no link on every web he visits.

I logged in and checked and also checked his Outlook Express and Jaws can
see the links in emails but not in IE.

I uninstalled IE8 and rolled back to IE7 to see if this was the problem and
 it was the same.

Just to check I used my pc to go to the same site he was having problems
with and Jaws read fine and picked up all the links so on his I tried
another website, it was at this point I found out that it was all websites
were showing no links even though you can see there is.

Has anyone any idea why and what settings he could have changed?

I have to say though if he is on the computer he might leave the pc and his
kids will go to the keyboard and press any keys thinking it's a bit of fun

I am running Windows XP Pro and Office 2007. I have an issue with
outlook, in that it crashes periodically, and when it does, it takes
speech with it. This behavior is screen reader independent. The
computer itself has not crashed, just Outlook and speech. Now, if you
can get speech back, you can interact with the Outlook error reporting
dialogue, and close and restart Outlook. The normal command, i. e.
INSERT-F4 does not work in this situation. Now, Window Eyes has a Kill
script that allows you to use a hotkey that will unload Window Eyes from
memory, and then you can use your normal hotkey, usually CONTROL-ALT-W,
to start WE again. Does JAWS have a similar key sequence that will
unload it from memory when INSERT-F4 does not work?

A cool discovery in my opinion regarding the latest jaws v11 update. The key
 stroke for silencing
speech is jaws key spacebar s. Nice feature. But prior to this release you
 could temporarily mute
speech with a designated keystroke. Of course once you leave that area
 speech would return. However,
I kept my temporary mute jaws keystroke (caps lock backspace) but now it
 will silence speech and
keep it silent in any app until I turn speech back on. I think I like my key
 combo better. (smile)

Hello Sarah,

Unfortunately, I didn't get your latest post until this morning, which
according to your first post is past the deadline for your entry. I hope
you were able to get an extension of time for your submittal.

There is a program called Winff that is (w I n f f), which can convert MP4
files to WMV files. If you want me to send you a link to where you can
download it then write me off list and let me know. It is quite easy to use
the program. When the program is opened you can tab to an add button that
can be used to add the files you want converted. You can then use tab key
until you hear the path for the file being converted and the destination
path for the new file. After doing so, you can tab until you get to a combo
box for picking a type of file. If you use down arrow in that box you will
find the choice for Microsoft. Use tab again and you will find a combo box
from which you can pick WMV for the web or WMV generic as the output type.
Use tab until you get to the convert button and press spacebar on that
button to start the conversion. Wait for the conversion to stop and there
will be a message when you read the current line that tells you to press any
key to exit. You can then add the WMV files in Windows Movie Maker.

Let me know if you need me to send a link to where you can download Winff.

Take care.

Hello Sarah,

One thing you can do is use Windows Movie Maker. It should be in the all
programs group. If you have Windows 7 then you will need to download it
from the Microsoft web site. When you open Windows Movie Maker use CTRL+I
to bring up the import option and locate the files to import. Each time you
import a clip using the import wizard, the clip will be added to the end of
the clips list. You can then use tab key to move to the list of clips,
select them with CTRL+A and then put them on the story board with CTRL+D.
If all you want to do is make one movie from the three added to the story
board then just go under file menu and use the publish choice. You will be
asked to give the file a name. You will also get choices for publishing to
your computer, to a CD, to be sent by Email, or (I think starting in Vista)
to publish to a DVD. If you choose to publish to your computer a .WMV file
will be created. In the last step of publishing before using the finished
button there is a checkbox that asks if you want to play the movie when you
click finish. If you don't want to then use spacebar on the checkbox to
remove the checkmark. During the publishing process you can also choose
where to save the movie. In Vista the movie by default saves to the videos
folder. In XP the default is likely the my videos folder.

Take care.

Hello Folks,
sometimes there are pull down lists (whatever they are called by an english
version of jaws) (oh wait hang on for a sec...) They are called combo box!
These combo boxes change the content of the web site just by moving the
focus up and down. Once they cursor has changed once the web site changes
and this makes it impossible to view the available choices. I think these
combo boxes lack a submit button and are javascript based.
Is there a work arround that makes it possible to view the available choices
and pick one later on.
An example is found here:
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/productmodel.do?group=72type=61;
subtype=63model_cd=469tab=feappmi=1155

Just press f for form fields twice.

