This may have some relevance. The other day I discovered that the
insert+shift+s would not work on a sheet that was not maximized. Once I
maximized, the command worked.

Hello,
I am having problems getting it to work in JAWS13. This is
what I have found. If your worksheets have all been named
something else besides sheet 1 etc... insert plus shift plus
s brings up the system menu, just as if you pressed alt plus
space. However if you have at least one sheet with the
default name, sheet 1, the insert plus shift plus s works as
expected. As an example, I have a workbook I created with
three sheets. the sheets are named binomial, geometric, and
poisson. If I hit the insert plus shift plus s it just
brings up the system menu.
However, if I add a sheet to it and then use the command, it
works just fine. I am using JAWS13 and Excel 2010.
Thanks,
Greg W.

For some reason insert plus shift plus s brings up the
system menu in

2010 using JAWS13. It will not bring up that menu you

I have noticed that a lot of Office commands don't work

Thats the way Don mentioned how to do it in his post.

[JAWS-Users] Don't Install Rapport

2011-05-29 Thread Jerry Berrier
Bank of America has just come out with a new program called Rapport that is
supposed to supplement antivirus software in protecting online
communications. I am running XP, IE 8, and Jaws 12, latest update. I
installed Rapport, and it protected me by making Internet Explorer 8.0
totally unusable. No links on any page I went to. I tried using the
Rapport console to shut down; no luck. Unable to shut it down, and unable
to uninstall it from the control panel. When I tried uninstalling, a web
page came up which I browsed with the Jaws cursor. I clicked on Chat with a
representative, and it said sorry, nobody is available.

I ended up having to do a system restore to get rid of it.

I'll be curious to know if others have success with this program.

Yes, I've already sent a message to Bank of America.

Hi jerry,

This may be because every new line - a hard line break, when the enter
key is pressed - is treated as a paragraph break, thus making a new one
begin in cell two or cell three (to conform with the correct brailling
rules), in Notepad and in Perky Duck. If you have the full forty cells
filled in one line, then isn't it likely that there will be a single
space left in cell one of the next braille line to mark the word
separation, which might be important if you have the display refreshing
automatically? (I can't speak to perky duck, not having it.) the
paragraph setting in Outlook and word may be set to two line-spaces
rather than just one. if reading a print line in Notepad of more than
40 characters that wraps, I believe the remainder of the print line will
start over on cell one of the next braille (as it will happen, shorter)
line. the braille line beginning in cell two or three may be quite
correct for beginning a new paragraph in braille. I do have Duxbury
braille Translator, and I know that there are settings available there
to enable beginning a parargraph on cell one.

Michael,

I've done basically the same thing, and I thought at first the problem was
solved. I can access the AVG interface and read the status information. I
can go into some of the menus successfully, but it sometimes still crashes.
It crashed when I tried to change firewall settings, and, while typing this
message I stopped and went to the AVG interface, brought up the components
menu, arrowed down to E-mail scanner, opened it successfully, then changed
nothing but went to Save Settings and hit the spacebar. Bang, it crashed
again. I wonder if yours will do the same thing.

update probably did not complete propperly. He instructed me to save the
file to the desktop and then run it and go to repair instalation. We got
confirmation that my update had not downloaded propperly when I was unable
to proceed with the install wizard because another version of JAWS was
already installed. The man directed me to uninstall JAWS and install JAWS
9.0.2169. I no longer have problems with JAWS and AVG.

One thing to note is that regardless of whether you are able to repair the
existing instalation of JAWS or you have to reinstall like I did, you must
remove/overwrite all existing user settings.

I hope this helps someone,
Michael

[JAWS-Users] New JFW Update with AVG 8; still Having Problems

2008-05-25 Thread Jerry Berrier
Hi all,

I've updated JFW to the latest version that just came out. I'm using AVG
Internet Security version 8. I can now get to the AVG interface and check
my settings, but the AVG interface still crashed when I changed e-mail
scanner settings or firewall settings.

I wonder if I have to re-install AVG now that I've updated JAWS.

I don't believe that there are any scripts for the latest version.
Which, by the way seems to be quite accessible out of the box.

Hi, I thought the ability to have it in the system tray, as well as
define a hot key, was always there? It was when I last used it, which
was something like version 4 or even earlier.

