Having compared the Vocalizer voices to Voiceware, Google TTS and the latest Microsoft voices, none are as clear and crisp as Vocalizer. After some thought, I decided to switch my primary synthesiser back to Eloquence. I must say, that JAWS is now acting a lot more like the robust and response screen-reader I would expect on such a relatively fast machine. I spent the past year listening to a nice, mannered, human-sounding voice, but wondering why the devil my computer was being just as slow and clunky at times as my XP machine was. Well, now I have the answer. Duh. These Vocalizer voices are resource-intensive and slow the machine down. Anybody else noticed this? I guess it's a foregone conclusion, but I just assumed my machine would be able to handle it well. I think it'd be ok for reading, but for all practical purposes, well, the trade in favour of performance is an obvious no-brainer. So, what synths does everyone use here, anyway? What are your thoughts on all the software synths out there nowadays? Curiosity question. Also, Eloquence - y'know, it's kind of good to have the old man back. I had successfully upgraded my Windows 10 Home computer a few months ago to Windows 10 1709 without the Windows Update Assistant. So when I tried running the Windows Update Assistant several times, I received the message that it had failed because of a program not being compatible with Windows 10. The incompatible program was Magic and that I needed to manually uninstall it. The only program I could think of is the Freedom Scientific screen magnification program named Magic. I had installed Magic version 12 3 or so years ago, when this computer was running Windows 7, to see how to set it up for a friend of mine. I know that Magic version 12 is incompatible with Windows 10. So I uninstalled it and was later successful in installing Windows 10 and then upgrading to Windows 10 1703. I had written to Freedom Scientific about this, but did not receive any reply other than the automated message saying my email had been received. So last week, I tried running the Windows10 Update Assistant after uninstalling JAWS 18 and JAWS2018and shared components. I did not receive any messages about incompatible programs. But since the Windows 10 Update Assistant runs for hours, I saw that it had reached 99% completed when I went to bed. But in the morning I discovered that the computer had rebooted and the Windows Update Assistant was gone. I'm trying to run it again today. So is there any other way to get and install Windows 10 1709 or steps to make the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant run successfully? Thank you in advance. I will greatly appreciate any help on this matter. But the auto complete isn't so basically, I suppose there's still something corrupted. The Microsoft person told me that he'd emptied auto complete, and that if I write the first few letters and press control K, I'd get a list of relevant addresses from which I could choose. I tried that just now with my daughter's address and the list the control K brought up was completely irrelevant. And I still have to paste in the correct address for the DB Review list. David helped me upgrade to Jaws 2018 and we got rid of the to Miriam folder,so I think that auto complete is just not going to happen, except for the blind democracy list for some unknown reason. Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows 10 Log-in Without Password
How To Automatically Login In Windows 10 Want to quickly boot to your Windows 10 desktop by skipping the login screen? Would you like to avoid typing your account password each time you turn on your PC? You can configure Windows 10 to automatically boot to the desktop or Start screen. The core benefit of configuring Windows 10 to automatically sign-in is you don’t need to remember the password, which also means that you save a couple of seconds during the boot. This, in turn, means that Windows 10 boots to the Start screen or desktop a couple of seconds faster. The procedure to set up automatic logon in Windows 10 is very similar to the one in Windows 7 and Windows 8. This method is applicable to both local user account and Microsoft account. In other words, whether you’re using a Microsoft account or local user account, you can use this guide to enable automatic logon. WARNING: Enable automatic logon only if you are the sole user of your computer. If you often share your computer with others, others will be able to peek into your account without knowing the password. You can follow one of the methods given below to turn on automatic login in Windows 10. Method 1 of 2 Automatically logon without password This is the easiest way to automatically login to Windows 10 without entering the password. Step 1: First step is to open Run command box by simultaneously pressing Windows logo and R keys (Windows+R). In the Run dialog box, type Netplwiz and then press Enter key. Step 2: In the resulting User Accounts dialog, select your user account first and then uncheck the option labelled Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer. Click Apply button to see Automatically sign in box. Step 3: In the Automatically sign in dialog, type your password and then re-enter the password to confirm the same. Finally, click OK button. Method 2 of 2 Turn on automatic sign-in using Registry If, for some reason, you’re not able to configure Windows 10 to automatically logon by following the above method, please use this method. Step 1: Open Registry Editor. To do so, type Regedit in the Start menu search box or Run command box and then press Enter key. Click Yes button when you see the UAC (User Account Control) box. Step 2: In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Step 3: On the right-side, look for the entry named DefaultUserName, double-click on it and make sure that your Microsoft account or local user account name is appearing under Value data box. Step 4: Next, on the right-side again, look for the entry named DefaultPassword. If the entry doesn’t exist, please create one by right-clicking on the empty space, clicking New and then clicking String Value. Rename it to DefaultPassword and enter your password in the Value data box. Click OK button. Step 5: Finally, you need to enable automatic logon. To do so, on the right-side (once again), look for the entry labelled AutoAdminLogon and then change its value from 0 (zero) to 1 (one). That’s it! Restart your PC to see your Windows 10 automatically logging into your account without asking you to enter the password. Good luck! Without a doubt, the second method is not as easy as the first one. However, I usually find that by the time the CD arrives, VFO has already released an update, and I rely on those updates to fix problems. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws still disappearing
I have the following problem with jaws. When using the jaws say all command (insert+down arrow) when reading a webpage or html document, my tripletalk stopps speaking after a few seconds. Here's what Mike from Access Solutions said about it. hi russ, yesterday i decided to test the synth in jaws 17.0219x? and there was no problem with the say all command and no problem with holding the parameters such as pitch etc. but in jaws 18 some how freedom broke it. so that kind of proves what i have said that the problem is freedoms side. was going to see about rewriting the speech drivers but when i asked for the software development kid it was from 2012 and these drivers are younger than that. from what i know freedom is awhere of the problem and is looking into it. so whose knows there is suppose to be a update this month so maybe they will have it fixed. lets hope so anyway. c u m -Original Message- From: Vicky Vaughan Sent: Monday, July 17, 2017 8:33 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws still disappearing Hi Miriam, Yes, I have the same problem with Jaws going silent for no known reason. I wish I had something helpful to offer, but, like you, shutting down has been the only way I've been able to get Jaws back. It's nice to know that I'm not alone in this! Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with original tripletalk usb with jaws
Yes, the say all command does work with a software synthesizer. This is why I think it's a tripletalk issue. Does jaws keep any kind of log file I can look at to see what is going on? -Original Message- From: Adrian Spratt Sent: Thursday, June 1, 2017 9:00 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with original tripletalk usb with jaws I also have an external synthesizer, Dectalk Express, and I doubt Narrator could help me solve the problem if it's with the synth. Do you think it's worth trying "say all" with the internal synthesizer, Eloquence, which I think is loaded by default. You could find it quickly by pressing JAWS key+control+s and down-arrowing through the choices. If you post again, you might indicate if you've updated anything recently, such as JAWS. Also, have you unloaded and reloaded JAWS and/or rebooted in case either of those operations can fix the problem? -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Russ Kiehne Sent: Thursday, June 01, 2017 9:54 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Problem with original tripletalk usb with jaws I have the original tripletalk usb.
