After pressing F2 to enter the cell, I pressed Home & then the right arrow key.
JAWS still said "Blank, Blank".

What is the zoom level in Excel on your computer? A friend suggested that my
100% zoom level could be the problem.

Dear List Friends,

I am using JAWS 16 with MS Office 2010 & Windows 7 as the OS.

Whenever I press F2 to enter a cell in Excel & try to read the cell contents
with the arrow keys, JAWS says “Blank, Blank” instead of the cell contents.
My sighted colleagues are able to read the cell contents.

I have confirmed that the Excel file is maximised. I have tried closing &
reopening the Excel file but without any change in JAWS behaviour.

Request your kind assistance in resolving the above problem.

Thanking all in advance for any & all assistance.

RE: Chrome questions

2015-11-07 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw
David.

I find chrome challenging when filling out forms within the context of a web
page. I have found that I can fill in the forms okay but navigating is not
consistent. For example in entering my social security number there is a 3
part field. I simply type my social and it automatically moves me to the
next field when appropriate Ie. xxx xx . (3 characters then 2 then 4 for
the social. However if I want to go back and check that its entered
correctly the usual navigation doesn't work well and I have to use a
combination of techniques to get the information within each form box of
that group.

Any suggestions for form fields within web pages and in a related question
as it relates to form fields in pdf documents.

Thanks.
Greg

Hi there,

there is a list to discuss Chrome, How ever, I have used it a lot and can

Here is the answer to your help questions. If you down arrow through the
Chrome menu, you will hear a help and about option just below settings. When

you press enter on that, the Help opens up in a web page that is very easy
to navigate. You don't need an Internet connection to use this Web Page. It
just open's up in your browser, but you are not sending info over the
Internet. As you navigate this web page, there are links for many topics
that you want to know about. For example, there is a link that says key
commands. If you press enter on that link, you will get all of the key
commands for Chrome. For JAWS settings, You do not need specific settings
made to work in Chrome. The one vertical Chrome menu has all that you need.
Just press right arrow on bookmarks, and you on your book marks. All the
same navigation key commands work just as they do in Firefox. Please contact

me by email, or request me on Skype and we can talk all about it. Also, when

I finish with working with Chrome and have answered all questions, I will do

a tutorial on Chrome. Take care.

You mentioned that you are using IE 11. One of our computers has IE 11, and
when I attempted to download a file, I couldn't figure out how to do it. A
screen popped up which asked if I wanted to open or save the file, but I
couldn't find a place to activate either of these options. There was a link

Thanks Adrian, or anyone else with IE 11 experience.

Utube - Music vault.

2015-10-30 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw
Recently when listening to tracks on music vault I am no longer able to
access the tracking or volume component of the site. Previously, I could
arrow down to the track line where it indicates the time played and time
remaining and I could enter on this and then arrow right or left to go
forward or back within the playback. Similarly, I could go to the volume
component and enter on it to arrow up or down the volume of the site's
playback independent from the jaws volume or the computer's volume.

Recently I cannot access this any more and I'm wondering if there is a jaws
issue or other that might gain me access to these very useful components of
the site.

Any helpful suggestions would be greatfully received.

BOO!

RE: Accessible education university in US

2015-10-11 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw
Pablo.

Each university has a specific department that coordinates all ADA related
issues between faculty, staff and student body. You need to ask for the
contact information of this specific department and engage of them directly.
Certainly, as you have experienced, if you don't take the initiative no one
else will. The lesson to be learned here is not to wait for anyone to call
you back rather, follow up with them based on a time line that you deem
acceptable.

Best of success...

Hi all,

I am looking for a university where I can do online classes for Human
Resources Business administration and management in the US . I have been in
contact by phone with several universities but when I ask them about the
accessibility on their web sites, or accessibility in the books that I need
to buy for each class, then their answers ends. I have been in contact with
17 different universities online, and all of them said that the
accessibility department will call me back, but I have been waiting more
than one year for those calls.

Guys, are you studying in Universities online?

Does anybody know a university, where their online classes are accessible?

And also the books are accessible?

My wife is low vision, and she had a lot of accessibility problems in the
university where she was studying . I am totally blind, and I have no way to
study if I found a platform not accessible, or books not accessible either.

