Re: [JAWS-Users] memo for the group

2017-07-23 Thread Humberto Rodriguez
Yes Steve, I hear both of those work well too, I am happy now with
Googlegroups, have no bounces other than appropriate ones and have gotten
used to directly adding or deleting subscribers without great difficulty.

It is a shame that current email practices, convoluted configurations and
unfair blacklists prevent us from using Mailman to manage lists on our own
domains, a solution both elegant and easy for us.

Regards,

Humberto

Umberto,

Right, I used to be on GoogleGroups. The group I was referring to was on a
mailman server though, and GoogleMail kept dropping users on an
almost-weekly basis.

But, I got tired of having to use the Jaws cursor to click certain things in

the Googlegroups setup a few years ago and have since moved all my groups
either to Freelists or Groups.io.

Steve,

That no longer happens with googlegroups.com and my experience is good
since
I change to it over a year ago. I run a fair size list and I had it as
you

do, in my domain eiberoamerica.com using Mailman, a tool easy for us Jaws
users to manage, but the number and frequency of bounces from Gmail and
other providers finally made me try Googlegroups. It is a little harder
to

manage, but after you become familiar with it, it isn't too bad. It lets
you direct-add subscribers in chunks of 10, it used to have a captcha, but
now it is only a question that you must check saying "I am not a robot"
and
it also lets you easily invite people, in addition to the normal
procedures

to subscribe and unsubscribe by email. One difference is the use of the
plus sign instead of slash, for instance, to subscribe to my list (which
is

in Spanish, thus not recommended for those that do not read the language),
is:

I just wanted to mention that the email list that Tom mentioned, which had
difficulties for a prolonged period of time, did not have problems with
people who had Gmail accounts. However, it, too, had its own server and
there were several providers, including mine, who blocked its messages as

Thank you for the appreciative comments. It does help to give us a reason to
leave the check box not checked. What I mean is it is quite complicated to
configure such a mailing list it only takes a single check box to disable
the thing. Worry not, I still have this domain until January 2020 at this

Hi David. I'm sorry this has happened and perhaps this explains why I had
that incident a couple of weeks ago with this list's emails bouncing back,
since I am a gmail user. This time, however, I was lucky. I'm still hanging

Over the years we started out on Yahoo, then moved to Google groups. Then
went to Mailman and once or twice I don't even remember any more moved it

Those last take some serious time to configure before making the change.

if you log on directly to your gmail (web mail) when the messages go into the

when you do this the list will be put in the gmail whight list.

one reason gmail is marked as spam is when you put a email address in the cc or

Not all GMail subscribers but a large chunk of them.

There are 4 reasons I am aware of for an email account to start bouncing.

1 a simple transmission error which some times happens.
2 An ISP blocks out a domain because it generates so much email traffic it
lands on somebody's' Spam list: for example

http://www.jaws-users.com

3 A person closes out their email address for any number of reasons and
forgets to un-subscribe from mailing lists.
4 A person gets a large amount of emails in their inbox for example and then
doesn't check for a period of time. So long in fact their mail box gets
filled up and can't accept any more messages.

In the past year Microsoft based email addresses were effected and we have
never totally recovered from that particular loss.

So we're down under 550 now where yesterday we were over 700 if you can
believe it.

This is my continued effort to keep you out there informed as to what is
going on behind the seen. Believe me it is not all that exciting most of the

David, was this with all G-mail users, or just some of them.

I'm using G-mail for the Jaws Users list, but I still received your message,
which leads me to assume that I'm still on the list.

Can you confirm?

We have been hit in the past by email providers bouncing messages from this
domain, but today ranks as the worst in our history. We lost 162 members
today just under 25% of our total subscribers. Almost all of them were using
GMail with a couple of other ISPs thrown in for good measure.

We have never had a problem with GMail before but they sure made up for it
this morning.

If anybody has contact with one of the people who have been removed ask them
to contact GMail if they can and ask this domain be placed on their white
list or whatever they happen to call it.

A few more days like this and there won’t be much of a point in going on.

I remember as a little boy my dad saying you can’t fight city hall. In this
case you can’t fight being black listed.

Re: [JAWS-Users] memo for the group

2017-07-20 Thread Jason White
Do you have SPF, DKIM and DMARC configured for the domain? They're all
interrelated measures that together help to establish the authenticity of
outbound messages. They're also used by the better e-mail providers and ISPs to
distinguish legitimate senders from spammers.
I took the time to configure them for my domain, and I haven't since had
legitimate mail rejected by mail providers as far as I know. On the other hand,
I'm not responsible for any high-traffic mailing lists.
