Re: [JAWS-Users] VLC Keystrokes
Hi. Well, I understand what you mean, but as someone who started using PCs in the days when people still used dos 4.2, and as a blind user, it seems to me logical that sometimes the GUI will not be as nice and convenient as the command line. I admit the syntax of certain things can be daunting, and like most people I have come to use the GUI 99% of the time. But you know, sometimes, only the command line will suffice. I use it all the time for instance for formatting drives. I also created a powershell line that generates a number of random filenames when I want to pick a m movie to watch and can't really decide for myself. I did this when after lots of searching I could not find a GUI program that did exactly what I wanted. Windows also comes with a number of useful command line tools, like "takeown", which is much faster and easier way of taking ownership of key system files rather than messing around with the not-totally-friendly security properties dialog box. I always say to everyone that if you can find a quick command line way to do things, it's usually more efficient. But it sounds like you know this already and I don't need to say anything. Haha. Cheers. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Hareth Sent: March 20, 2018 8:10 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] VLC Keystrokes Oh, Sure it could be done that way, Was talking on a basic UI for everyone. Hi Dave & All, Okay, got it figured out! Hot damn, & holy bat crap! LOL LOL Here's what I did: 1. With a sound file running, I opened the system tray / pressed enter on the Speaker icon. 2. Opened the Volume Mixer, tabbed to the VLC option, & sure as sh*t, the volume was at, 0%! Wow. That is weird. I have 3.0.1, and I just verified, though I never thought to check before, that if I open VLC, and check the volume mixer, it shows up there right away without having to open a file. It also never reset to 0. Strange how different behaviour can sometimes manifest with these things. Lenny, I also have Windows 7 and JAWS 2018, and these two commands are working in IE here. However, I've noticed that lately control-up/down arrow sometimes don't move by paragraph in IE. This behavior is erratic, and because I'm forced to switch between versions of JAWS so often, I can't be sure about any consistency. I do think that rebooting solves the problem for a while. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List On Behalf Of Lenny McHugh Sent: Tuesday, March 20, 2018 11:38 PM To: JFW List Subject: [JAWS-Users] 2018 next and previous word I just noticed that it also no longer works when reading a web page in I.E. I have to take a look to the current documentation if a set of commands to deal with windows command line, that talks about the hotkeys. because they add and remove things from their documentation through the years as far as I can tell. Oh, Sure it could be done that way, Was talking on a basic UI for everyone. Command line is not that popular you know, That's why I prefer not talking about it myself, if it is not a must use case. Although a batch script to do the whole task for more convenient set of hotkeys, could be a good idea. Even if it requires more digging. I believe its worth it. I'll look into this a little more myself. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Hareth Sent: March 20, 2018 7:41 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] VLC Keystrokes Re map is a good solution, The problem is its a tough task. Re: [JAWS-Users] VLC Keystrokes
The voluem up/down hotkey works, but inconsistently for me. It's quite strange. You can increase or decrase the volume through the audio menu, but using the hotkeys would be more convenient. Unfortunately results are unpredictable with it. I haven't really looked into this, but I believe it is possible to completely remap all VLC keyboard commands. Thus, JAWS users could adopt different volume control keystrokes. However, as I said, I've never looked into this; frankly I've always found it much simpler to use default keys; it also helps when trying to explain to someone how to do something, of course. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Hareth Sent: March 20, 2018 7:02 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] VLC Keystrokes Mike, My man, that list is for general usage, and the VLC wiki provides more complete and up to date lists. and the important key for volume change doesn't work that's only with jaws users unfortunately. [JAWS-Users] Tie mouse pointer to PC cursor?