Does anybody here know system better, what I can do if I need to continue my
education after I lost my vision?

What are the accessible resources today?

Thanks for all,

P

Hello again,

I posted the message that I had found the NetFlix search box using IE11.

Now that I used FireFox, the results are different.

With Ie11 I got the Canadian NetFlix page ...netflix.com.ca.
while FireFox brings up what must be the US site NetFlix.com.

With IE11 I always have to sign in and then go to the Browse page to
find the search box.

With FireFox, I am signed in and the navigation letter "e" finds the
search edit box.

Another problem, with the US site, is that all the titles are numbers.
Someone mentioned this and now I know what they were talkingabout.

Things are not right with NetFlix. I communicated this to the the
NetFlix tech support and they responded that I should call the help
line. This I had done and they did not grasp the problem that we have
using a screen reader.

Hello List,

I found the NetFlix search box.
It is on the Browse page.

Using the JAWS virtual viewer, one line has the word:
"search"
This is not an object that you can tab to like a link.

The line below has:
unlabeled button

When I left click on the right side of the word "search", the edit box
is announced. Then turn on the form mode, type the title, actor etc.
Then tab to and select the unlabeled button.

Thanks for suggesting the browse page.

Hello,

I think that it is a graphics issue. I have used both IE11 and
Firefoxand the changes made last year, have been worse for screen reader
users.

I'm using the Canadian NetFlix site. Last year they updated the web site
and I lost access to the search field. It used to be an edit field that
JAWS could find, and now it is an icon that JAWS cannot find.

Do the American users of NetFlix have the same problem searching for a
title? Is there a way around.

After you've selected the item shift F10 to context then select edit text
If there is any text there then you should be able to read it otherwise the
objects most likely are pictures of text or other objects within that
context.

Another possible way. I did this yesterday. Opened a 245 page PDF.
 Then

 I

Now it opens in Word remarkably fast and reads very well. It might be

I forgot to tell you that you lay your forefinger in the stimulator array

Greg, Optacon stands for optical to tacticle converter. I use the Optacon
R1D. It is an electronic device which is about the size of a text book. In
back of the machine is either a charger cord or just an electrical cord,
 if
you have one without batteries. The machine is encased in a leather case
 that snaps open and shut.

In front of it, there is a cable on it that feels sort of like a heavy
 duty
headset cable. At the end of this approximately 18
inch long cable is a camera that is about the size of a pocket knife.
 There
is a little knob at the top of the camera, so that the user can adjust it
 to

 accommodate print size.

Inside the main body of the Optacon toward the right side, as the device
faces you, there is a sort of metallic area that is about maybe an inch
across by two inches in length. This is called the stimulator array, and
 it
contains 144 pins in six rows of 24pens. These
pins vibrate, as the shutter photographs the character where the camera is
place. So the user has a vibrating image of a printed letter, line, as in
 a
9 x 12 room. In such a situation, different maneuvering of the camera is
required rather than reading across a straight line of printed material.

The device is a life saver for reading items like utility bills, getting
slip in window envelope correctly, checking to see if a pen writes, then
checking signature, checking to see the number on a check, and I could go
 on
 and on.

The Optacon is 70's technology. There is an Optacon Users' group:

 optaco...@freelists.org

It is a good idea to place maybe a telephone book across a page that maybe
you printed from the computer, so that you would be familiar with the
material to start to learn to read. If you don't know the print alphabet,
you could type it on the computer, one line in caps and one not in caps,
 as
well as a line with numbers and then punctuations, followed by writing
 what
the punctuation mark represents. If you know print, of course, that will
 make
it easier. It takes some practice, which can be taxing to build the skill
needed to use the Optacon, but it is well worth the energy investment.

I will also give you information to where you can look into buying one,
 and
the man will answer any questions. He is very well thought of by Optacon
users. His name is Richard Oehm.

When you come down to it, how do you read a picture anyway? Sure, you can

All kidding aside, how could a screen reader convey meaningful information.
I suppose a tactile display might be able to do it two-dimensionally.

I've heard there is soon to be released a device called something like

Another possible way. I did this yesterday. Opened a 245 page PDF.
 Then

 I
selected all using control-A. Then copied and pasted directly into a

Now it opens in Word remarkably fast and reads very well. It might be

 Hope

Greg, Optacon stands for optical to tacticle converter. I use the Optacon
R1D. It is an electronic device which is about the size of a text book. In
back of the machine is either a charger cord or just an electrical cord, if
you have one without batteries. The machine is encased in a leather case
that snaps open and shut.