 At 21:25 30/12/2007, you wrote:
AS Flor already pointed out, Word Web dictionary does have a very good
Jaws
interface, and even better interface when used with the Jaws scripts
available through the Jaws Users site, or the JFW Lite site.

The newest version of the Word Web dictionary even has the ability to
 reside
in your system tray for easy access, and allows for a user defined hotkey
 to
bring it up automatically.

It will even work in conjunction with other word processors for quick and
easy access.

The great thing is that if you highlight a word, then use the hotkey,
which
is control+alt+W, which is the default for accessing the dictionary, the
word will automatically appear in the edit field to look up the word.

There are a few tabs when the word is defined, such as a synonyms tab,
 along
with an antonyms tab/section in case you want to use the thesaurus part of
the program

The other great thing about this program is the fact that it's free.

Can't argue with that price. Smile.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Downloading Music Files

 Hi David,

I think it should be noted that there are many free music sites that
actually encourage the downloading of music from their artists that are
 featured on their sites.

This is done mostly to get bands out there using this rather new marketing
ploy, and to offer a band or musician the ability to get noticed and offer

 a
platform where agents or music professionals can sample new material for
 sign-ups.

Having said that, there are services that one can pay for music downloads,
such as napster and ITunes, where people pay for the music they download.

I understand that this may not be exactly what that person was looking
 for,
but there are legitimate outfits out there that actually encourage the
downloading of music available from their sites.

Just thought people would like to know that.

 Victor

Re: [JAWS-Users] Norton Ghost

2007-11-26 Thread Jerry Berrier
I use ghost 12.0 with JAWS, and it works very well.
It's a great program and relatively accessible. I have not had to seek
sighted assistance with it for anything. However, I have not yet done a
restore. I think that will require sighted help. I can create and schedule
backups, look at and restore individual files or folders from a backup. I
also created a recovery disk without help, and that went fine.
I'm not sure about some of its more advanced features, but the basics work
fine with JAWS.
Sorry I can't say the same for other Symantec products.

Good Morning All,

Does anyone know if Norton Ghost 12.0 Software is compatible with Jaws?
This software is a tool for backing up info on your computer's internal hard
drive to an external hard drive. I heard from several people it's does a
great job and can be set up to automatically update info. It normally
retails for $69.95 but today Buy.com lowered it to $50 and are offering a
$50 rebate so the software is FREE! Shipping is free but you would probably
have to pay Cal. sales tax on the $50. Their number is 1-800-800-0800 and
the SKU# is 11866268. Let's see if this is Jaws compatible.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Recording Software

2007-11-22 Thread Jerry Berrier
An attenuator cord can look just like a regular patch cord, but it has a
component in it that decreases the level of the signal that is transmitted
through it. It's used when the device you're sending the signal to needs a
lower level than is being output by the other device.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 8 and Vista

2007-09-11 Thread Jerry Berrier
Ah, okay. I just didn't understand the meaning of dump. I was thinking of
something like a screen dump.

To dump JAWS, press windows insert F4. Hope that helps.

 What's the Jaws dump command?
I'm considering buying a new computer, and I'm wondering what the
 advantages
are of Vista over xp, other than maybe better security.

The latest version is, 8.0.2173 .
I can't tell you anything about installing Vista since the machine I use
 Vista on came that way.
I can tell you that Jaws works well with Vista though. The only problem I
have had is with Office 2007 causing Jaws to lock up sometimes. But the
Jaws dump command seems to fix that.
The only drawback to Vista are the drivers for some of my peripheral
 products.
But for the most part, I am beginning to like Vista, it's just a whole new
 learning process.

 Hello Listers:

I am one of those who joined the list after reading Dean Martineau's
newsletter last week and I like what I have read so far.

At present I am using JAWS 7.500 and on inquiring about how Vista works
 from
a number of sources I am getting mixed signals, e.g., leave it alone for a
while as there are a number of bugs which need to be fixed. Another
 comment
I got was that when installing Vista sometimes the installation is aborted
and the process needs to be restarted.

The latest version of JAWS is 8.0.2317 (or is it 71? and as your list
appears to have quite a number of experts, please let me have the benefit
 of
 your advice and comments.

Another thing: I hear that JAWS 9 is due some time this month. Anyway, I
look forward to hearing from you all.
