Re: [JAWS-Users] Which OS is the best Windows7 or 8?
Honestly and I think you will like this news about windows 7. I have done no less than 6 complete windows 7 reloads and the operating system has such a good driver database I'm having trouble remembering if I have to install any of them manually or not. I really don't think I ever did. There is a program called driver magician which I got a couple of years ago well worth the $30 I paid for it. I must have installed a driver with it on a 7 system, but like I said windows 7 is quite forgiving where drivers are concerned. Hi All, I noticed on the website that there are 2 download options, Release 1 Release 2. Is either 1 of these a preferred option or, does it matter? Thanks much. Take care. There are if memory serves 2 ISO files in that zip archive. You really only need the ISO named mega I believe. It is over 4 GB in size so it would be pretty hard to miss. Simply burn it to a DVD. That DVD will then contain everything you need for installing every possible version of Windows 7. The only item you will have to provide will be the product key for the system you are installing it on. The installer will come up talking if you have a USB sound card plugged in to the system after rebooting it. Most internal cards won't work but since you can pick up a external for less than $15 that should be no problem. The only caveat that crosses my mind is you must be aware of the drive letter the optical drive is using. By default the package is coded to install off of the D: drive. Since none of my systems use that drive for optical media I had to edit the install windows bat file. Simply change the drive letter to reflect where the DVD is located and after saving your changes hit enter on the batch file to start the process. It seems to me, that those of us who have been using Windows computers for some time, find that Windows 7 is more user friendly, while a first time computer user who buys a Windows 8 or 8.1 PC becomes familiar with the interface of that operating system and the in's and out's of how to use it. Although I began using Windows at version 3.1, and probably have used most versions since then, I purchased a new computer with Windows 8.1 on it and installed Windows 8 on my old Windows 7 PC, then upgraded it to 8.1. I have become quite adept at using 8.1, and I like a lot of it. I will say however, that if it weren't for the ability to boot to the desktop and the use of a third party start menu program, I would not like it as well. Also I have now reverted back to windows 7 on my old PC because it seems to run better with that installed on it. So, what I am saying is, I think it all has to do with what one gets used to. You might be able to get part of an install done with a screen reader, but if you want something that is fool proof, you will want to consider making an unattended installation file. Believe me, when done right, it can save you time and work. If done wrong, it will make you pull your hair out. Re: [JAWS-Users] Which OS is the best Windows7 or 8?
I spent last year working with a JAWS student using Win 8 which I personally found most difficult compared to the work I do with people using Windows 7. IMO, windows 8 is broken and is typical of the Microsoft tic toc approach to software releases. The tic version usually work quite well; Win Xp, Win 7. The toc version have historically been challenging; ME, Vista, Win 8. I note that Windows 9 is already generating a lot of chat, hardly weeks after 8.1 is updated. I personally like Windows 7. If you are getting a new computer, it will likely have Windows 8 on it. If you must use Windows 8, you'd be better off with Windows 8.1. From what I've heard, Microsoft isn't releasing fixes for Windows 8 anymore, they are forcing you to update to 8.1 if you want to get updates from them. Interesting, I was under the impression next year. You know I have been wrong before, probably just as soon as I got out of bed this morning. For what it's worth I agree that 7 works the best for my needs. This is only my opinion and does not reflect on anybody else. Re: [JAWS-Users] Which OS is the best Windows7 or 8?