Thanks for advice.

Hi,

I copied the following section from the Help Centre of Dropbox:

How do I share folders with other people?
Dropbox lets you share your folders with others by creating a new
shared folder or sharing an existing one. Once you add other members
to the folder, it will appear in your friends or colleagues own
Dropbox just as it does in yours. Any changes made to the shared
folder's contents will appear instantaneously to everyone who is a
member of the folder.

Create a New Shared Folder
To create a new shared folder, click on the Create a new shared folder
button from the Sharing tab of your Dropbox account.

Share an Existing Folder
To share an existing folder, the folder has to be in your Dropbox
folder. You can create a folder in your Dropbox folder just as you
would anywhere else on your hard drive.

** Using the Dropbox desktop application on Windows XP
Open your Dropbox folder
Right-click on the folder you want to share. This displays a drop-down menu
Select Dropbox Share this folder... This will send you to the
sharing page on the Dropbox website

Select Share this folder... from the contextual menu
Enter the email addresses of those who want to share the folder
Add a personal message if you'd like and click Share folder
Add a personal message if you'd like and click Share folder

** Using the Dropbox desktop application on Windows Vista and Windows 7
Open your Dropbox folder
Right-click on the folder you want to share. This displays a drop-down menu
Select Dropbox Share this folder... This will send you to the
sharing page on the Dropbox website

Select Share this folder... from the contextual menu
Enter the email addresses of those who want to share the folder
Add a personal message if you'd like and click Share folder.

** Using the Dropbox website
Log in to your account and locate the folder you want to share
Move your mouse over the folder. Click on the triangle that appears
when the folder is highlighted.
Choose Share this folder from the drop-down menu

Select Share this folder... from the website drop-down menu
Enter the email addresses of those who want to share the folder
Add a personal message if you'd like and click Share folder
When you share a folder in one of the ways described above, we will
immediately send email invitations to the addresses you provided.
These invitations tell the recipients that you've shared a folder with
them and gives them a link to accept your invite.

Once they accept your invitation, the folder will appear in their
Dropbox account.

  Hope it helps.

Siew Ling

using notepad, as well as akel pad, and have the same problem with both.
Now, when I try to open the documents in Microsoft word it is like there is

Hello everyone,
I am interested in purchasing carbonite.com to back up all of my files. I
went online and read about it, and one thing I wasn't sure of was this, I
have all of my music and videos on an external drive, will I be able to back
that up with carbonite? Also, does it work well with jaws?
Will I need to
purchase an account for each of my computers? Thanks for any help.

Hi all:

Is there a way to have two Jaws Keys? In other words, there is the standard
numpad 0 key as the main Jaws key. I would also like to assign the caps
lock key as a alternate Jaws key. This would just make some Jaws key
combinations easier to execute. And I never use the caps lock key.

I'm using XP Pro with Jaws 10 on an HP desktop.

Thanks for any help.

If you have two different hot keys assigned to start the same program, the
best way to delete the one you don't want is to run a little utility called
Hot Key Detective, which lists all the hot keys on your computer and allows
you to change or delete them as desired. You can download Hot Key Detective
from the JAWS Users programs page (it's item 30 under the Utilities
heading):

Hello all. This question is probably better asked in the Blind-Computing

For those who are currently running Windows7, what email client are you
using. I'm planning to upgrade soon, so, I might as well get use to using
something other than Outlook Express and/or Windows Mail.

I sincerely hope the answer is not Windows Live Mail.

 Good morning everyone.

I apologize for asking for help from everyone on this list, as I know

anyone please repost the directions on how too clear out the run

no success.
When these instructions were posted too the list before, I thought
that I had put them in to a folder that I had created for this
purpose which I called, helpful hints. I did go too the jaws users

Then tab (you're in another list view) and type m u t until you hear mute

Assign your keystroke as described earlier.

