[kwin] [Bug 466029] Big icons in task switcher when previews are disabled can get blurry, despite qualitative enough icons available
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466029 --- Comment #4 from Porkepix --- (In reply to Vlad Zahorodnii from comment #3) > mpv disables compositing, so kwin stops providing previews and falls back to > displaying icons. > > Electron based applications don't provide desktop file hints, so kwin uses > whatever icons are provided in the X11 windows. Usually, those icons are low > resolution and look blurry when upscaled. It can be fixed if the application > provides _KDE_NET_WM_DESKTOP_FILE or _GTK_APPLICATION_ID properties. I don't know what are desktop file hints, but while Element is indeed an electron application, Alacritty isn't one. So, kwin isn't checking `/usr/share/icons/hicolor/` by itself at all? Shouldn't it? No idea about _KDE_NET_WM_DESKTOP_FILE or _GTK_APPLICATION_ID but it seems to be very DE-specific; I think the task switcher should be able to get the correct pictures by itself with generic locations, shouldn't it? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[valgrind] [Bug 466104] aligned_alloc problems, part 1

Under French and Spanish locale, Audacious is missing translations while digiKam has everything. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465897 --- Comment #16 from Tyson Tan --- Now in Comment 14 and Comment 15 you can see how Deepin File Manager and Audacious are both missing translations. The similarity of them being they all use Qt. Audacious used to be a GTK2 application. It was later ported to Qt5. I clearly remember it had full translations in Gnome Software back when I was using Gnome. But now it has none on Arch (!), one line on Fedora (!). Deepin is a native Chinese project, so they have always been fully translating their stuff since the very beginning, but they use using a very old version of Qt, which could be the reason for why they still have 1 line translated. Could this actually be a bug/misconfiguration to how Qt handles AppData translation/its marking of the translations? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[Discover] [Bug 465897] Potential problem in passing AppData translations to appstream-data
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465897 --- Comment #13 from Tyson Tan --- I've managed to get Gnome Software refreshed on Fedora. The situation is largely the same, but with a small bit of difference. The screenshots can be viewed in Comment 11 and Comment 12 . digiKam in this case has one line translated, which is the "content" string from the desktop entry: digikam._desktop_.pot #: core/app/main/org.kde.digikam.desktop:120 EN: Manage your photographs like a professional with the power of open source CN: 自由开源的专业照片管理程序 The translation of this line is up to date, which was translated by me around 2021. So some of the new translations did get through (which was reflected in your Comment 8). However, the translations for the whole description is still missing. Note that this is not just a KDE application issue. Most non-Gnome applications, like the stuff made by Deepin project, also has only this "content" line translated. I can confirm that on Ubuntu and Archlinux. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 454946] plasmashell crashes in ShellCorona::loadLookAndFeelDefaultLayout() when switching between Global Theme desktop layouts
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454946 --- Comment #34 from Aaron Rainbolt --- After much fiddling, diffing, bisecting, and fighting, the code change that fixed this bug has finally been found. And it is... https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/commit/d8c6f30cfe66a3e6bc05ba0b2ced7c5ffaf1a871 Of all the code changes I would imagine that would have fixed this, that was not what I expected. However, that's what `git bisect` finally gave me. I was able to test this change (albeit with quite a bit of extra changes to try and make things compatible) on Plasma/5.24 and can confirm that this does indeed fix the bug, so this isn't a fluke - this is the fixing change. Here's my current attempt at backporting the above commit to Plasma/5.24: https://invent.kde.org/arraybolt/plasma-workspace/-/commit/cf7703e1019fe7fdc92edb4cc30388d87612fbf1 I don't know if all of the changes here are necessary, but I do know that Plasma appears to still work after doing that, and that I can change global themes without having plasmashell crash after applying this change, rebuilding, and installing Ubuntu's plasma-workspace package. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

