Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 volume control

2011-03-15 Thread Fanus
Hello Rick
Thanks for the instructions. Just one observation: jaws is
supposed to be installed without sighted assistance but the
last few times I needed sighted assistance because at the
beginning of the install the install program says that it
wants to make changes to my system. this does not talk, so
there is no way to get to the stage where jaws is speaking
without sighted assistance. I find this a bit unfortunate of
software for the blind.

Fanus

Hi Kimsan,
Just as an extra note:
You can do the same thing by typing that in the run dialogue
on the start
menu.
sndvol
The way I described to Fanus was to acquaint him with the
options in the
search box.

Here's what I do to get to the volume CTRL in windows 7.
 1. click on computer
 2. click on local disc: (c)
 3. Click on windows (press w until you hear windows)
 4. Now press the letter s or s y s t e m until you get to
 system 32 and
 press enter
 5. Now type SND until you get to sndvol.exe and press
 enter to look at the
 volume mixer.
If you do not want to take that long route, once you are
 on the sndvol.exe
option, you can bring up the context menu and send it to
 the desktop (or
where ever you prefer), pin it to the taskbar, start menue
 etc for quicker
 access.
I renamed the sndvol.exe to volume CTRL and just placed it
 on my desktop,
 so
I wouldn't have to take the seenick route.
I hope this is what you were looking for, if not,
 hopefully someone will
bennefit from what I just wrote.:)
 Have a good day.

It seems that you know much about these technmical matters.
After I installed win 7 and it restarted I noticed that

can be the volume which is muted or turned down. What
worries me is that my wife says that there is A picture on
the system tray which indicates that no speaker or headphone

I tried to activate the windows narator but there is still

Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 volume control

2011-03-14 Thread Rick Justice

Hi Fanus,
Have you made sure that the speaker volume is turned up, and that the
speakers are plugged into the proper jack on the soundcard?
The RealTek on-board soundcard has three jacks, and the one in the middle
should be the speaker jack.
You may need to go into the device manager, and locate the soundcard, and
see if Windows is recognizing it,

if it is not being shown in the volume mixer.
Alternatively, if you plug in a USB headset, Windows should choose it as the
default, and all sounds should come thru it.
Even if you haven't installed specific drivers for the soundcard, Windows
comes with generic drivers that will allow it to work with basic functions.

HTH,
Rick Justice

Here's what I do to get to the volume CTRL in windows 7.
1. click on computer
2. click on local disc: (c)
3. Click on windows (press w until you hear windows)
4. Now press the letter s or s y s t e m until you get to system 32 and
press enter
5. Now type SND until you get to sndvol.exe and press enter to look at the
volume mixer.
If you do not want to take that long route, once you are on the sndvol.exe
option, you can bring up the context menu and send it to the desktop (or
where ever you prefer), pin it to the taskbar, start menue etc for quicker
access.
I renamed the sndvol.exe to volume CTRL and just placed it on my desktop, so
I wouldn't have to take the seenick route.
I hope this is what you were looking for, if not, hopefully someone will
bennefit from what I just wrote.:)

Hi Fanus,
In Windows 7, open the start menu, and type the word volume in the search
box
you should get a list of results which you can down arrow thru.
These results will vary from computer to computer, but try looking for
adjust system volume.

 Hi Listers
I installed win 7 on a new hard drive but there is no sound.
Where in win 7 can I find the volume control to see if
 volume is perhaps muted?
 Regards
 Fanus

2011-03-14 Thread Rick Justice

Hi Kimsan,
Just as an extra note:
You can do the same thing by typing that in the run dialogue on the start
menu.

sndvol
The way I described to Fanus was to acquaint him with the options in the
search box.

If you do not want to take that long route, once you are on the sndvol.exe
option, you can bring up the context menu and send it to the desktop (or
where ever you prefer), pin it to the taskbar, start menue etc for quicker
access.
I renamed the sndvol.exe to volume CTRL and just placed it on my desktop,
so

I wouldn't have to take the seenick route.
I hope this is what you were looking for, if not, hopefully someone will
bennefit from what I just wrote.:)
Have a good day.

2011-03-14 Thread kimsan
Great tip Rick.
With your method, people can get to places much quicker than mine and its
good to be aquainted with the search box and how it works.
That was just the first thought that popped into my head when I saw the
email. I didn't even think about your method, which I like better than mine
because it doesn't take that long haha.
Take care.