In front of it, there is a cable on it that feels sort of like a heavy duty
headset cable. At the end of this approximately 18
inch long cable is a camera that is about the size of a pocket knife. There
is a little knob at the top of the camera, so that the user can adjust it to

accommodate print size.

Inside the main body of the Optacon toward the right side, as the device
faces you, there is a sort of metallic area that is about maybe an inch
across by two inches in length. This is called the stimulator array, and it
contains 144 pins in six rows of 24pens. These
pins vibrate, as the shutter photographs the character where the camera is
place. So the user has a vibrating image of a printed letter, line, as in a
9 x 12 room. In such a situation, different maneuvering of the camera is
required rather than reading across a straight line of printed material.

The device is a life saver for reading items like utility bills, getting
slip in window envelope correctly, checking to see if a pen writes, then
checking signature, checking to see the number on a check, and I could go on
and on.

The Optacon is 70's technology. There is an Optacon Users' group:

optaco...@freelists.org

It is a good idea to place maybe a telephone book across a page that maybe
you printed from the computer, so that you would be familiar with the
material to start to learn to read. If you don't know the print alphabet,
you could type it on the computer, one line in caps and one not in caps, as
well as a line with numbers and then punctuations, followed by writing what
the punctuation mark represents. If you know print, of course, that will
make
it easier. It takes some practice, which can be taxing to build the skill
needed to use the Optacon, but it is well worth the energy investment.

I will also give you information to where you can look into buying one, and
the man will answer any questions. He is very well thought of by Optacon
users. His name is Richard Oehm.

Interesting, Gregg. Bill is right too, and his keys might be more
satisfactory. Insert Delete gives you line number and column number. I
can't figure if column is for space. I just wrote a couple of lines with a
skip, and I got line three, column 90. The Alt Delete gives you inches. The
Insert Delete gives the information more like it used to do in Old
WordPerfect 5.1. Probably a lot of yall are young enough never to have used
it, but we thought it was hot stuff back in the 90's.

Looks like I have to shut JAWS off to use this shortcut key. With JAWS turned
on the cntl+alt+arrows refer to title controls.

Is there anyway to rotate with JAWS turned on?

I think I know at least where the problem starts…when I turn off JAWS to
restart it I use the shortcut of the cntrl + alt + J to restart JAWS..I must be
inadvertently hitting one of the arrow keys during the restart.

the idiosyncrasies of JAWS I didn't know to fix the problem.

So, here's a couple questions:

1. What is the shortcut to re-orientate or rotate the screen?

2. Is there any audio cue that can be assigned to indicate the screen
has rotated?

Not sure what the shortcut key is that rotates the screen but it must be
similar or adjacent to one that I use since this seems to happen to me
reasonably frequently.

Thanks.

Yes...Tom, that's got it.

Trick is that when you go to the desk top using shortcut key like windows M
ore windows D you have to tap away from focus then open the context menue

Certainly would be nice to know when/if it changes...Couldn't find the

Hi Greg,
This problem is not unique to Dell laptops; I've run into this issue with
Dell desktop machines that have an Intel graphics adapter. I think the
shortcut that caused the screen rotation is ctrl+alt+right arrow, and to set

it back to normal may be ctrl+alt+up arrow. If that doesn't work, put focus

on the desktop and make sure that nothing is selected. Then bring up the
context menu with the applications key or shift+f10, and look for something
related to Intel Graphics. Open that submenu and in there you should see an

option to reorient the screen. You may also see something that will disable
screen rotation.

Hope that helps.

Subject: Screen rotation.

 Hi all.

From time to time my screen orientation gets rotated 90 degrees. I only
know this because my wife happens to see my screen. When it is brought to
my attention, I then recollect that I have frequent cursor jumping and
 other
minor focus issues. Since they were only annoyances that I chalked up to
the idiosyncrasies of JAWS I didn't know to fix the problem.

