Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS And Google Chrome
Hi Steve, Unlike Firefox, Chrome does not have a built-in option to prevent pages from being refreshed. However, you can prevent JAWS from refreshing the virtual buffer by changing Automatically Page Refresh option which is present when you press JAWS+V from witting Chrome. You can change it permanently or temporarily, as well as for all websites or only the one in which you are. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and google chrome!
As an individual who has tried Google Chrome with JAWS16 and earlier versions, I agree with your org's findings! JAWS16 (and presumably sequent versions) will better cope with the accessibility or lack thereof, of Chrome. But it is, indeed, fast, as compared with IE (and probably Fioefox as well). In response to the original question: I would say that JAWS12 is too early a version of JAWS to work well with Chrome at the present time. Also, the combo box difficulty has been known to occur with beta releases of other browsers and JAWSS, or with any in-present-use browser with older versions of JAWS. I'm not sure that the combo box issue has ever been resolved with Google Chrome; last time I checked - a few months ago, - it wasn't satisfactory with JAWS16 either. Other things, such as Google and weather, were very fast. -Original Message- From: John Justice Sent: Sunday, April 19, 2015 7:21 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and google chrome! Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and google chrome!
Ladies and gentlemen, We ran tests on these browsers at Virtual Vision Technologies. Regrettably, there are some browsers out there which are incredibly fast but they aren't accessible with a screen reader or magnification. Each of these browsers has elements which are unique and keeping them around is an excellent suggestion. However, each person uses an internet browser in his or her own manner. INTERNET EXPLORER: Reliable and fairly consistent in all types of HTML environment. However, Internet Explorer has been targeted for hacking and interference more than any other software of its type. 2. GOOGLE CHROME: Not completely accessible. Due to its incompatibility with screen readers, Google Chrome can be frustrating at times . The spoken search capability is an excellent option once it has been set up with a PC. However, that is a difficult process for anyone except an advanced computer user. Once acquired, Google Chrome can be almost twice as fast as older versions of Explorer but it is affected by Internet traffic and will slow to a crawl in high volume conditions. Google Chrome is still a work in progress and it too has been hacked and abused on many occasions. The opinions expressed here are based on our observations. We tested and timed both browsers using Windows 7 and 8.1 systems. Local internet conditions must be taken into consideration. With the introduction of Windows 10, Internet Explorer will no longer be used by Microsoft. It is being replaced by a new browser called Spartan. Spartan uses technology originally made available through Google Chrome and other lesser known search engines. We anticipate that Spartan will be an entirely new approach to surfing the Internet. As always, early versions of Windows 10 may require additional upgrades to deal with bugs and development issues. Thank you for taking the time to read this. After installing Google Chrome, I found repeated problems with JAWS 15 especially landing on the edit field and was told by JAWS Customer Support that Google Chrome is not compatible with JAWS and I checked again a couple of weeks ago and received the same answer from JAWS SUPPORT. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and google chrome!
GS, Simply put, in the past Google Chrome has been completely inaccessible, so I decided back then to not waste any of my time trying to learn something that didn't work. If it's beginning to work now, I'd need some very compelling reason to switch over from IE or Firefox before investing time to learn something new all over again. Once bitten, twice smitten. Hi all, I removed Google Chrome from desktop, XP, Jaws15. I am still getting google chrome running when I press insert+F10.Every so often I get an annoying message that Google Chrome is not your default browser, would you like to make it the default yes, don't show or whatever the message. I can only hear it with Jaws. I virtualize the window and no text. Anyone know how to get rid of this annoying message? the matter of fact is that jaws doesn't support Google chrome therefore it is wise to remove it do not use until our screen reader supports it nicely.
