I don't know what are desktop file hints, but while Element is indeed an
electron application, Alacritty isn't one.
So, kwin isn't checking `/usr/share/icons/hicolor/` by itself at all? Shouldn't
it?
No idea about _KDE_NET_WM_DESKTOP_FILE or _GTK_APPLICATION_ID but it seems to
be very DE-specific; I think the task switcher should be able to get the
correct pictures by itself with generic locations, shouldn't it?

mpv disables compositing, so kwin stops providing previews and falls back to
displaying icons.

Electron based applications don't provide desktop file hints, so kwin uses
whatever icons are provided in the X11 windows. Usually, those icons are low
resolution and look blurry when upscaled. It can be fixed if the application
provides _KDE_NET_WM_DESKTOP_FILE or _GTK_APPLICATION_ID properties.

[ark] [Bug 466122] New: Drag and dropping a folder from an archive is extracting only the content of said folder.

2023-02-19 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466122

Bug ID: 466122
Summary: Drag and dropping a folder from an archive is
extracting only the content of said folder.
Classification: Applications
   Product: ark
   Version: 22.12.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: elvis.angelac...@kde.org
  Reporter: northon_patri...@yahoo.ca
CC: aa...@kde.org, rthoms...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When dragging and dropping a folder from an archive, only the content of said
folder is extracted. I think it is counter intuitive. If I take a real physical
folder, drag and drop it into another folder, I would get a folder inside a
folder.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Drag and drop a folder from Ark to a folder in Dolphin.

OBSERVED RESULT
Example:
A
└── B
├── C.txt
└── D.txt

I drag B and I get C.txt and D.txt in target folder.

EXPECTED RESULT
I should get folder B in the target folder.

This does not only affect Applemail. Thunderbird and even KMail itself can
compose Mails KMail can't propperly display!

I tried to reproduce this behavior and composed a HTML-Mail (richtext) and
embeded a jpg. The send folder contained my composed mail. While clicking that
mail and switching between HTML and cleartext view my attachment magically
disappeared.

In HTML-View only a broken Image Icon is displayed. Changing the Attachment
view or Theme does not change this behavior.

But now comes the "fun part": During my testst this only happenend when kmail
was embedded into kontact. Starting kmail as a standalone app does not show
this bug! (well, at least in my tests)

One other potential inconsistency is the minimum size of an allocation.
VG_MIN_MALLOC_SZB is 16 on most 64bit platforms and 8 on most 32bit platforms.
I don't think that causes problems but there ought to be a comment in the code.

memcheck/tests/memalign2.c does a lot of tests like

p = memalign(1, 100);  assert(0 == (long)p % 8);

These tests pass even when the allocation fails (since NULL % 8 is 0. I'll
update them to also check that p is not NULL

SUMMARY
When I set "Icons-only Task Manager" grouped tasks to "Shows large window
previews", and click a grouped task, arrow keys can select windows not visible
and not from the current app.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In "Icons-only Task Manager Settings", in Behavior tab, set "Clicking
grouped task: Shows large window previews" and apply.
2. Open multiple windows under an app, and press Super+Number or click the
app's icon. This pops up full-screen previews of the app's windows.
3. Use the arrow keys to navigate between apps.

OBSERVED RESULT
The focus disappears. Pressing Enter opens a window not from the app you
clicked.

EXPECTED RESULT
The blue focus rectangle only travels between visible windows, coming from the
app you clicked.

[kwin] [Bug 466119] New: Using (-) values for windows position makes the window disapear

2023-02-19 Thread Mend
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466119

Bug ID: 466119
Summary: Using (-) values for windows position makes the window
disapear
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.27.0
  Platform: NixOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: core
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: thedjknowna...@hotmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

When attempting to use negative values for window position under 'Configure
Special Window Settings' cause the window to turn invisible and it's position
is moved nowhere near it is suppose to be. I can tell because I use this for my
virtual machine and the position where my mouse is captured makes no sense
what-so-ever.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select a window
2. Alt+F3
3. More Actions>Configure Special Window Settings
4. Add Property(bottm left + button)
5. Position
6. Use the Force option and use a negative value for x or y.
7. Apply and the window will disapear from view.

OBSERVED RESULT
Window disapears and moves in completely unexpected way.

EXPECTED RESULT
For it to move a negative amount of pixels off my screen.