 So, here's a couple questions:

 1. What is the shortcut to re-orientate or rotate the screen?

 2. Is there any audio cue that can be assigned to indicate the
 screen
 has rotated?

Not sure what the shortcut key is that rotates the screen but it must be
similar or adjacent to one that I use since this seems to happen to me
 reasonably frequently.

 Thanks.

Hey Nicole.

Tim's suggestion gets it done without shutting off JAWS.

Windows + M or D to desktop then take focus off any icons then open the
context menue shift + f10 then to graphic options and to rotate screen.

I can't see the orientation so for me this indicates that I've set it to
normal orientation

 Hi Greg,
This problem is not unique to Dell laptops; I've run into this issue
with Dell desktop machines that have an Intel graphics adapter. I
think the shortcut that caused the screen rotation is ctrl+alt+right
arrow, and to set it back to normal may be ctrl+alt+up arrow. If that
doesn't work, put focus on the desktop and make sure that nothing is
selected. Then bring up the context menu with the applications key or
shift+f10, and look for something related to Intel Graphics. Open that
submenu and in there you should see an option to reorient the screen.
You may also see something that will disable screen rotation.

 Hope that helps.

On the Dell laptops I've seen, Control plus Alt plus Up Arrow did the
trick. However, it never worked for me while JAWS was running. Only when I
exited. That may not be true for everyone. Which keystroke works may depend
on your graphic card. I don't know of any way to assign an audio cue.

type 'rotate screen' and arrow to 'screen orientation'. The search

Yes...Tom, that's got it.

Trick is that when you go to the desk top using shortcut key like windows M
ore windows D you have to tap away from focus then open the context menue
where I found Graphic options and could arrow to rotate to normal.

Certainly would be nice to know when/if it changes...Couldn't find the

screen rotation

2015-04-25 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw
Hi all.

I discovered when arrowing around the context menue a feature that will
notify you of any graphic changes you make.

So, if you open the context menue on the desktop by pressing shift F10 when
not focused on an icon you will arrow down to graphic options then arrow to
balloon notifications where you can select enable or disable a notification
that prompts you to accept the changes when you make them to a graphics
setting such as rotating the screen.

Cheers to all for their input on this one.

Accessing embedded objects in excel.

2015-01-20 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw
Does anyone know how to access embedded objects in excel? When tabbing to a
sheet within a workbook it reads the name of the sheet and then states the
number of embedded objects. What is an embedded object and how do you
access it?

Does anyone know of a search engine that works well with jaws fourteen.
I have ask.com and I cannot find anything I want when doing a search.
I get link after link that have nothing to do with what I am looking

I remember once that there was a search enginge for the blind but do
not remember what it was or if it worked.

I use i.e. latest and windoweyes latest as well as firefox latest.
Still no matter what I use I just wind up frustrated.

RE: Pivot table excel question

2015-01-14 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw
Once you have created the pivot table and added the category to row or
column titles then you'll need to set the field settings to what you need.

Take a look at mrexcel.com. They have 5 minute tutorials that will help
you.

Shorcut keys:
Select the data field then alt +n then enter twice. Then create the pivot
table . Then f6 opens the pivot table settings select the category you wish
to display then shift + f10 to set in the field then tab to the category
button you just created and enter on that to set the field settings.

Hey Kim.

I just looked up this which you might find useful

To quickly locate a specific form control press INSERT+F5. This command
lists all form controls and their contents on the current page. Move through
the list and press ENTER to move to the selected control. Forms mode is
automatically enabled so you are ready to make changes to the control. And
if you have already entered information in a long form, use the Forms List
to quickly review the information.

This page has more details and other info that might help. Let us all know
if you get it to work and how...it seems to be a problem we all run into...

RE: Reading column/row titles in Excel

2014-12-29 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw
I've been working on this one and the simplest answer to your question is
that you need to set excel rather than JAWS to be able to carry any of these
settings forward in excel or to enable another jaws user to be able to
access the same settings you have set to the document when exporting the
document to them.

Anyway, here is what I know to anser your question:

1. First, select the range of cells you want to set as your defined
region: Put the focus on the cell in the top left of the data region then
Cntrl+shift+8 selects the region automatically. Or, you can simply use the
go to feature or select the cells manually.
2. Press ALT+M M D to move to define names from the Formulas tab
3. Do not use spaces when defining the name of your data region.
4. Tab to Scope and enter the combo box to select the scope of your
region..Choose workbook or sheet.
Tap OK and there you have it

Also, incidentally, if you want to manage these settings type alt +M+M and
arrow to manage titles button.

