Re: [JAWS-Users] open book and jaws

2013-02-07 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

I believe that the Settings Center cannot be opened while in OpenBook
because the default OpenBook that comes from Freedom Scientific already has
the setting for sleep and unload. You can open the configuration by
starting it from another application and then changing to the OpenBook
configuration.

Mike,

How about: in the Settings Center, if you press shift-tab from another
program, then in the combo box find the program/application's Settings
Center file that you wish to modify by pressing enter on it, etc. Thus, JAWS
has a Settings Center file for Open Book (whether you have Open Book or
not), and you can modify it in advance, so to speak. (You would open the
Miscellaneous settings and check the checkbox enable sleep and unload
synthesizer.)

 Hi Julie,

What you need to do is start the program you would like to put Jaws to
 sleep
in but, I couldn't open the Settings Center with either the Insert +
 F2
keystroke for the Jaws Manager or the Insert Key + 6, on the number
 row
above the main keyboard with Openbook open. You need to be able to
 get into
the Settings Center with Openbook running in order to put Jaws asleep
 while
running this program. Well, at least this is the only way I know how
 to put
Jaws to sleep when using a particular program. I tried this running
 Jaws
13, Openbook 7.02, XP Pro. Perhaps someone will have another way to
 do
it. As Alan suggested, you might want to give FS tech support a call
 back
to let them fix it! Sorry I couldn't have been of more help.
 Take care.

I use open book7.0 and jaws 13. I called Freedom Scientific because my
 open
book wasn't self voicing and a ibm file had to be deleted and
 replaced. Now
my open book is speaking and jaws is speaking also. How do I keep Jaws
 from
speaking so that only the Open Book self voicing speaks? Thank you. I
 would
appreciate steps since putting Jaws to sleep is in a different
 location in
 Jaws 13 I think.

Julie,

Since the problem seemed to occur following technical assistance with
FS, if I understood your post, I would suggest recontacting them to
finish correcting the issue.

In OpenBook, press JAWSKey+6 to access the JAWS Settings Center for it
and in the edit type sleep. It'll probably be the 2nd of 2 results. If
that's not satisfactory, then from any application press JAWSKey+6 and
then press shift+tab to the applications combo box. o or Arrow to
Openbook and enter.

DISCLAIMER: I don't have OpenBook.
