Neil,
Well, if I remember:
SMTP is 465

The POP is 995 for outlook express on XP.
That's why you cannot send or receive mail.

I don't knowt, if outlook 2013 will work on XP, but it works great on wind7.

Neil,
It all depends on how much ram she has in her PC,
I believe you need atleast 4 gigs for window 7 pro.
And the home version less ram memory, but then you have space for nothing
else.

I never tried the windows anytime upgrade in the start menu?

Window 7 is not free, unless the PC you bought came with it.

Hi Neil,

I suggest instead doing a reinstall of Outlook Express, which is nice and
simple with JAWS, and if it had been working okay for her, why switch? I
would have her contact the Microsoft disability services office. They can
remote in to her computer and just handle all this. In closing, I suspect
her contacts and data should all still be there, that it is just the
software that is messed up.

Hello Gang:

A friend of mine has been using outlook express, which has become unusable
on her computer. Can neither send nor receive e-mails. Everything else
seems

to be working on her computer. Internet connection is fine, and she uses
Frontier.

Will going to Outlook 2010 solve her problem? Secondly, will she be able
to

import her contacts, and import all of the outlook express e-mails?

Can the Microsoft accessibility Help Desk assist her in that importing
effort?

Neil

Neil,
Well, if I remember:
SMTP is 465

The POP is 995 for outlook express on XP.
That's why you cannot send or receive mail.

I don't knowt, if outlook 2013 will work on XP, but it works great on wind7.

Cannot send or receive. Not sure about the error message and what it says.
I think she has an XP machine.
Hopefully, The MS help desk will help her switch to Outlook or WLM.

Hi Neil,

What happens when she tries to send or receive mail? Does she get an error
message? If so, what is it? Also, what operating system is she running?
To my knowledge, the Microsoft Accessibility people won't help with Outlook
Express since it's not supported / used by Microsoft any more.
Take care.

Thanks for the suggestion. Did not know Outlook Express could be
re-installed.

When I had Outlook Express 2003 and moved to Outlook 2013 those addresses
and folders moved over fine, not sure about the non Microsoft Outlook
Express that is out there now.
Yes, MS Accessibility can and will help with that transition.
