Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS is not speaking control descriptions
Hi Mike, Thank you for replying. Yes, I checked both Quick Settings and the Settings Center for the active verbosity level. In the active level, which is Beginner, I have checked the Control Descriptions item, and changing between long or short messages produce the same result on this problem. Regarding Speech and Sounds Manager, I only changed the Classic scheme to make different heading levels to play piano sounds. Even so, I tried reverting to the original Classic scheme but, as I supposed, the problem is not fixed. I also tried running JAWS in English to see if perhaps this is a specific issue in the Spanish version (it wouldn't be the first time I must edit a translated message missing a %1 or documentation which states things in an order different to the actual one, for example), but this issue is also present in English. I think this should be somewhat related to the FocusChangedEvent, but my knowledge of event functions and scripting language in general is poor. As a workaround I tried to add the SayControlDescription function in the FocusChangedEvent, but it didn't worked at all. Do you have some other ideas I can try? Re: [JAWS-Users] turning off some speech
Hi Andy, I'm not sure that I'm completely understanding what you are wanting. Your email address being read can be for a few reasons like, what columns you have checked in the View menu, in what order the columns are in or, how your address book is set up, or possibley how your messages are sorted. These are a few reasons. If you can explain in a little more detail it would be more help. Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. Arguing with a woman is like reading a software license agreement. [JAWS-Users] Custom Labels
Good Morning Folks I have never used the custom lables feature of JAWS but have a webpage where it maybe useful for me. So to give you background I am the Financial Secretary for a local chapter of an organization with nearly 1000 members where I collect annual dues we have an online billing nd recording website which is semi accessible . Where I would record dues there are edit boxes to enter amount of payment and check number that are not labeled. I have memorized how to navigate the page however every once in a while I post to the wrong account as I type faster than my brain keeps up. The names are in a table and the paid amount edit boxes are in a column in said table and the same to record the check number. So my 2 questions are as follows. First if I put a custom label in the top edit box of the column is there a way to replicate it down that column? Second once dues are paid the names come off the list for the year does anyone know if the labels will hold when I bill out for next year? Just trying to determine if this is worth the effort or just stick with what I am doing. Use Alt followed by N followed by P for choosing a picture to insert. Browse to the PNG file and insert it. JAWS recognizes the inserted picture as an object. Use CTRL with shift and O to select the picture. JAWS should speak the height and width of the picture at this point. Press enter key. When you press enter key the "Lay out options" pane should appear. It might come up and have keyboard focus right on the "See more" button or you might have to use F6 until focus is in the pane. Press spacebar on the "See more" button. There will be three page tabs in the resulting dialog box. Go to the Size page. You can tab across to confirm absolute height and width. The aspect ratio will likely be locked and be relative to the original picture size. As you tab you should find a rotation box and it is likely on zero degrees. There are also two boxes for adjusting height and width, which will only work if you uncheck the aspect ratio checkbox. If you do uncheck that checkbox and adjust height and width percentages then JAWS will speak the new dimensions in the document when you use CTRL with shift and O to select the picture. I hope this is what you are wanting. Take care. I've found two ways to get picture dimensions from a file as of today. One is through file properties, in the details tab. This is metadata, so this is recorded by whatever app or camera took the photo, and not something determined by your computer. You should look for "dimensions" in the list box. The other way is indeed through the photos app. I do not know if this is also metadata or whether the app performs some kind of analysis on the picture to determine dimensions. You want the "file information" button. Because the photos app is a modern app, the JAWS cursor will not work, I think. So you will need to use the touch cursor, or simply hit jaws key+b to read the entire text of the window, which will include the "file information" that appears when you hit the button. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of jyandt.mar...@comcast.net Sent: February 5, 2018 6:31 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Image Inquiry JM: My main issue with this whole thing is, when I open the file, it opens in photos.
