I fixed the issue. I had to remove the non tandom version of jaws and
install the tandom version. All is working as it should.

No, you should to uninstall the non-Tandem build before installing the
normal one. However, to accelerate installation process and keep your
current settings, choose to uninstall JAWS only and, when prompted if you
want to remove user files for your account, answer No.

I think it could be for one or more of the following reasons:
- You have JAWS installed in a language where Check for Updates feature
is not available. As far as I know, the only languages besides English in
which this feature is available are Dutch, French, French Canadian,
German
and Spanish; I don't remember if Brazilian Portuguese too.
- You specified a special update code or Registry key to disable
checking for updates.
- You are using an English non-Tandem build.
- You are running JAWS as a portable copy.
