[JAWS-Users] excel 2007

2011-11-28 Thread John W. Carty
I'm using jaws 13 and excel 2007.

The key strokes insert-ctrl-alt-c & insert-ctrl-alt-r set column and row titles
on.

Once done navigating the spreadsheet with the arrow keys announce the column or
row you're in.

My question is:

Once these settings are turned on how do I turn them off?

Thanx,

All,

JAWS version 13.0.527 is now available via the Automatic Update feature.
If you currently have the build 303 installed, shutting down JAWS and
restarting it should find the notification that the update is available.

The list of changes is below.

Eric

the number was proceeded by a quote and a comma.
* If the Results Viewer and Virtual Viewer are open at the same
time, resolved an issue where pressing ESC would close both viewers.
* Addressed an issue where JAWS was not playing a sound to
identify checked items in some dialog boxes even if the current speech
and sounds scheme was configured to do so.
* Resolved an issue turning off the "read only" announcement in a
speech and sounds scheme.
* If you are using a braille display, JAWS no longer goes into
Line Mode when renaming a file or folder.

[JAWS-Users] jaws and excel

2011-07-20 Thread John W. Carty
I'm using the latest build of jaws 12 and excel 2007.

Jaws refuses to announce the "=" sing within a cell formula no matter where I
set the punctuation setting including "all"

What must I do?

[JAWS-Users] update

2011-07-01 Thread John W. Carty
I just installed jaws 12.0.1167 and now I'm having several problems.

First, with an open browser session I can alt-tab away to another open app and
alt-tab back and jaws will fail to load browse mode unless I press insert-esc
to refresh.

Second, when I open excel no excel settings are loaded. Pressing insert-q
announces default settings are loaded.

I cannot navigate excel and only hear numbers in sequence such as 1, 2, 3, etc
as I arrow up and down.

Can anyone direct me toward a solution?

Thanx,

John

I'm using jaws 12 on two different machines. One machine has outlook 2007 and
the other is using outlook 2010.

I know the key strokes are different for each version but how do I view email
in the browser?

I need to know the keystrokes for each version of outlook.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws, colors and spreadsheets

2010-12-21 Thread John W. Carty
Stephan,

You may solve your problem with insert-alt-s which brings up a menu of schemes
to choose from. You might want to select colors. Experiment.

All:

I often have to work with and analyze spreadsheets where different colors are
used to categorize data. While it's certainly possible to identify colors in
an individual cell, the process is slow, cumbersome and tedious. So, is
there a way to have JAWS automatically speak colors while you're arrowing
through a spreadsheet or other document? Hopefully, JAWS would use a voice
that's different from the normal reading voice to do this.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

[JAWS-Users] question

2010-11-08 Thread John W. Carty
I'm using win7-64bit ult, jaws 12 64-bit and word 2010.

I've got an assignment where I must read thru a word document and highlight
specific words as if I was using a highlight pen.

I can achieve this by going into the menu home, font, highlight, then select my
desired color. Then as I read thru the document I can use ctrl-shift-right
arrow to select the word or words to be highlighted then I can press ctrl-alt-h
to highlight it.

Using the tools listed above this works properly.

This is my question.

Once I get the proper words highlighted:

How can I get jaws to identify the highlighted words as I read thru the
document?

I'm not referring to insert-5 which reads the highlight color once I've
positioned the cursor.

I need to have jaws identify the words during regularly reading.

Thanx,

John

[JAWS-Users] visual studio

2010-10-29 Thread John W. Carty
I've been a long time 3270 programmer mostly cobol/cics. Now my employer is
moving me to microsoft visual studio where I'm suppose to learn visual basic
and sequel server.

I'm using jaws 12.

My shop is currently using visual studio 2008 but we'll be moving to 2010 at
some point in the future.

What version of visual studio works best with jaws?

Are there specific scripts I need to load?

If so, where can I get these scripts?

Are there any specific setup I need for visual studio?

This is pretty urgent since I'm suppose to be assigned a new project in a
couple of weeks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 12 rocks!

2010-10-22 Thread John W. Carty
I've been a long time jaws user and 3270 programmer. I've frequently had these
issues with numerous versions of jaws dating back many years. The best solution
I developed this was to experiment with different fonts to find the least
effected choice, then I wrote jaws scripts that controlled all effected
navigation keystrokes and placed pauses in the scripts to allow jaws to speak
properly.

This is just an idea so I hope the concept helps.

I wish I could say the same.
But I still have the annoying issues when using the Console (Cygwin) and
ssh into my Linux servers.
JAWS fails to read the Console properly.
This has been an issue since JAWS 11.

This makes it harder for me to do my job since I spend most of my time
in the Console.

JAWS is not reading the correct character when using the left/right arrows.
Most of the time JAWS speaks the previous character and some times skips
the character where the cursor is located.
Same goes for moving by lines.
I use the up/down arrows but JAWS is reading the previous line and also
skips some lines entirely.

Hello all. This question is probably better asked in the Blind-Computing
list, but, my emails don't seem to be getting through there.

For those who are currently running Windows7, what email client are you
using. I'm planning to upgrade soon, so, I might as well get use to using
something
other than Outlook Express and/or Windows Mail.

I sincerely hope the answer is not Windows Live Mail.