  1. Get into the keyboard manager with JAWSKey+8.

  2. Press ctrl-shift-d to get into the Default keyboard manager.

  3. Now type mu to get to mute synthesizer.

  4. Press ctrl+a to Add a keystroke to this script.

  5. Press your keystroke (which could be, say, ctrl+shift+m).

  6. Tab through and observe the dialogue.

  7. OK your change. Save. Exit.

  8. note that pressing your assigned keystroke once again will unmute
  the synthesizer.

the folders is in use by outlook express or another program. Where can I
locate the log that might let me know what folder is having the problem. I
am at the point that before I compress I must do a full backup. About 40% of

I am using xp home sp3 but the problem has been going on even with sp2. I

Hi,

I asked about this once before and recieved no response so I'm trying again.
About 90 percent of the time when I unload then reload JAWS I get a window
pop up saying, Application File For JAWS. It then asks if I want to send an
error report. I usually hit the don't send button and the window closes and
things seem to work normally. I've run a JAWS repair and performed a
registry clean-up, a defrag and error scan. Is this a JAWS problem or an
operating system issue? I'm using JAWS 6.1 and XP home edition. I'd like
to upgrade my JAWS but don't want to spend a fortune and put it into a sick
machine. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello. I have a friend who is having this problem. She pushes the
questionmark key but it says another punctuation like left double bracket or
something of that nature. I tolk her to have a sighted person take a look to
see if the questionmark is coming out correctly on the screen. If it is,
what could be causing her jaws to do this? She is using jaws 8.

It will usually not report battery status when the computer is plugged in
because of the text that the script looks for. You would have to look at the
script to know why, I just forget but you could probably rewrite or modify
the script to read status when the computer is plugged in.

Hi List,

I'm currently using outlook 2007, jfw10 and windows xp pro.

My question is related to a change in the info JFW is giving since
yesterday. My outlook opens in the unread folder and usually it would give
the respective folder with the number of unread messages. However, what is
happening is that jfw is reporting a message to the effect Whatever folder
number 2unread items. I also used to get the message body by tabbing once,
but that is no longer there any thoughts?

Dale! In the jfc manager for outlook express 5-6, I can't find an actual
settings heading, but alt s takes me to user options. The only thing I can
find to the right of that and there is nothing if I arrow below it is return
to factory settings. Do you think I should risk entering on that?

: Hi Jewel,
:
: I haven't been following this closely so might be a little off.
:
: When you use Insert + S it should cycle through three choices. The three
: are:
:
: None
: highlighted
: all
:
: You stop on highlighted.
:
: Now this won't stick unless you save it in a configuration.
:
: If this is happening in all programmes you want to save it in the Default
: configuration. If it only is happening in Outlook Express then you may
wish
: to save it there.
:
: When you are in Outlook express you open the Configuration Manager with
: Insert + 6. that is the number six on the row of number keys above the
: letters just above and between the T and the Y.
:
: Jaws should say something like:
:
: Jaws configuration Manager
:
: and then the name of the configuration file, in your case probably
something
: like
:
: Outlook Express.jcf.
:
: I am running Vista and Windows Mail and Jaws 9 so it may be just a little
: different I can't remember.
:
: Once that is open go to the Settings menu, the shortcut is ALT + S. Jaws
: should say something like Settings. You can as well press ALT, then arrow
: once to the right.
:
: Now arrow down once to User Settings ... and whack Enter.
:
: Arrow to the right three or four positions until you hear Screen Echo.
: Something will be checked, arrow up or down until Jaws says
:
: Screen Echo Echo highlighted text checked.
:
: Hit escape once highlighted text is checked then press CTRL + S to save
the
: configuration then ALT + F4 to close the configuration manager.
:
: This should fix the problem if it is what we all suspect it to be.
:
: Hope this helps and that I got it explained adequately.
:
: Good luck.

And to top things off, if you have jaws home and you have xp pro jaws home,
or what they call standard won't work. You need to get pro, wich I'm not
happy about but we can't do anything about it.

Good luck.

Jewel,

Version 5.10 of jaws gives much hassles under xp. Get at least version
6 or 7 installed.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Am getting far more information than I want

My computer has been at the computer surgery for over a week. It has been
returned, but my word! aren't I having problems trying to work out just
what is going on. I am waiting for a call from the junior computer doctor
but you know what it is like trying to get the doc to pay a house call these
days.
When the machine left here, it was running XP Home, but returned with XP
Professional in the saddle. My screen reader is JFW5.10.
My major problem is that when I open an email, before it starts to read the
message, Jaws reads the contents of the menu bar: that is:
file--edit--help--forward--reply etc. Something must be turned on, but
being a computer clutz, I haven't the remotest idea what it can be.
Also Jaws keeps saying start and it only seems to read part of the message
if it is over more than a few lines in length.