Furthermore the following is a more lengthy means to setting it up but looks
to be more exacting.

I'm attempting to set up multiple regions and have jaws read them
independentlynot sure that is possible...FS is looking into it.

This is what I know about it:

You can define individual row and/or column titles for different regions in
the same workbook. To define a row and/or column title for region, you use
the same procedure described in Defining Row and Column Titles to assign a
specific name to a cell in the heading row and/or column. However, you must
use the following procedure when defining names for row and column titles
that are specific to one region:

1. Type TitleRegion, RowTitleRegion, or ColumnTitleRegion depending on
whether this cell is in the heading row, heading column, or both.

2. Type the region number. For example, you would type a 1 if the cells
were in the first region. There should be no space between the previous text
and this number.

3. Type a period followed by the coordinates of the top, left cell in the
0t08region (for example, A1).

4. Type a period followed by the coordinates of the bottom, right cell in
the region (for example, N9).

5. Type a period followed by the worksheet number. For example, you would
type a 1 if the cell was in worksheet 1.

For example, assume you have a spreadsheet with a region whose boundaries
are row 1 at column A and row 9 at column N. It also has a second region
with boundaries of row 10 at column C and row 14 at column D. Both regions
are on worksheet 1. To define row 1 as the row containing column headers for
the cells in the first region, you would assign the following name to cell
A1: ColumnTitleRegion1.A1.N9.1. To define row 9 as the row containing column
headers for the cells in the second region, you would assign the following
name to cell C10: ColumnTitleRegion2.C10.D14.1.

Hope this is useful...

Yes, the Kindle app works very well on the iPhone and other iOS devices.

Actually, JAWS is used in the accessible version of Kindle for PC to speak
the menus of the program and other controls. The voices that come with the
program speak the text of the book. JAWS can't read or navigate the text of

the book on the screen directly because it's in graphical form. As I
mentioned in a previous post, the Convenient OCR feature can be used with
this graphical text, but what you get may not make much sense if the print

Yes there is a Kindle version with built in JAWS accessibility. It's

JAWS works pretty well with it. Call Amazon Cust Support and ask for the

Be ware the Kindle speech synthesizer has only two voices, Male and

Neither is very good and understanding what is written sometimes takes a

Excel regions defined.

2014-12-17 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw
All.

I wanted to pass along something I've been working on that is proving very
valuable.

This trick will let you define a region in excel that will allow you to
function within that region independently of all other regions you set
within the sheet or workbook. It's a very nice feature when you want to set
a format for a particular group of cells such as an address block etc. you
can even produce pivot tables from these regions independently for analysis.

You may also set the widths of these collums and heights of these rows
independently of the surrounding columns or rows and you may also then set
jaws to read the titles of said rows and columns independently of other
regions you have within the sheet and that is the beauty.

So here goes..Typically a work sheet has a default of 1 data region. In
order to customize the sheet so that what you do within the data set/region
you are working only effects that working area you must define each region
independently. Here's how:

1.First, select the range of cells you want to set as your defined
region: Put the focus on the cell in the top left of the data region then
Cntrl+shift+8 selects the region automatically. Or, you can simply use the
go tofeature or select the cells manually.

2.Press ALT+M M D to move to define names from the Formulas tab

3.Don't define the name of your data region using spaces.

4.Tab to Scope and enter the combo box to select the scope of your
region..Choose workbook or sheet.

Tap OK and there you have it.

sizing cells in excel

2014-12-16 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw
In Excel:

Does anyone know the shortcut keys to defining the cell size to fit a
certain number of characters. I'm assuming wherever this is located you'd
be able to also adjust columns and rows?

Thanks in advance.

RE: sizing cells in excel

2014-12-16 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw
Dave,

To create a hard return or carriage return within a cell the shortcut keys
are alt+enter. Then when you get your series of lines input within the cell
you can resize as you suggest with alt then OCW. The alt then OCA only
seems to resize to the first word.

Thanks again.

Greg,

Not sure, I'm afraid. Seems as though there should be a special return to
keep within the cell, but if that doesn't work, try other combinations with
the Enter key.

