[ksmserver] [Bug 392995] New: Disconnecting an external monitor at the login dialog produces an empty blackness on the remaining screen

2018-04-10 Thread Eugene Jolas
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=392995

Bug ID: 392995
Summary: Disconnecting an external monitor at the login dialog
produces an empty blackness on the remaining screen
   Product: ksmserver
   Version: 5.12.4
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: l.lu...@kde.org
  Reporter: kde@prolinux.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Reboot with an external display attached. You should see the same login dialog
on both monitors, although when tested it showed up only on the built-in
monitor. Regardless, disconnect the external monitor. The remaining, internal
monitor now displays a black background with just the mouse cursor remaining.
Re-connecting the external monitor adds it and extends the workspace onto it
such that the mouse cursor can travel onto it, but both displays are empty and
black.

Conversely, attaching an external monitor if the system has been booted without
one does nothing.

I'm putting in my 2 cents on this report. I agree with Andrew and Drew. Opening
a modal window to edit image specific IPTC fields is neither intuitive nor does
it encourage good data management habits. These location fields (sub-location,
city, state/province, country) should be editable in the same area as the Title
and Caption fields of the right sidebar in the main window.

And templates should not used for data that changes image to image. Best use of
templates is for info that does not change often, but should be applied to
every image that is imported. Things like creator info, copyright and usage
info, etc.

I just looked over that bug report. I did not find it when I searched. Which I
did before I submitted mine.

All of the comments appear to be about this issue. And I would comment that it
has been discussed since at least 2012 (and version 2.x). With many other bug
reports in that thread being marked as duplicates of it.

I have been a professional for 22 years. And have taught digital asset
management (and raw image editing) to college students. This is a huge
stumbling block to being able to use this software in a professional manor.

Thanks for pointing me to that report.

I don't mean the read only section, there is a section in the right side bar
that allows you to edit the caption and title. This is where these fields
should be.

@Maik, We should also be able to edit metadata for many selected images at a
time without the need for a template. We can already do this in bulk with
titles and captions. Location fields should be the same way.

@Gilles, the method you propose is clunky and does not encourage good data
management habits. Though, it is an option.

Right now, the spacebar follows the typical focus rules: it "clicks" whatever's

spacebar to play/pause irrespective of focus.

currently kdeconnect displays sms or any other notifications only once and it
doesen't even persist in the kdeconnect applet in the taskbar. Either allow
messages and alerts to persist in kdeconnect under applicable paired device or
log them to systemtray notifications so at least the sms messages can be read.

Looking at the log, that was with 2.9.3 from the ppa.

Based on looking at github, where the version bump was, it may already be fixed
in this commit, and why it seemed puzzling to me, when I pulled down code (
https://github.com/KDE/kstars/commit/a4dca1023395d32726190ae1fb290232b6ea59b0#diff-f39341be36342731dcb803d6f568f236
)

I've updated since then, I'll see if it happens tonight with 2.9.4 build

I was on fedora 28 alpha and it was a confirmed bug.

I found no way to easily reproduce it so I think, I can't provide a useful

close this issue, if you want.

When I use a Gnome file manager (like Caja file manager) and open a remote file
from it with a Gnome app (GIMP, Inkscape, ATOM editor) it does it as is
expected by user: The file opened is not copied locally and you can save
directly being sure it's saved in the original file. So this is the way it
should work with KIO, IMHO.

[krita] [Bug 372221] Pop-up palette color selector - difficult to select colors.

2018-04-10 Thread Emmet O'Neill
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=372221

Just wanted to add that while pop-up palette and advanced color selector
currently feel pretty responsive, the color selector within the "Select a
Color" pop-up window (that appears when you click on your current
foreground/background colors) still feels significantly worse.

The other selectors try to smoothly follow your cursor even when it leaves the
widget area. On the other hand, the "Select a Color" window doesn't do this,
and the selection stops following the instant your cursor leaves the hue ring
or the saturation/value triangle. This ends up feeling very buggy and
unforgiving as your selection 'sticks' to the edges of the triangle/ring, which
is especially annoying with a pen/tablet or as you approach the corners of the
triangle.

[krita] [Bug 392982] New: While using Besier Tool canvas becomes unclickable

2018-04-10 Thread DusanVuk

Bug ID: 392982
Summary: While using Besier Tool canvas becomes unclickable
   Product: krita
   Version: 4.0
  Platform: MS Windows
OS: MS Windows
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Keywords: usability
  Severity: normal

  Target Milestone: ---

Description of a bug: When Besier Tool is used to draw a outline with a brush
preset on a raster layer, from time to time canvas becomes

unclickable (you can't draw anything) and some other functionality is lost. I
only use a mouse, not a tablet, to draw with Besier Tool.
...
Other functionality lost:
Mosewheel zoom doesn't work.
Middle mouse button click-and-drag doesn't work.
Canvas rotate (keys 4,5 and 6) doesn't work.
When a 2nd document is created, and then got focused back on a 1st document,
only a corner (small portion) of a canvas is visible, and a canvas

window scrolling sliders are not functioning.
...
Most of commands applied from a menu does function.
Bug never occures while using other tools or Besier Tool with a fill, but no
outline, or using Besier Tool with outline on a vector layer.
...
00h.00m...Krita started, new Document (single layer, 2000x3000px, 8bit
color depth) created, starting to work with a Besier Tool continuing only with
single layer.

00.27 Bug occured
01.22 Bug occured
01.32 Bug occured
01.36 Bug occured
02.20 Bug occured
02.24 Bug occured
...
Saving, closing and re-opening Document do not make the bug dissapear. Creating
2nd Document while first one is still opened doesn't work

either. Restart of Krita is the only solution.
...
The only settings I changed from what I got as a default by install is
>autosave time (15mins) and >undo stack size (10)

Nice ;) You can even toggle each RGB channel separately (although extra actions
for that in Gwenview would probably clutter up the UI too much, and 1/2/3 are
already taken for the ratings…). Now we only need someone implementing the
colour features in Gwenview.

I think so; the QtQuick part is in QQuickItemPrivate::deliverKeyEvent(). We saw
a lot of backtraces like this in Discover, too--all traced back to the same
root cause issue. However, it's quite likely I'm wrong, as you have much more
experience reading backtraces than I do, so if I'm smoking crack, feel free to

Cut, Copy, Paste, drag-and-drop to move/copy, actions, and compress make no
sense to have in the file Open dialog. Those are all actions that demand a
dedicated file management workflow. There's simply no way to adequately execute
those features from within a file open dialog.

Rename makes some sense since you may want to save a file under the name
current;s used by another file, and a quick way to rename that file is handy.
That's tracked with Bug 189482.

2018-04-10 Thread Alexander Schier
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=293888

With 5.44 it seems better. You can still watch the file list building for about
a second and scrolling is a bit sluggish, but it is not hanging and I can
select a file with a name I already know fast enough.

Its hard to compare to gtk now, because Gtk3 is much worse than the kde
filechooser was when reporting the bug, there probably because of mime-magic on
every file (which is a bit off topic, if kde isn't having the same issue here).

I can test 5.45 when debian testing gets it.
