Re: [JAWS-Users] Word Document Question

This is one of the confusions of listening.
The command to move to the end of the document is control + the end key
Spell that out -- e n d, not the letter n

[JAWS-Users] JAWS and Onboard sound cards

2007-11-13 Thread First Christian Reformed Church
I'm getting ready to buy a new computer.
On previous machines I found it necessary to install a separate sound
card to handle JAWS, since the onboard sound cards didn't seem to be
adequate.
I'm guessing that with the demands of newer computer games manufacturers
have upgraded the onboard sound cards built into the mother boards.
What is your experience with onboard sound cards?
Is there something in particular I should look for in a motherboard?
Thanks for your input.
Blessings,
Tom

Re: [JAWS-Users] how to return to your last spot in a list of documents in MS word

2007-11-01 Thread First Christian Reformed Church
Another way to do it is to open documetns from Windows Explorer.
When you use enter to open the file it will open in Word.
If it is not the one you want, you Alt Tab back to Windows Explorer where
the highlight is still on the last file you opened

Re: [JAWS-Users] wireless earphone/headset

2007-10-16 Thread First Christian Reformed Church
I am using a Bluetooth headset and audio adapter with the Pac Mate, but
it would surely work with a desktop too.
I'm using the Jabra brand, but I expect others would work as well.
The Bluetooth audio adapter plugs into the audio out port and then pairs
with the headset.

[JAWS-Users] RE Install problem

2007-09-26 Thread First Christian Reformed Church
Freedom Scientific has told me in the past to uninstall the previous
version of JAWS before putting a new version on my computer.
This does not affect authorization because that is stored in a different
place. If you have authorized a previous version, the new one will be
authorized without having to connect to Freedom Scientific.
Settings such as speech rate and dictionary changes will need to be reset
once the new version is installed

[JAWS-Users] RE switching columns in word

2007-09-08 Thread First Christian Reformed Church
There is a command for this, which I don't know, so I don't have a direct
answer to your question,
but a different approach.
If you switch to Normal View, under the View menu, you avoid the
necessity of having to switch columns. The word displays your document
as if it is all one column. I think this is easier to work with.
Page Layout displays the columns on screen, which works fine for sighted
persns using a mouse, but there may be other ways to do it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Reading PDF and Adobe 8

2007-08-08 Thread First Christian Reformed Church
If you are saying Adobe 8 doesn't work with JAWS, I have not found that
to be true.
I'm using Adobe 8 and have been reading pdf documents without a problem.
It's a little difficult to sort out on the website to download Adobe 8.
But once you have in downloaded and go through the installation it will
offer you options to check that make it work with screen readers. In
fact, when I installed it, Adobe recognized that I was using a screen
reader.
Each time I open a document in Adobe it goes through a process of
preparing the document for reading.
Blessings,
Tom

[JAWS-Users] Re JAWS and Vista

2007-08-02 Thread First Christian Reformed Church
I'm new to Vista but find that JAWS is working reasonably well.
You must download version 8.0127 in orer to make it work.
There are some new things about Vista, but many of the keyboard commands
are the same, such as
Windows +M closes applications and brings you to the desktop
Windows +E opens Windows Explorer
I'm using Vista and JAWS on a laptop too and it's working quite well so
far.

Tom

[JAWS-Users] A source for Bibles and other religious stuff for the blind

2007-07-10 Thread First Christian Reformed Church
Friends,
My son and I have formed Optasia Ministry to provide free religious
materials for blind computer users.
It all started when I was looking for an NIV Bible that would run on my
Freedom Scientific Pac Mate, and couldn't find a vendor who could promise
me it would work. So my son created one, and it also workds well with
JAWS on the desk top.
We can provide you with a free NIV Bible and lots of other stuff.
Check out our website www.optasiaministry.org for more information.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS and laptops

2007-07-06 Thread First Christian Reformed Church
In the past I've had issues with inadequate onboard sound cards in my

Is that a problem with laptops where sound cards are always onboard, or
are current laptops able to handle what JAWS throws at it?
