These instructions must then be passed on to some sort of hardware device which responds to these MIDI instructions by outputting an audible response in what ever format you choose. Most computer sound cards have a very basic set of inbuilt sounds and while they sound pretty terrible, they'll do the job. You could load your MIDI track into Goldwave which I'm told is quite accessible and using your sound cards inbuilt wave map, output / mix / render the audio to mono stereo wave or even the dreaded mp3 HTH. Re: [JAWS-Users] Scanning and OCR Software
Though it is true you don't (need) a self-voicing program like Open Book and Kurzweil, there are still advantages to these more expensive packages. Open Book, for instance, has a number of helpful tools build in to the interface which make some tasks easier. Examples include, the ability to do a down and dirty conversion to Braille for export or embossing, I use this feature frequently, the ability to turn any scanned document into an audio file for later use on a MP3 player or other such device, the ability to easily find and down load on-line books to read, the ability to use reading voices which are more pleasant than Eloquence, while switching back to eloquence when responsiveness is wanted, the ability to fax or photo copy any document scanned, and my favorite feature, the ability to convert graphic Adobe PDF or PowerPoint PPTX graphic to readable text by just printing the document from Adobe or PowerPoint to the Freedom Import Printer which automatically launches Open Book and converts then reads the document to you. It is expensive, but then so is JAWS. You can do many of these things using other software, but the combination of them would add up to quite a bit, where in Open Book it's all in one easy to use interface. In short, I respect the right of anyone here to choose the solutions they prefer, but I prefer and really like Open Book. Re: [JAWS-Users] setting a gmail email address and using outlook 2010
There are two ways to do this. If you are using Google Aps, there is a Google Sync program you can download from Google which sincs up both your Google mail and your calendar. Its kind of hard to do though, so if you aren't using Google Aps professionally, the second option is probably better. If you only want to be able to send and receive Gmail through outlook the second way is simpler. You Go into Google Mail on the web, go to settings, and select IMAP/POP. This makes Gmail an IMAP server. You then open Outlook and create a new email account plugging in the Google IMAP and SMTP settings. Google explains what these are in the help section under settings. If you get too stuck, let me know and I'll open my gmail settings and find the exact configuration you'll need. Once this is set up. You can both send and receive Gmail from with in Outlook 2010. Re: [JAWS-Users] Issue with Jaws and undoing a delete action in Outlook
Never tried ctrl Z for that purpose. When I’m in the inbox list box for an email account in Outlook and am going through the various messages, I sometimes delete an email I wasn’t sure I wanted to delete. Being subscribed to many mailing lists and whatnot, my inbox fills up very quickly and especially in the morning for example, I blaze through all the emails and threads that are of no interest to me. Like I said, when doing this, I will sometimes go a bit too fast and delete a message that I maybe wanted to read or wasn’t sure if I heard the subject line correctly. In these instances, it’s easy enough to press the control z command and the message will reappear. This is with a pop3 account configuration by the way. When I press the control z command, the message will often enough pop back up without an interruption and I can continue my cleaning out of my mailbox. There are times however, when invoking the undo command that Jaws will go silent for a while, my system will get a bit sluggish and jaws will sometimes outright crash. There is no rhyme or reason to which emails I wish to recover that trigger this Jaws behavior. It can be a standalone message, a reply to someone else’s inquiry, etc. Do others in fact deal with this problem and is there a way to fix this? I have experienced this issue with prior versions of Jaws (I’m using the most recent release on a 64 bit Win7 laptop) In both Outlook 2003 and 2010 and on other computers. I am using the demo version, which means that I cannot produce a standalone .exe program and there are also nag screens when you exit the program. The program has extensive help and example programs. I have done extensive programming over the years in 370/Assembler, Cobol, Fortran, RPG, PL/1 and QuickBasic. Out of all of those languages, my all-time favorites are Assembler, RPG and QuickBasic (Fortran has many similarities to Basic). I am writing a little daily reminder program for myself, because I have never been completely satisfied with the many reminder programs which I have tested over the years. The program is almost complete and I have really been enjoying the process of learning Liberty Basic. I told my wife that writing code again is very relaxing for me. Of course, if I was forced to do it for 40 hours a week, that would probably be a different story. The link to Liberty Basic is: http://www.libertybasic.com The company also publishes a completely free Basic compiler called Just Basic. I know that it has limitations over the full version of the product and I have not tested it with Jaws, though I would assume that the accessibility should be similar. The link to Just Basic is: http://www.justbasic.com If you decide to get into Liberty Basic, contact me off-list and we can chat. Oh yes, the cost of Liberty Basic is $60. [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2007 - Reading the Recipient of MSGs
Hello, How can I change Outlook 2007 to have JAWS read the recipient of the message when I am scrolling through the list of messages in my Sent Folder, instead of the sender (myself)? My inbox works fine. JAWS reads who the message was sent by, and I do not want to change this setting. Do you know how I can adjust my Outlook / JAWS setting to accomplish this? I am using JAWS 13 and Outlook 2007. Thank you. Bill For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