To do so, you had to add _SEPARATOR_ in the semicolon separated action list of your service file, for example Actions=action_a;action_b;_SEPARATOR_;action_c;action_d;_SEPARATOR_;action_e; This feature disappeared between Dolphin 19.12.3 (Kubuntu 20.04) and Dolphin 21.12.3 (Kubuntu 22.04). The code above does not produce lines/bars anymore (see attachment). I was not able to pinpoint the exact release that came with the regression. These horizontal lines are very handy and quite frankly irreplaceable when it comes to add visual clarity to custom sub-menus, especially long ones. My guess is that this is not a conscious design choice but rather a side-effect of some code optimization. That's why I'm reporting this as minor bug. I would love to see them back and I suspect others would too. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466048 --- Comment #1 from David Edmundson --- Having read the upstream ticket: - it's not detecting the windows because it's hitting a try-catch fail *before* it binds to the other events of the window - hitting an error in a big try/catch block very strongly points to an error in the script itself Whilst clearly some behaviour change has happened in kwin, right now this looks to be on the bismuth side until something more specific is narrowed down. Committed on 19/02/2023 at 22:22. Pushed by butirsky into branch 'Plasma/5.24'. fix: Keyboard layout shortcuts activate wrong language Fixes spare layout's shortcuts activating wrong layout after the first use, see the bug for the details. When we switch to a spare layout (by the shortcuts or via applet's menu), rearrangement of layouts happen - the spare one becomes the last in the main loop, preempting the previous one on it's place. Layouts-specific shortcut actions activate the layout by index which is hold in the action's data. Thus, the indexes should be adjusted accordingly. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=460771 --- Comment #5 from Riccardo Robecchi --- With 5.27, the widget shows the selected media player, but media keys ignore that. As an example (formatting as a list for better readability): - I listen to music using Strawberry and pause it - then watch a video on YouTube with Firefox and pause it - then click on the Media Player widget and select Strawberry as the active player - then use media keys to resume playback with Strawberry the YouTube video is the one that actually receives the input. The only way for Strawberry to be controlled again through media keys is to resume playback manually (either from the program itself or using the button in the widget) so that it becomes the active media player again. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466107 Bug ID: 466107 Summary: In many KDE applications, there's no obvious way of re-enabling the menu bar and the toolbar unless you remember a keyboard shortcut Classification: I don't know Product: kde Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org Reporter: guimarcalsi...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY While filling bug 466101 I noticed UX a problem that affects multiple KDE applications, like Konsole, Gwenview and Dolphin: You can effectively get in a state where you have essentially no way of controlling an application if you hide the toolbar of an application that uses the hamburger menu (or hide the menu bar and the toolbar). While this might be intended by the user, the only way to recover from that state is by knowing the shortcut to bring the menu bar (CTRL+M or CTRL+SHIFT+M in Konsole) and re-enabling the toolbar there. I thought about showing a message telling them about a keyboard shortcut when that is the case, but I realize that's not good enough due to relying on a keyboard (which the user might not have on a touch-only device) and relying on the user's memory (check a more detailed explanation in bug 466103). Considering that most third-party applications do not allow fully hiding those elements, and that with the advent of the Hamburger Menu and other modern interface paradigms the toolbar became essential for interacting with applications (instead of only being a place to put the most commonly used tools,) maybe options like these should not be so easily accessible anymore. They could still be controllable by a environment variable or by launching KDE applications individually with command line options (e.g. --hideui or --hide-menu), which would be easy to do by expert users but would prevent common users from getting in a seemingly unrecoverable state. They could even be controlled by Window Rules if technically possible. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. In Dolphin, Konsole, or Gwenview, select in the menu the option to hide the toolbar (if an application doesn't use the Hamburger menu, hide the toolbar and the menu bar) OBSERVED RESULT The UI disappears because nowadays everything is in the toolbar, including the hamburger menu. In the past, that wasn't a big concern because at least the window would have the menu bar, and hiding everything required two steps, however, with the advent of the hamburger menu, the toolbar became an integral part of the application and not only a place to access the most used functions. A message is also not enough to prevent user error in this case because it relies on users remembering what they have to do to bring things back, and the hide toolbar functionality most of the time doesn't even have a dedicated keyboard shortcut to be toggled anyway. Even if it had an associated shortcut, users of touch only devices wouldn't be able to activate it. EXPECTED RESULT There should be an easy way of going back that doesn't require keyboard shortcuts and doesn't rely on the user's memory, or at least, if there's a use case for it, hiding essential UI elements should be made harder to do.
