I will publicly state why I am refusing to use JAWS. It is Freedom Scientific's attitude towards pricing and their license schemes. Some of us can't or won't afford to buy JAWS, especially if the free one is just as good as JAWS. As for the license scheme, the user is punished to license JAWS on up to three machines. With the free and even other commercial screen readers one can install on as many computers as they have so long as one machine is used at a time, no questions asked. With JAWS, once all three authorizations have been used they would then have to request FS for more keys. Eventually and I will say eventually they will refuse flat and get paranoid about people sharing authorization keys. I understand piracy and all that and I certainly don't commit to any of that stuff however at the same time FS is just asking for money and not caring about the customer. True there is a dongle option, but even they can have their fair share of problems. Now for the technical, I do find the free one to be actually more stable and even works with more applications than JAWS. Right Erick thanks for explaining Chat soon hannahAr -- Hannah Day E-mail: hannahday2...@googlemail.com MSN: hannahday1...@hotmail.co.uk Skype: hannahday -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Eric Damery Sent: 05 December 2009 18:55 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Major problem with Tandem Centre The way it works, is that whoever is the Controller (Get Access to a Computer), must be a properly authorized license and you must be using a version that is as high or higher than the version of JAWS being used on the Target machine (Allow Access to my Computer). So if you are using version 10, you could not be the Controller in a Tandem session with a user who is running JAWS 11. The Target user can be using a proper license or in this case, could also be running in 40 Minute Demo mode. The Tandem session will expire when the 40 minutes expires of course. The Controller machine may not be a 40 Minute Demo. In the case described as a major problem by the user on the list, there is something else going on which we will be happy to discuss with him when he contacts us. There really is not a problem at all. You should be able to locate it now if you use Check for Updates. Here is what it includes: Enhancements in JAWS 11.0.746 (November 2009) The following is a list of items addressed or added between the final JAWS 11.0.734 release and the JAWS 11.0.746 posting. All enhancements since the initial public beta release are included in this release. * This release resolves an issue with new Windows 7 installations where JAWS would request that you install the mirror driver after using applications such as iTunes 9.0.2 or Roxio Creator 2010. This has now been resolved for JAWS 11. If you experience this issue with JAWS 10 or MAGic 11 with Windows 7, download the 64- or 32-bit Video Intercept http://www.freedomscientific.com/downloads/jaws/JAWS-whats-new.asp#Vide oIntercept as described earlier on this page. The following lookup sources have been added to the JAWS Research It feature. Remember that you can quickly access lookup sources using the INSERT+SPACEBAR, R keystroke. * Amazon Product Search: Displays search results from Amazon.com(r) for the word or item entered in the edit field. Results appear as links followed by price and shipping information. * Bookshare(tm) Book Search: Displays search results from Bookshare.org based on an author's name, a book's ISBN number, or words found in a book title or book description. If a match is found, the result appears as a link containing the author, title, and copyright date. * Health Search on WebMD: Provides search results from the Web site WebMD(r) for the words entered in the lookup edit field or located at the current cursor position in a document or Web page. If a match is found, results appear as links followed by a brief synopsis. * Stock Quotes: Displays current and up to 52-week historical financial information for the stock symbol entered in the edit field or selected from a document, spreadsheet, or Web page. * Time Search: Displays the current time and time zone for any location typed into the edit field. Note: Be specific when entering a location since one name may represent multiple cities. For example, if you only type London into the edit field, you will receive time results for London, England, U.K., London, Ontario, Canada, and London, Arkansas, U.S.A. * UPS Tracking: Returns progress and delivery status information for a valid UPS(tm) tracking number. * People Search: Allows you to search for individuals using their first and last name, street name (optional), and location. Use semicolons to separate search terms, for example, John Smith; Main Street; St. Petersburg, Florida. Always use a comma to separate the city and state or province location. Note: Currently, the results that appear in the Virtual Viewer are limited to the first 10 items provided by the Web site 411.com. This site only displays 10 items per page. If the individual does not appear in your initial search results, try refining your search input by including a street name. If you're not sure you need it, you can just verify the version of JAWS you have installed now in the about box, from the Help menu also. The current relase with the security update included, is 11.0.734 which is also the only version available on the Download page now. So, if you install from the web today for the first time, you are all set. Also, I wanted to let you all know that the DVD that is going to be shipping has been delayed a few days to make certain it contains this newer build which contains the Security update. The SMA shipments will start to go out by Thursday, October 29 once they clear our testing lab and complete the production process. So anyone who is installing from the DVD on 32 bit or 64 bit Windows should continue to check for updates as always, but I wanted to be clear that the security update is already included on your DVD. Good evening all I'm e-mailing to let you know i've found my conclution to my earlier poasting regarding my problems with jaws. I firstly uninstalled and reinstalled jaws. then it seemed to be ok. Re: [JAWS-Users] AVG
hi i agree with you there. i have used it for a quite a long time now and i can't arise any difficulty with it At 02:48 PM 21/12/2007, you wrote: I think avg is very accessable for Jaws. and it is very user friendly. I think the free version is enough for the Computer user who just use it to surf the inter or checking e-mail. thisw is my thought. --- Mark Finnigan [EMAIL PROTECTED] »¡¡G Dear all. I have seen messages about AVG from time to time on this list. I have used Norton since 2003, and am now on Norton 360. I have been told by a number of people that Norton slows down a PC and is not necessarily the best, although it is the one most computer shops in this country seem to push. I have looked at AVG's site, and see that there is a free version and one for which you have to pay. The free version seems to do one thing at a time, whereas the paid version seems to include anti virus, anti spyware, anti spam and a firewall. What I would like to know is whether the free version is adequate, or is the paid version the one to go for. It is reasonably priced, so that is not a problem. I have never used the program before, and I would appreciate knowing how well it works with JAWS. The articles on the Tips and Tricks page seem to deal with just the anti spyware aspect, or how to schedule a scan. I would be grateful for any other information. Thanks.
