RE: itunes latest version and latest jfw question

2015-07-29 Thread Kimsan via Jfw
Jaws scripts?
How would I determine what you are referring too.

Do I look in the CTRL panel under programs and features? If so, I see
nothing related to scripts.

Do I look under the jaws 16 enu folder? If looking there, I just see itunes
preferences. Well, there are other stuff there, but relating to itunes that
is all I see.

Drew, it really depends on what you like to do when using your computer.
From all accounts, most of what we as screen reader users do with Windows 7
and 8.1, we should be able to do with Windows 10. The new Windows 10 has a
new web browser called the Edge, which may not deliver the best web
experience in the beginning. You can learn more about that by listening to
the Windows 10 discussion on Fs Cast EP 109. Glen Gordon was a guest on
that show, and he talks in depth about Windows 10. Also, from what he said
on the show, when you first install Windows 10, you won't have JAWS speech.
You will have to use narrator at first, and then once the set up wizzard has
finished, you can run JAWS and it will work, as long as you have the latest
build of JAWS 16. Magic users must be running version 13. I am a little
concerned about how frequently Microsoft plans to update this new version of
Windows. That was also discussed on the FS cast episode I referenced
earlier. I wonder how that will affect JAWS performance or any screen
reader or magnifier performance for that matter. Hope this helps!

the best way of getting familiar with scripting is to follow the basics
of scripting downloaded from freedomscientific.com. you can also refer
to the help built in JAWS by pressing insert f1. to open books, just
right arrow. to read topics, press enter on them and press f6 to switch
to it's window. press shift f6 to get back to the table of contents, and
repeat. alternately, there is a previous/next link or button at the end
of the window. this way, you can take your time.

Hello T Using,

I've actually never had any problems with JAWS Technical Support. All my
encounters have been courteous, and admittedly, when their only suggestion
was to run JAWS in default mode and/or delete all the user settings, I've
complained that it was an onerous thing to suggest, they still didn't
treat

me in any way a demeaning manner.

Sometimes I've found that my personal attitude at the initial call has a
lot

to do with how the responder reacts, and I try to have an open,
non-confrontational attitude at the first encounter -- after all even
though

it's been brewing in my mind for several hours or days, it's a brand-new
situation for the tech support person.

As to Amazon, I find it pretty good to use with any version of JAWS in the
standard mode. Just use all the different navigational techniques until
you

come up with a pattern that works for you. I use the navigational keys to
move around, and in my experience, there are a number of combo lists that
come up when you select different ship addresses, recipients, or payment
options. Shipping method tends to be radio buttons.

Also note that if you ;purchase more than one item, and if they are
shipped
by different vendors, you will need to select shipping options for each
one

separately, since they all have different shipping options.

I see that you're using JAWS 15, but I don't think that there are any
significant enhancements in JAWS 16 that would resolve your issues.

Hi,

Seldom if ever have I ever expressed any dissatisfaction with Freedom
Scientific.

I had been told to upgrade to JAWS 15 so finally I did it.

Well, with afriend watching my every move, I

Found it was very difficult to buy items on amazon.com/access,

Impossible to select a different gift recipientfrom a list of

People one lists for shipping, and impossible to change shipping options.

I was using the latest Firefox with JAWS 15.

I called Freedom Scientificand explained this. I was told sarcastically
to

go buy a new version of JAWS which I frankly thought was totally out of
line-since F S had been tauting the virtues of JAWS 15 for sometime!

Thinking some one cared, I mentioned that JAWS does not work with the
Amazon music player-very useful for playing musicand

Downloading music.

Would you believe I was corrected in a short manner as the speaker from
F

S quipped why would any one

Even want to use the music player.

Why would any one asksuch astupidquestion?

I guess we should be permitted to use some key Amazon features and not
others.

He criticized me for using JAWS 15-which was what F S had been
recommending all along.

Great sarcastic moral support.

So I ask this.

Are people shopping using JAWS 15 and latest Firefox on
Amazon.com/access?

I have watched friends use the Amazon music player and it has a lot of
good features. But F S I guess would

Dole outaccessibilityand maybe permit us to use it 3 versions from now.
The

sarcasm

Called support hit hardas I spent a lot of time

Trying to use the Amazon site and the player.

Also F S support had told me that JAWS 15 worked with both.

Thank you and have a good day.

RE: JAWS and Amazon

2015-07-29 Thread Tusing via Jfw

Hi,
Thanks to all for responding.

Per Adrian's point,

n The exception is your third point, the Amazon Music player. I don't use it
myself, but a friend who is an experienced and ingenious JAWS user who hates
iTunes is corresponding with Amazon in an attempt to get them to fix
problems with the music player. No good news there, at least for now.
Adrian, thanks to your friend for trying to get Amazon to make its
great music player accessible. For one thing, play lists do not vanish on
that player as they do on Itunes.
CNBC did a 5 minute discussion of disappearing play lists on Itunes
Actually yesterday morning on CNBC.
I have not used Itunes player having heard from others, but the CNBC
discussion was not
Particularly encouraging on those lines.