Somewhat related:

Once resized can you place a hard return within a cell such as if you were
typing an address header? I thought that was shift enter but it doesn't
seem to work.

Greg,

The keystroke combination I gave you should be continued non-stop in spite
of the feedback from JAWS. This will automatically size the
cell/column/row/sheet to the contents. If you want to manually type in a
value, then you need to type Alt, then o, then c, then w.

Greg,

Alt, Then tap o, c, a. This will resize the selected cell. If you pre-select

a column, or a row, or an entire sheet, it will resize anything selected.
Note that Alt is tapped first, and then lifted before tapping o, c, a.

I love my blue Tooth keyborad.
I also have a soft sided case and mine fits nicely. It really is Slim in
its profile.
Taking quick notes, training sessions and other things are so much nicer
than the old way. If they have blue tooth enabled devices, it makes it
extremely quick and easy for me to ride along.

How does that affect portability. I understand those keyboards are pretty
small, but I travel with a soft-side briefcase that must hold about
everything I need during my 12 or so hours at the office or on the road.
Overall though, I would think that a talking interface and a real keyboard
would be a good setup.

2014-12-12 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw
Admittedly, this topic may not directly relate to jaws however I agree with
Ted that this is a very important topic for the blind. We struggle every
day to be more efficient with our devices and our phones are key in that. I
am too learning an awful lot by the thread. I don't know if jaws offers a
UI for phones but if it doesn't then I'd like to hear more about this topic
jaws related or not.

It's a very important topic for the blind community.-Original

This is totally incorrect. Android has a screen reader called
Talkback, and it has had this for some time. Mobile Accessibility did
make things easier, but it isn't necessary anymore. In fact, I don't
even know if it's still available.

One thing to consider here is that the IPhone comes with a
screenreader and the Android does not. When I was looking into it the
screenreader for the Android was about 100 bucks, though that may
vary, and may have changed since then. I went with the IPhone and am

I've learned more from this thread than from any other on this list in many
months. What I've learned is screenreader related if not Jaws:

1. Android phones now have built-in screenreaders.
2. Windows 10 will also have a native screenreader.
3. Most respondants find IPhones slightly more blind friendly than Androids.

Please don't shut down this thread yet. I don't want to have to subscribe
to another list to get this valuable info. To any who find it offensive,
group the thread and tap the delete key.

Pivot tables.

2014-12-08 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw
Does anyone have experience with pivot tables in excel? I haven't been able
to find any resources for implementation with navigation with jaws.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Pivot tables in excel

I'm giving pivot tables a go to assist with summarization of categorized

opening menu for Nested functions in excel

2014-11-30 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw

I'm trying to create nested functions within excel in order to execute
if/then outcomes. Does anyone know how to activate the function wizard as
suggested by MS without using the mouse.also suggested as below?

Create a formula by using nested functions

Nested functions use a function as one of the arguments of another function.
You can nest up to 64 levels of functions. The following formula sums a set
of numbers (G2:G5) only if the average of another set of numbers (F2:F5) is
greater than 50. Otherwise, it returns 0.

Nested functions

1. The AVERAGE and SUM functions are nested within the IF function.

1.Click the cell in which you want to enter the formula.

2.To start the formula with the function, click Function Wizard Button
imageon the formula bar Button image.

3.Select the function that you want to use.

You can enter a question that describes what you want to do in the Search
for a function box (for example, add numbers returns the SUM function), or
browse from the categories in the Or Select a category box.

Tip For a list of available functions, see List of worksheet functions
(alphabetical) http://www.office.com/redir/HA010277524 or List of
worksheet functions (by category)
https://support.office.com/en-us/article/List-of-worksheet-functions-by-cat
egory-7fd9655a-4e87-400a-ae5c-c48f16afde0c .

4.To enter the arguments, do one or more of the following:

oTo enter cell references as an argument, click Collapse Dialog Button
imagenext to the argument you want (which temporarily hides the dialog box),
select the cells on the worksheet, and then press Expand Dialog Button
image.

oTo enter another function as an argument, enter the function in the
argument box that you want. For example, you can add SUM(G2:G5) in the
Value_if_true edit box of the IF function.

o

Catagory grouping in excel

2014-11-30 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw
Hello all.

