word copy in to the
Jaws search for commands edit box, and press the Tab key, I have shortened the
results.
*Copy Selected Text To Clipboard. Control + C
Standard Windows copy command, usually found in the Edit menu, any selected
text or items will be copied to the Windows Clipboard. The selected items or
text can then be pasted into another window or application.
*View Clipboard Text. press Insert+Spacebar, or Capslock+Spacebar, followed by
the letter C.
The Clipboard Text Viewer displays all text that has been copied to the Windows
Clipboard using the standard Windows Copy and Cut commands, press escape to
close this window.
*Virtualize Window. Alt + Insert + W or Capslock+ALT+W.
This keystroke displays the text in the current window in the Virtual Viewer.
You can then select the text and copy and paste it to another application, such
as an e-mail message. This is especially useful in error dialog boxes, press
escape to close this window.
*Select Text Between Marked Place And Current Position. Insert+Spacebar, or
Capslock+Spacebar, followed by the letter M.
This command selects text between the temporary Placemarker and current virtual
cursor location. You may then use Control+c to copy the selected text to the
clipboard.
*For example: on a website, press Control+Windows+k, to set a temporary
Placemarker at the beginning of the text to be copied.
At the end of the text to be copied, press Insert+Spacebar, or
Capslock+Spacebar, followed by the letter M, all the text in-between has been
selected, press Control+C to copy all the text.
*Append Selected Text To Clipboard. Insert + Windows + C or

Hello try the following;
Perhaps the attachments aren't able to be downloaded?
1, open windows live mail,

Alt+f=file,
Down arrow to options sub-menu,
Right arrow to open,
Up arrow to safety options,
Press enter,

Now ctrl+tab until you hear security,
Now tab and uncheck the boxes,
Warn me when other applications try to send mail as me.
Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could
potentially be a virus.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Making Word 2010 default line spaving to single

2017-06-02 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Mr. Ed,

Here are a few things you can try. If these don't work then deleting the
Normal.DOTM and restarting your system or doing a repair on Word might be
necessary. Method 3 modifies the line spacing for your normal style.

Method 1 Using Single Spacing:

Use the application key and choose Paragraph from the menu.
In the indents and spacing page tab of the Paragraph dialog box make sure
the two spin boxes for Before and After are set to 0.
Set line spacing to Single.
For the "At" edit spin box press backspace until nothing is in the box.
The "Don't add space between paragraphs of the same style" checkbox should
be checked.
At this point use OK and check it out in your document.
Go back into the Paragraph dialog box and make sure options are still as you
set them.
Tab to the Set as Default button and use spacebar.
You will get a dialog box in which you can tab to a group of radio buttons.
"This document only" will likely be checked so arrow down to "All documents
based on the normal.DOTM template.
Tab to OK button and press spacebar.

Method 2, Set line spacing to "Exactly."

In the same control where you choose single or double spacing choose the
option for Exactly.
In the Before and After controls use 0 points.
In the "At" edit spin box 12 points is about right. This is needed for
leading. No matter what you set for spacing a certain amount of leading is
necessary for the various types of fonts used and the heights necessary for
characters of the various types of fonts.
Check the "Don't add space between paragraphs of the same style" box.
Use the button for saving changes as default.
Pick the radio button for changes to be for all templates based on the
normal.DOTM template.
Use OK as necessary.
(This will result in similar line spacing to that used in older versions of
Word).

Method 3, Modify Style:

Use Alt CTRL Shift and S to launch the Styles pane.
Use F6 until in the styles pane.
Use the Manage Styles button. You will likely find it faster by using Shift
tab until you find it rather than tabbing.
In the resulting window find the Modify button and use it.
In the resulting window use shift tab from the OK button to the Format
button and press enter key.
Arrow down to Paragraph and press enter key.
Change the After control to 0 by using down arrow key.
Change line spacing to Single.
Make sure nothing is in the "At" control. With focus in the "At" control
use backspace to remove any value.
Use spacebar to check the "Don't add space between paragraphs of the same
style."
Use the OK button.
Use shift tab to the radio buttons that determine if the change is just for
the existing document or all documents. "New documents based on this
template" should be selected.
Use the OK button.
Use shift tab and you will find the same radio buttons so arrow down to "New
documents based on this template."
Use the OK button.

After making any of the above changes it is a good idea to restart Word
and maybe even your system.

Take care.

try changing the paragraph settings while you have the normal.dot template

Ah, got it. An obvious question: did you go through the process of having JAWS

working at all. But I ask anyway. I know how important it is to maintain access

The easiest way to ensure that your antivirus software is working is

I did this, and found that microsoft security essentials leaves it.