  I would like to help
In terms of the Amazon music player.
My
Email address is
ptus...@sbcglobal.net
and if your friend wants some help with Amazon, please have him or her
write me with the word Amazon in the subject line.
Having a better option--meaning the availability of an accessible Amazon
music player would be a very good thing.
Play lists remain intact.

Per new versions of JAWS, not every version is that much better than
previous; and one person has already commented today that
The Amazon usage is not improved with v. 16. I really like the
JAWS software; and 80% of the tech support people are great.

What amazes me how many of my friends tried Itunes and migrated to
Apple with Microsoft 8.1 and the web issues with that.
I would think that F S would do hand flips to keep users in the
Non-Apple eco system --meaning encouraging a good music player not
offered by Apple but
The very good Amazon player where one can also download music.
This is why I was so surprised at the criticism I took for wanting to use
simply a better music player (Amazon)
Versus what some consider to be less useful Itunes.

Have a great day.

A delayed response, but I've finally tested the inline frames suggestion and
it makes a huge improvement. From what I can tell, by turning inline frames
off, I lose only advertising. I don't know if it would be true across all
websites, or if the off setting would risk losing substantive material.

I find nothing in quick settings for bitmaps.

Yes, I use all these techniques except for flexible web partly because the
NYT's webpages change from time to time and partly because the method is
just too cumbersome if used across the many websites I visit. In addition to
the minor annoyance of skipping links, etc., with n and other quick
navigation keys, the NYT format alters as I progress down each page.
Eventually lines break up, and I need to refresh. When I refresh, I often
find my focus has shifted elsewhere. I avoid say all on the NYT website
because I don't like to sit here as JAWS plows through ads, promotions of
other articles, photo captions, etc.

Navigation just shouldn't be this complicated. It's too distracting, as well
as time-consuming.

Adrian,
I too miss the print feature. However, I have just gotten used to using my
navigation keys to quickly get around articles. I generally use the 1 key
to skip to the first level heading (usually the main article title), then
use the n (next) key a couple of times to skipp past the various option
info. This will generally get me close to the main text. I then use Say
All or the read paragraph keys to go through the article. I also have set
up flexible web to delete as many of the advertisements as I can. While a
little more cumbersome than the old print function I have found I can get by
pretty well. I also like to use the H (next heading) key on main pages
(such as national news) to skip through the article headings.

impossible to find. The Times promised me, and presumably others, that they

I'm posting this query to find out if others are experiencing a particular
problem. Unlike in the past, there is no print link in an article.
However, there is a more link. After clicking on this link, sighted
readers can see a link to print. I can click on the more link, but the
print link is still elusive. I found it just now, but once I managed to
click on it (I had to go into links list), all I got was a printer dialog.
Escaping out of the dialog, I found the page was laid out exactly the way
the main article page is.

So, is anyone doing better at finding and using the print versions of NY
Times articles? If so, would you explain how? Any other suggestions? (I know
about the NFB version, but it lacks the links within articles that can be
invaluable.)

Hello list,

Earlier this week, I grabbed a Windows 8.1 tower at a really good deal. I’m
waiting until the weekend to set it up, but wanted to ask those who may have
already had some experience with both versions of Office. Is there any
discernable advantage to using the Office 2013 cloud version offered through
the Office 365 Small Business plan or the standard disk instalation with
Office 2010? I’ve got a 2010 package with one system install available to me
and am not quite sure if I should go ahead and load this version on to my
new system or if I should simply run the more recent 2013 cloud downloaded
version. This machine would be for my business anyway, so it’s not like I
have any plans on discontinuing my Office 365 subscription any time soon
either.

I’ll be using the latest Jaws 16and for the time being sticking with
Windows 8.1 until Windows 10 gets its first few bug fixing related updates.
If there are any differences in Jaws performance or accessibility issues
that may favor one version of Office over the other, I’d appreciate any
feedback.

Thanks,

Cristobal

RE: itunes latest version and latest jfw question

2015-07-29 Thread Kimsan via Jfw
Really?
When I perform control ult left or right arrow it says not in a table.

So, I do insert 3, perform the keystroke again, and viola.

Yes, that drives me crazy, and I only did it once.
Lol.

I do not have to use the bypass command first on my system. Not sure why
you would have to do that, unless you are using a different keyboard set-up
than me. That would drive me crazy.

Mike:
Thank you! I have to do the bypass command each time I perform that command
in itunes as I'm sure you already knew that?

The key stroke to do this is Control Plus Alt plus right arrow to fast
forward, and left arrow to rewind. Hope this helps!

can do in wmp and winamp?

Please just don't say yes so if it is possible, what's the keystroke? :)

Thanks.

Re: learning to do scripting

2015-07-29 Thread Maria Campbell via Jfw
Good luck. Some folks charge for classes online, which I tried, but
lost my money because I didn't even understand to get past the first
class. I don't think I could learn from a book, either. Possibly the
only way for me would be hands on.

I sure would love to learn, but I just may not be smart enough.

Just wondering how one learns to do scripting? If you can't see the

teach this from the beginning from a blind point of view?