Don't think there's a way as you need to hit the play button to start the
thing when you first open up said program. I might be wrong about that

2009-04-21 Thread Sarah Alawami
Actually what I do is copy and past just the body of the email with out the
addresses all with out forwarding the thing, then I create a merge in
outlook and it sends the message out. If anybody wants the podcast link I
can give it to you. Let me know. I use jaws 10 and outlook 2003 for this
particular podcast.

Take care.

Do you really know how to forward e-mails?
Most of us DO NOT know how.
Do you wonder why you get viruses or junk mail?
--
Every time you forward an e-mail, there is information left over from the
people who got the message before you -- namely their e-mail addresses
names.
As the messages get forwarded along, the list of addresses builds, and
builds, and builds, and all it takes is for some poor sap to get a virus,
and his or her computer can send that virus to every email address that has
come across his computer.
Or, someone can take all of those addresses and sell them or send junk mail
to them in the hopes that you will go to the site and he will make five
cents for each hit.
That's right, all of that inconvenience over a nickel!
--
How do you stop it?
Well, there are several easy steps:

--
(1) When you forward an e-mail, DELETE all of the other addresses that
appear in the body of the message (at the top).
Highlight them and delete them, backspace them, cut them, whatever you know
how to.
You MUST click the 'Forward' button first and then you will have full
editing capabilities against the body and headers of the message.
If you don't hit the forward button first you won't have full editing
functions.
It is annoying to most people to have to scroll through 200 e-mail addresses
before you get to the email.

--
(2) Whenever you send an e-mail to more than one person, do NOT use the
To: or Cc: fields for adding e-mail addresses..
Always use the BCC: (blind carbon copy) field for listing the e-mail
addresses.
This is the way the people you send to will only see their own e-mail
address.
When you send to BCC: your message will automatically say 'Undisclosed
Recipients' in the 'TO:' field of the people who receive it.
That way you aren't sharing all those addresses with all and sundry.
--
(3) Remove any 'FW:' in the subject line.
You can re-name the subject if you wish or even fix spelling.

--
This one is very important - please read and heed.
(4) ALWAYS hit your Forward button from the actual e-mail you are reading.
By Forwarding from the actual page you wish someone to view, you stop them
from having to open many e-mails just to see what you sent.
These are the ones that often end up having picked up a virus from somebody.
This is really important!

--
(5) Have you ever gotten an email that is a petition?
It states a position and asks you to add your name and address and to
forward it to 10 or 15 people or your entire address book.
The email can be forwarded on and on and can collect thousands of names and
email addresses.
A FACT:
The completed petition is actually worth a couple of bucks to a professional
spammer because of the wealth of valid names and email addresses contained
therein.
If you want to support the petition, send it as a separate message or letter
to the intended recipient.
--
(6) Some of the worst e-mails are the ones that say something like, 'Send
this email to 10 people and you'll see something great run across your
screen.'
Or, sometimes they'll just tease you by saying something really cute will
happen.
IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!
--
(7) Before you forward an Amber Alert, or a Virus Alert, or some of the
other ones floating around nowadays, check them out before you forward them.
Most of them are junk mail that's been circling the net for Years!
Just about everything you receive in an email that is in question can be
checked out at Snopes.
Just go to:
http://www.snopes/http://www.snopes. com/
--
It's really easy to find out if it's real or not.
If it's not, please don't pass it on.
So, please, in the future, let's stop the junk mail and the viruses.

--
Finally, here's an idea!!!
Let's send this to everyone we know (but strip my address off first,
please).

This is something that SHOULD be forwarded.

Hi,

Ouch! Sorry you lost all that, that sucks! No idea how to stop jaws from
saying message deleted, it may be in your verbosity settings though. If you
don't wanna be asked if you're sure you want to delete a group of
conversations, there should be a don't ask me this again or similar check
box in the question dialog.