I got concerned when I knowingly saved a file as I wanted to see if it
would pick up the file. I left it for awhile and saved it on one of my

that I found that allowed me to see what antivirus picked this

I've got Windows 7, 64 bit. I don't think MSE is doing the trick

Joseph,

You do have a valid point today, but if it is something known, the
antivirus should be able to pick it up. The fact a file sat on my
machine so I could see how MSE performed with it and it never picked it
up and I knew it was infected gave me the hint that it wasn't seemingly

I will add that there is absolutely no fail-proof antivirus. All it takes is

computer as most attacks are social in nature which trick the end user into
allowing files to run on your computer.

I've been using MSE for about 7 years now without a single hint of

Does the outlook express version on the jaws web site work with imap?

Secondly, does anyone no of any word game/s one can play using jaws?

In advance, thank you.

[JAWS-Users] question about Ultra ISO

2017-06-02 Thread David Ferrin
I have started to figure this program out a little bit. So far I can modify
a bootable ISO file and resave it to make my own custom win PE images just
adding a couple of items to what Carlos has already created. BTW he does a
great job. Now I would like to create a bootable ISO from scratch so to
speak for the purposes of wiping an old drive before I get rid of it. Any
pointers in that direction would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Making Word 2010 default line spaving to single

2017-06-02 Thread Dialup

Hello Mr Ed
Groan. Don't you hate PC's when they behave way outside the spec.
So there's something going on that 'over rides' the default settings.
What about deleting the normal.dotx template file from Windows Explorer.
Word 'should' rebuild it the next time you launch it. I say 'should'
with trepidation.

YMMV.
Good luck

my computers and it does the same thing. It does not default to single line
spacing. The only way I can get it to type in single line spacing is put 1 in
the box and check the box about line spacing for paragraph and then press ok.
Then it will type in single line spacing until I close word and reopen a new
word document and then it is back to double line spacing even though it says
single line spacing in the dialog box.
Thanks for your help and assistance.

Mr Ed
Try this:
Press Alt + P, PG to open the paragraph options box.
Press Alt + A to move the focus to the Line Spacing At box and enter the number
1.
Press TAB to move the focus to the Defaults button and press enter.
In the pop up window, press Alt + A to select the radio button labelled 'All
Documents based on the Normal.dotm template'
TAB to the OK button and press enter.
Restart Word and see how that goes.

I imagine mSE will continue to be updated until Microsoft no longer supports
it, at which time you'll probably suddenly find you have Windows Defender
instead, or will be told you need to upgrade to it. mS is good at this;
you'll always be notified so long as you don't mess around with your
autoupdate settings too much.

This article may help you:
https://www.howtogeek.com/225385/what%e2%80%99s-the-best-antivirus-for-windo
ws-10-is-windows-defender-good-enough/

The info there pertains to Windows Defender specifically but probably
applies to MSE just as well at this time. And I'd say a 94% success rate (or
so) is more than sufficient for most people.

Remember, in my case my default is double-space. And yes, every time I open
word, the document is double-spaced. I know you want every document to open
with single-spacing, and I'm racking my brains to think why your Word

Hi Adrian,
Yes I have just selected single line and press the ok button. When I have
done this it still types in double line spacing even though it says single
in the space box. I have two W10 computers running Word 2010 and they both
do the exact same thing. The only way I can get it to single line space is
to put the number 1 in the at box right after you tab from single then I
have to put a check mark in where is says, Don't add space between
paragraphs of the same style check box. Then I can press ok then it will
type in single line spacing. Then if I close word and re-open Word then it
will type in double line spacing even though it shows single line spacing in
the paragraph dialog box. I had the Microsoft Disability line work on it and
they could not get it to stay on single line spacing.
So let me ask you one question. When you are using your word and you first
open it up does it type in single space or double space?

Hi Everyone.

I press the application key in Word 2010 and press P to go to paragraph.
Then I change the space to single. But it still does not type in single line
spacing. Then I went back into the paragraph dialog box and

I then put a 1 in the At box and check the box that said not to space after
a paragraph. Then press ok. Then it typed in single line. But then I opened
a new document and it was back to double line spacing. I went back into the
pargraph dialog box and made all the same changes again and press save as

doing wrong to get word to stay defaulted to single line spacing?

Thank you for the help where do I get the most update to date MS security
essentials?

I imagine mSE will continue to be updated until Microsoft no longer supports
it, at which time you'll probably suddenly find you have Windows Defender
instead, or will be told you need to upgrade to it. mS is good at this; you'll
always be notified so long as you don't mess around with your autoupdate
settings too much.

This article may help you:

ws-10-is-windows-defender-good-enough/

The info there pertains to Windows Defender specifically but probably applies
to MSE just as well at this time. And I'd say a 94% success rate (or
so) is more than sufficient for most people.

Where do you get ms security is it still being updated? How does it rank today
for stopping viruses?

Interesting, I'll have to check the help files about how to switch to the JAWS
cursor and check it out.

Later...