Journal for the boot of Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-38-20230218.n.0.iso on bare
metal in which I saw the black screen problem twice

SUMMARY

I booted the Fedora 38 KDE Plasma live image
Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-38-20230218.n.0.iso in a QEMU/KVM VM in GNOME Boxes with
3 GB RAM and 3D acceleration disabled using the llvmpipe driver in a Fedora 37
KDE Plasma installation. I noticed that Switch User was shown in the Leave menu
of the Application Launcher menu in Plasma 5.27.0. The Switch User option had
been missing in previous Plasma versions. When I selected Switch User, a black
screen occurred. I tried to switch VTs by clicking on ctrl+alt+f2, ctrl+alt+f3
in the Keyboard menu in GNOME Boxes but the VT logins didn't appear. I shutdown
the VM.

I booted Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-38-20230218.n.0.iso from a USB flash drive
written with Fedora Media Writer on bare metal with sysrq_always_enabled on the
kernel command line. When I selected Switch User, a black screen occurred with
a mouse cursor that I could move for a second then froze. I pressed sysrq+alt+e
to stop all processes which restarted Plasma. The journal around the time of
the black screen showed sddm-helper exited with the error code 5 and sddm
"Couldn't initiate jump to VT 0: No such device or address" I didn't think
there was a VT 0 which might be the reason for the problem.

Feb 19 15:51:15 systemd-logind[1241]: Removed session c1.

I'll attach the journal for the boot in which I saw the black screen problem
twice with the same sddm errors. I'm not sure if Switch User was intended to be
enabled again. Plasma might have been trying to start sddm on VT 0 which didn't
exist, or the problem might be with sddm. Selecting Switch User resulted in a
black screen 6/8 times. I had switched to VT2 in VMs and logged in as the
liveuser user before selecting Switch User in the two cases when the lock
screen appeared instead of a black screen.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Download Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-38-20230218.n.0.iso from
https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=2154783
2. boot Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-38-20230218.n.0.iso in a QEMU/KVM VM in GNOME
Boxes with 3 GB RAM and 3D acceleration disabled or on bare metal
3. in the VM case, I disabled automatic login from sddm in System Settings. I'm
not sure if this is needed.
4. Select the Application Launcher menu in the lower left corner of Plasma
5.27.0 on Wayland
5. Select the Leave menu
6. Select Switch User

OBSERVED RESULT
Selecting Switch User in Plasma 5.27.0 in F38 resulted in a black screen with
sddm errors

EXPECTED RESULT
sddm would appear normally without a black screen

I've tested more.

Under Japanese locale, the situation is similar to Comment 16.

Under French and Spanish locale, Audacious is missing translations while
digiKam has everything.

I'm pretty sure these 2 applications are popular enough to have everything
always fully translated at all times. But something is preventing them from
showing up.

Now in Comment 14 and Comment 15 you can see how Deepin File Manager and
Audacious are both missing translations.

The similarity of them being they all use Qt.

Audacious used to be a GTK2 application. It was later ported to Qt5. I clearly
remember it had full translations in Gnome Software back when I was using
Gnome. But now it has none on Arch (!), one line on Fedora (!).

Deepin is a native Chinese project, so they have always been fully translating
their stuff since the very beginning, but they use using a very old version of
Qt, which could be the reason for why they still have 1 line translated.

Could this actually be a bug/misconfiguration to how Qt handles AppData
translation/its marking of the translations?

I've managed to get Gnome Software refreshed on Fedora. The situation is
largely the same, but with a small bit of difference. The screenshots can be
viewed in Comment 11 and Comment 12 .

digiKam in this case has one line translated, which is the "content" string
from the desktop entry:
digikam._desktop_.pot
#: core/app/main/org.kde.digikam.desktop:120
EN: Manage your photographs like a professional with the power of open source
CN: 自由开源的专业照片管理程序

The translation of this line is up to date, which was translated by me around
2021. So some of the new translations did get through (which was reflected in
your Comment 8). However, the translations for the whole description is still
missing.

Note that this is not just a KDE application issue. Most non-Gnome
applications, like the stuff made by Deepin project, also has only this
"content" line translated. I can confirm that on Ubuntu and Archlinux.

This is 2 years old?? Just discovered Konversation, and it was literally
perfect in all aspects, EXCEPT for Notifications not working in Windows :/

Text-to-Speech is actually working (after applying it, restart Konversation),
and Traybar highlighting works when the Konversation window is NOT active, but
none of the other seem to work, especially the most important one, Popup
message.

