Re: [JAWS-Users] turning off the display
Not true, there are some notebooks that do allow you to turn off the display entirely. My older Averatec for example used function key with f3 to toggle the display off and on; while the f4 and f5 adjusted the brightness. Here is a link to a small utility that will turn off the display on a laptop when you run the executable file. The problem for us is that when you hit any key after that, it turns it back on. Other manufacturers may have a similar command implemented with their function key, you'd need to check their documentation. http://www.redmondpie.com/downloadscenter/TurnOffLCDv101.zip - Original Message - From: "tim" To: Sent: Thursday, March 17, 2011 8:58 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] turning off the display With laptops or netbooks. Re: [JAWS-Users] turning off the display
This can usually be done using a key combination of the Fn key + a function key. On my HP, I think I can do this with Fn + F4 but I could be wrong. The Fn key is usually down in the bottom left of the keybaord, second or third one in, depending on your specific machine Glen On 17-Mar-11 9:33 am, lmorris1...@gmail.com wrote: I have Jaws v11 on my HP Windows XP Netbook. Re: [JAWS-Users] turning off the display
That's indeed the same. The only difference is that the automatic option under power saver will get cleared-up as soon as one touches the key or the touch pad, whereas closing the lid will activate the internal display switch and thus the display will be off until the lid is opened again. If that's true then on my HP laptop I simply set the turn off monitor under power management within the power scheme tabb in the control panel to turn off monitor after one minute.