Can anyone tell me how to group line items in excel by their row title?

I have catagories of construction costs that have been expensed on different
dates for different amounts. I'd like to categorize them by row title so
that all the expenses for each category are grouped together.

Thanks, as always.

The formula that worked was:

=+'sheet 1'!e6+'sheet 1'!e9

The cell in sheet 2 where you type the formula displays the results.

If you are adding two cells of one sheet showing the total in another

The formula should be =+'Sheet 1'!E6+'Sheet 1'!E9

I'm trying to link cells from one worksheet to another and at the same time
add the values of cells on that first work sheet reflected as a sum on sheet

So.what I have so far is:

It shows the value of e6 on sheet 2 but doesn't add e9 to it. How do I get
the formula to add the contents of e6 and e9 from sheet 1?

As always, many thanks to all of you.

Try the left-mouse button, just to the right of the numlock key. If that
doesn't work, I sometimes find that alt-n doesn't appear to work when, in
reality, the problem is that JAWS isn't navigating as I'd expect. So then,

after pressing alt-n, I try left and right arrow keys in lieu of tabs, and

vice-versa. Sometimes the item you want appears in the system tray, but I
doubt that would be the case here.

Deleting is not as complicated as that. When in Excel, press JAWS+V to open
the quick change dialog. Then type the word title and you will find one item

indicating the row/column identifiers. below that is a clear title
definitions that you can use to clear it out.

If you put in titles and decide you don't want them at all, you
either have to delete the .jsi file, or reset the title rows/columns
so they are out of your way. Resetting is easier than deleting. You
could set column xx as the row title. JAWS doesn't read to the left
of the row title, so xx would be out of the reading range. You could
set row 300 as the column title, and use the rows above it.

To delete the .jsi file
1. Open programs.
2. Find your version of JAWS, which will be closed.
3. Open it with right arrow.
4. arrow down to 'explore JAWS', which will be closed
5. Open it with right arrow.
6. Arrow down to 'explore my settings and press enter.
7. The first item is 'personalized settings'; it isn't selected.
8. Select/open it.
9. Delete the .jsi file that matches your Excel file name.

good luck!

Insert+Alt+Control+C for columns, or Insert+Alt+ Control +r for rows. Set
the cursor on the column or row and hit that key combination. You can do
only one of these at a time. Excel will also sometimes forget this, so you
may have to do it more than once. I suggest saving the sheet as soon as
you've done it as that seems to help it to remember a lot of the time.

How do you get JAWS to read the titles of all attachments in an email

received in outlook?

I'm using JAWS 14 and Outlook 2010.

Thanks.

Greg

RE: reading attachment titles in outlook

2014-11-04 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw
I've tried this before thinking the same without success. I tried it here
once again both by maximizing outlook first and the open message 2nd. Still
loosing focus when arrowing right after the first attachment is read.

This is the protocol I use: Shift+tab from body of email to attachment list
then arrow right. It only reads 1 of the attachments and then it looses
focus.

This is absolutely true with W7 64 bit, JAWS 14 and Office 2007.
Works like a charm.

From the body of the email,
Shift tab once and you are on the line with the attachements, Now just arrow

RE: reading attachment titles in outlook

2014-11-04 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw
Thanks guys.

The problem with using the forward mechanism is that it doesn't allow you to
open individual attachments from the list, it only allows you to hear what
is there. However, it seems that if in the maximized view you can open the
email then shift tab into the attachments block and then it appears to be
accessible.

So, thanks guys...seems like we've got it.

Yes, try Control-F and then shift tab into the attachments. On my computer
it opens up the attachmentslist.

Best system of back up

2014-10-23 Thread Greg Nickel via Jfw
Hello.

I am interested in creating aback up for my computer. I am inclined to do
this using a cloud based back up because if I were to loose the external
drive I back up to or it were to be stolen or otherwise lost I would have no
means to replacing the data. I am also interested in keeping my computer as
clean as possible since JAWS is not working very well for me at the moment.
I'm assuming its because I need to reinstall it or windows or both.

I'm interested to know if any users have experience with any cloud storage
that functions well with JAWS. Also, if there is an automatic back up
component that also works well with JAWS as part of the storage service. If
I were to reinstall windows is there a way to save JAWS settings for its
reinstall subsequently?