Found another ticket from 2019 just now as well, so seeing that one, plus
yours, killed any hope I had of this ever being fixed :/

I tried on the regular 5.1.5 as well as both of today's Plus and Next builds,
and the zooming issue is still present unless I disable the Texture Buffer.
Tbh now files seem to save correctly in any build. Might've been something
else, but at the time I did save two files and ended up with a blank
transparent image.

[plasmashell] [Bug 454946] plasmashell crashes in ShellCorona::loadLookAndFeelDefaultLayout() when switching between Global Theme desktop layouts

2023-02-19 Thread Aaron Rainbolt
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454946

After much fiddling, diffing, bisecting, and fighting, the code change that
fixed this bug has finally been found. And it is...

https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/commit/d8c6f30cfe66a3e6bc05ba0b2ced7c5ffaf1a871

Of all the code changes I would imagine that would have fixed this, that was
not what I expected. However, that's what `git bisect` finally gave me. I was
able to test this change (albeit with quite a bit of extra changes to try and
make things compatible) on Plasma/5.24 and can confirm that this does indeed
fix the bug, so this isn't a fluke - this is the fixing change.

Here's my current attempt at backporting the above commit to Plasma/5.24:
https://invent.kde.org/arraybolt/plasma-workspace/-/commit/cf7703e1019fe7fdc92edb4cc30388d87612fbf1
I don't know if all of the changes here are necessary, but I do know that
Plasma appears to still work after doing that, and that I can change global
themes without having plasmashell crash after applying this change, rebuilding,
and installing Ubuntu's plasma-workspace package.

[kde] [Bug 465993] KDE 5.27 Visual Ghosting (Wayland)

2023-02-19 Thread Evan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465993

Aha. my issues with ghosting (and a few other issues) went away after switching
the rendering backend from "software" to "automatic" in the menu spawned by
this command:

`kcmshell5 qtquicksettings`

Not sure how it ever got set to software rendering, but this has fixed many
bugs for me ranging from missing widet thumbnails, broken sysmonitor graphs,
and broken titlebars (the last one only happened under wayland). My ghosting
issues are all resolved now it seems...

No, this is not a ArchLinux specific problem. Ubuntu has the same problem.

I wasn't able to test Fedora because it does't contain Krita in its default

[dolphin] [Bug 466115] New: [Regression] Custom horizontal lines/bars in context menu no longer possible

2023-02-19 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466115

Bug ID: 466115
Summary: [Regression] Custom horizontal lines/bars in context
menu no longer possible
Classification: Applications
   Product: dolphin
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: schick...@web.de
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 156516
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=156516=edit
Context sub-menu with and without horizontal lines in Dolphin 19.12.3 and
21.12.3

For as long as I can remember, a personalized service sub-menu in Dolphin could
contain horizontal lines to separate items. To do so, you had to add
_SEPARATOR_ in the semicolon separated action list of your service file, for
example

Actions=action_a;action_b;_SEPARATOR_;action_c;action_d;_SEPARATOR_;action_e;

This feature disappeared between Dolphin 19.12.3 (Kubuntu 20.04) and Dolphin
21.12.3 (Kubuntu 22.04). The code above does not produce lines/bars anymore
(see attachment). I was not able to pinpoint the exact release that came with
the regression.

These horizontal lines are very handy and quite frankly irreplaceable when it
comes to add visual clarity to custom sub-menus, especially long ones.

My guess is that this is not a conscious design choice but rather a side-effect
of some code optimization. That's why I'm reporting this as minor bug. I would
love to see them back and I suspect others would too.

Hey, just wanted to chime in on this. Previously I was able to unbind space
from select files and folders in the keyboard shortcuts. I changed it to
Control + ' when it was mentioned that we could do that in this bug report
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458282. Now changing the shortcut does
work, but it seems that as of 22.12.2. Spacebar once again enters selection
mode regardless of what is set in the keyboard shortcuts? It's like all I have
done is added an additional keybinding to it. Is this happening for anyone
else?

This is not a memory leak.

A memory leak is when you forget to delete memory, there's no memory being
forgotten to be deleted here.

In my opinion this is a bug of the application, it is removing things under
Qt's feet, so Qt crashes

[kwin] [Bug 466048] [Regression] Bismuth tiling manager does not detect windows on Wayland

2023-02-19 Thread David Edmundson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466048

Having read the upstream ticket:
 - it's not detecting the windows because it's hitting a try-catch fail
*before* it binds to the other events of the window
 - hitting an error in a big try/catch block very strongly points to an error
in the script itself

Whilst clearly some behaviour change has happened in kwin, right now this looks
to be on the bismuth side until something more specific is narrowed down.
Please do update here if something more specific points to kwin.

