Re: [JAWS-Users] Weather Underground has changed

2017-03-11 Thread LeDon
If you are using research it you should know that it is not reliable. It is
a service provided by jaws but it is not supported. It will work when they
set it up but every time the website changes the way things are done on
their sight research it will no longer work. Since Jaws does not provide
anyone to support this between releases research it is not updated as
website change. It would seem to me that if they are not going to support
something they would not offer it because when it quits working they are
going to have a bunch of unhappy campers on their hands. Instead of relying
on research it is just as useful to go to the site yourself and fight with
the changes as they come about.

It's not working on the computer here either. Any suggestions for other
quick searches on the computer? Could it be that the research feature for
weather is having an issue? I know this has happened before.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Weather Underground has changed

2017-03-11 Thread Shane Hecker
Companies sometimes have 2 versions of their site. One is for a desktop
computer, the other is mobile friendly meaning a mobile phone can access
it with no problems. The desktop site is loaded with things that make
the site look good on a desktop computer namely graphics. The mobile
site does not use much in the way of graphics because mobile phones
aren't as powerful as a desktop computer. They tend to be more text
based. From what I've seen, the folks at FS tend to use the mobile site
for programming the research it feature because it is easier to work
with. So whe the mobile site goes down, so does research it.

A perfect example of what I'm talking about is facebook. Have a look at
the main site, www.facebook.com. Then compare it to m.facebook.com,
which is the mobile site. You will find that the mobile site is faster
and easier to use than the main site.

In this case, it's not the research it causing the issue. The mobile
site which was m.wund.com is down. So when that happens, it redirects
to www.wunderground.com which is the desktop site. The research it
feature doesn't know how to interact with the desktop site, which
causes it to say that it couldn't find any results. I'm not for sure
on this, but I thought FS had a way to program new items into the
research it function. Either that or they were going to make a way
for this to be done. If they haven't done this, it would be a useful
feature to add.

One thing I have also noticed about Weather Underground is that they don't
carry streams of NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts from various cities like they
used to.

I can get some of the ones I'm most interested in via tunin radio, but it
was nice to have them all in one place on the Wunderground site.

Perhaps something with the web site has changed, making it more difficult to
access the NWR streaming broadcasts like I used to with Jaws, but I'm not
sure.

If anyone wants to comment directly on this, we probably should take it off
list, so as to not be too far off topic.

Looks like Weather Underground has changed and the mobile site is either
down or no longer available. When I go to m.wund.com, it pulls up the full
desktop site. Additionally, when I try to do a lookup using the weather
research-it feature, it says it can't find any results.

And how do you get the table to read correctly, I keep having to arrow from
column 1 to 2 and back again, or read the numbers in column on the braille
display, had it right until computer crashed and lost settings. Can't
remember how I fixed this before and I hate it the way it is.

Research It is not working here today! Bleh!

Wunderground seems the same, although I can't get the table with temperature
etc. to read right, did it before but computer was repaired and settings
lost. However Research It is not working which has been the site I use the
most. I do get annoyed when there is some sort of warning and the forecast
is lost but it is a great place to look a temperature in the morning and
decide to dress accordingly.

I use that most of the time but do like to be able to see sunrise and sunset
as well as normal high/low and high/low for date. As far as temperature
current conditions I use the Research feature and absolutely dislike if we
have a storm advisory or high pollution alert because then the forecast is
gone and link for scientific ... is more cluttered.

It is the only part of Research It I use on a regular basis.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Weather underground has changed

2017-01-18 Thread Rose
My Weather Underground Braille page is under 85206t zip code. Works well
except with Jaws 18 the table near the bottom of the page is not reading
correctly, I once had it fixed so it read straight through the temperature
... but after my computer died that setting is gone and for some reason what
I did in the past to fix it using the new settings has disappeared from my
memory! I know I have done it but for the past six weeks or so, have to
move the cursor to the temperature degrees column and use the Focus display
to actually see column one. Annoying but until recently too much going on
to see if I can again have it read this table the same way it worked before
Jaws 17. Currently using latest version of Jaws 18 and this computer does
not have 17 on it. I know I have to turn the newer setting off for that
particular page but I can't seem to get it started. Will look in help when
time allows.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Weather underground has changed

2017-01-18 Thread Rose
Oh, first time I saw January 24 I believe it was in March 2015, forecast
temperature was 95 degrees and I sort of shook my head, hoping that I really
did not read that correctly. Since then every month is January even if it
isn't. Actually makes me wonder about the professionalism of the site but,
the Braille Underground is one of the most accessible sites with a 10-day
forecast, high and low for yesterday, high for date etc. I'd gladly sock
the person who decided, however, that the page would read January forever,
can't tell you, even after nearly two years how that can be confusing,
especially early in the morning when one is sort of confused about day and
date in the first place. I have done a double-take often especially in
summer when our highs in Arizona can be way over 100 degrees. I have been
known to check the date function on Jaws, or my iPhone more than once.
However, all the information I expect to see is there, 10-day forecast,
temperature humidity ... just the month is January regardless of the day
which I would change back to correct months if I could make that decision.

I use weather underground every day and the only change I've noticed is that

much heat one used. I'm seeing the weather for at least, the next week. I'm

Yes indeed, weather underground has changed, and not for the better. We
now get only current weather information, and no longer future weather
information, such as for the next day.

Who needs to know the weather for tomorrow anyway? I do.

If you can get me the address of the page you have, I can try yours,
because mine is no longer working as it was.

My site was working well till today or so. I had a correct current
reading plus at least a weeks worth of future forecasts. You are right
about the email address for contacting the site not working.

Each month the date reverts back to January1. It is the weather for the
present day, but, the month noted on the webpage stays at January.

The weather channel site is worse. Weather street gives me weather from
90 miles away. Does anyone know of another weather site that is really
accessible and accurate? Thank you.