Sometimes when a sighted person is trying to help with a Web site they tell me they can’t see what I am hearing Jaws say. Is there a way to tether the mouse cursor to the PC cursor that I am using. Routing the mouse cursor to the PC cursor usually doesn’t work. Tom For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] vlc
Winamp will play CDs, but not DVDs. I use Winamp for audio; VLC for video, which inclues DVDs and all ripped video formats. Windows Media player should play your cds. I don't use it, but you should be able to configure windows to do this. It appears Windows media Player will play DVDs, if you have a decoder installed. In other words, it will not do this out of the box. Read this page and you will see instructions for playing CDs, and the playing of movie dvds is also referenced. https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/15067/windows-media-player-play-cd- dvd -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Justin Williams Sent: March 20, 2018 6:29 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] vlc Oops, wrong reply. Hi. Thanks for posting the list. I guess I'm a d*ck for not doing that earlier; I just figured people would use google to find it. Yes, you're right about the ctrl-up and down arrow. I think JAWS uses those keystrokes normally, no? You could do a key passthrough, but that is a bit of a pain. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Hareth Sent: March 20, 2018 5:26 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] vlc Hi David and All, Below is the URL for the official VLC wiki keyboard hotkeys table. plus I'm pasting the list below that. Re: [JAWS-Users] vlc
That's unfortunate. There might be some kind of copy protection scheme interfering with it. They always play fine for me when I open them using the media menu, but I have heard of this happening, and there is something about it in the vlc docs. I think there is a workaround of sorts, but have no experience with it, so you'd have to read the docs or look at the VLC forum for some pointers. Good luck. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Justin Williams Sent: March 19, 2018 10:19 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] vlc I downloaded vlc, but the dvd and cd won't play. Hm. That's very strange. Admittedly though I only use VLC for video. I will test on these standard audio file types you mention and see what happens. In general I'm very happy with VlC 3.0.1 and find it to be an improvement in two key areas over the previous versions: speed and accessibility. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike B. Re: [JAWS-Users] vlc
Hi. As Has already been said, even though I just started using it the other week, it does seem that 3.0 is working a little better (read more consistently in this case) with JAWS (18, in my case) than version 2.2.whatever did. I have 3.0 64 bit here and I must say it also loads video files really quickly. The most difficult thing from an accessibility standpoint seems to be using the advanced preferences dialog. When you first hit ctrl-p for preferences, you get the simple preferences box, with only a few options. You have to depress the "all" radio button to see the huge screen of about a million options. You select each category from there using a list box. Unfortunately the checkboxes, edit boxes and such within these categories do not always speak either their state or name data. Sometimes, you will have to hit the space bar before you can even determine whether you are in a checkbox and whether its state is checked or unchecked. T Hese options are not necessarily something everyone will want to play around with, though. If you want to save your own equalizer settings however, or apply any sort of advanced video or audio filtering, they are a must. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of David Ferrin Sent: March 20, 2018 10:18 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] vlc I am it would seem to be a late comer to this VLC program. Hello, I am in search of authorware (such as Adobe Captivate, or Articulate) that may be used by a visually impaired user who uses Jaws. Re: [JAWS-Users] how to run a repair on jaws 2018
read below for a much faster way to do a Jaws repair starting with the J2018.1710.42enu-x64.exe. Close all applications. Go to your download folder where the latest jaws file is, in my case the J2018.1710.42enu-x64.exe. Press the applications key, press enter on run as administrator. Your computer will ask you to do a repair, press enter on repair. In 5 to 10 minutes, it will be done, restart your computer at the prompt, you are finished. George A. Re: [JAWS-Users] vlc
I am it would seem to be a late comer to this VLC program. I have known about it for a long time, I just haven't actively checked it out much as of yet. I have it installed and will start fiddling with it possibly today. If anybody has any getting started tips to send along I would be interested in reviewing them, thanks in advance. -Original Message- From: Mike B. It wouldn't play MP3 or WAV files, & it was set to play all files. I uninstalled it, & went back to the vlc-2.2.8-win64 version. It's playing just fine now. Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Re: [JAWS-Users] vlc
Okay, so I can find the 2.2 version then? I didn't have that on my pc originally. Do they give me the option to download the 2.2 version on the page? -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike B. [JAWS-Users] updated CCleaner
The issue when the updated CCleaner no longer brings up the results of the files deleted has been addressed, I asked with my pro account, but the reply doesn’t really help me. Is there anyone really good with using jaws that can do what the CCleaner support told me? Here’s what they said: Hi Kevin, There is a button on the right side of the cleaning report screen near the top labeled "Show Advanced Report" this will take you to the screen which shows you what files have been deleted. I hope that this is helpful. I have asked the developers to look putting a keyboard shortcut into the software to bring up this screen more easily. E-mail is golden!!!