Git commit acd4fa1f74d752eba8c23ff5b325a9da6b3daf9c by Andrey Butirsky.
Committed on 19/02/2023 at 22:22.
Pushed by butirsky into branch 'Plasma/5.24'.

fix: Keyboard layout shortcuts activate wrong language

Fixes spare layout's shortcuts activating wrong layout after the first
use, see the bug for the details.

When we switch to a spare layout (by the shortcuts or via applet's
menu), rearrangement of layouts happen - the spare one becomes the last
in the main loop, preempting the previous one on it's place.

Layouts-specific shortcut actions activate the layout by index which is
hold in the action's data. Thus, the indexes should be adjusted
accordingly.

[plasmashell] [Bug 460771] User selection of active media player is ignored

2023-02-19 Thread Riccardo Robecchi
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=460771

With 5.27, the widget shows the selected media player, but media keys ignore
that. As an example (formatting as a list for better readability):
- I listen to music using Strawberry and pause it
- then watch a video on YouTube with Firefox and pause it
- then click on the Media Player widget and select Strawberry as the active
player
- then use media keys to resume playback with Strawberry
the YouTube video is the one that actually receives the input. The only way for
Strawberry to be controlled again through media keys is to resume playback
manually (either from the program itself or using the button in the widget) so
that it becomes the active media player again.

2023-02-19 Thread Riccardo Robecchi
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466109

Bug ID: 466109
Summary: Pressing "enter" in the login pane does nothing
Classification: Applications
   Product: drkonqi
   Version: 5.27.0
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general

SUMMARY
When drkonqi asks for the user's credentials to log in and report a bug,
pressing the "enter" key doesn't do anything. Given that every other dialogue
in the UI accepts "enter" as "continue" or "log in", it is expected that
drkonqi does the same.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Insert your credentials.
2. Press "enter".

OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing happens.

EXPECTED RESULT
The user is logged in.

Bug ID: 466107
Summary: In many KDE applications, there's no obvious way of
re-enabling the menu bar and the toolbar unless you
remember a keyboard shortcut
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde

  Platform: Other

Status: REPORTED

  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

While filling bug 466101 I noticed UX a problem that affects multiple KDE
applications, like Konsole, Gwenview and Dolphin: You can effectively get in a
state where you have essentially no way of controlling an application if you
hide the toolbar of an application that uses the hamburger menu (or hide the
menu bar and the toolbar). While this might be intended by the user, the only
way to recover from that state is by knowing the shortcut to bring the menu bar
(CTRL+M or CTRL+SHIFT+M in Konsole) and re-enabling the toolbar there. I
thought about showing a message telling them about a keyboard shortcut when
that is the case, but I realize that's not good enough due to relying on a
keyboard (which the user might not have on a touch-only device) and relying on
the user's memory (check a more detailed explanation in bug 466103).

Considering that most third-party applications do not allow fully hiding those
elements, and that with the advent of the Hamburger Menu and other modern
interface paradigms the toolbar became essential for interacting with
applications (instead of only being a place to put the most commonly used
tools,) maybe options like these should not be so easily accessible anymore.
They could still be controllable by a environment variable or by launching KDE
applications individually with command line options (e.g. --hideui or
--hide-menu), which would be easy to do by expert users but would prevent
common users from getting in a seemingly unrecoverable state. They could even
be controlled by Window Rules if technically possible.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In Dolphin, Konsole, or Gwenview, select in the menu the option to hide the
toolbar (if an application doesn't use the Hamburger menu, hide the toolbar and
the menu bar)

OBSERVED RESULT
The UI disappears because nowadays everything is in the toolbar, including the
hamburger menu. In the past, that wasn't a big concern because at least the
window would have the menu bar, and hiding everything required two steps,
however, with the advent of the hamburger menu, the toolbar became an integral
part of the application and not only a place to access the most used functions.
A message is also not enough to prevent user error in this case because it
relies on users remembering what they have to do to bring things back, and the
hide toolbar functionality most of the time doesn't even have a dedicated
keyboard shortcut to be toggled anyway. Even if it had an associated shortcut,
users of touch only devices wouldn't be able to activate it.

EXPECTED RESULT
There should be an easy way of going back that doesn't require keyboard
shortcuts and doesn't rely on the user's memory, or at least, if there's a use
case for it, hiding essential UI elements should be made harder to do.
