[frameworks-kio] [Bug 442106] KDE file management has slowed to a crawl here in recent weeks
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442106 --- Comment #5 from Xavion --- Thanks for doing that good research. Before going any further, just remember that downgrading to kio v5.84.0-2 solves the problem. That means there had to be a coding change between kio v5.84.0 and kio v5.85.0 which is responsible for this bug (even if kio isn't directly to blame). If the developers can determine which line(s) of code are causing it, they can then decide whether to roll them back or go looking elsewhere (as you're planning to do). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[frameworks-kio] [Bug 442106] New: KDE file management has slowed to a crawl here in recent weeks
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442106 Bug ID: 442106 Summary: KDE file management has slowed to a crawl here in recent weeks Product: frameworks-kio Version: 5.85.0 Platform: Archlinux Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kio-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: xavio...@gmail.com CC: kdelibs-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- Hi Guys, There's a nasty bug in kio v5.85.0-1 which causes slowdowns when navigating folders in KDE-based applications. To illustrate the problem, I have attached[1] a video-grab of Dolphin. As you can see, there's a delay of about half a second each time I try to enter a folder. The exception was in the first (A) case, where it took several seconds! The problem also becomes obvious towards end of the video when it walks back through the folders to the beginning. (You can see how slowly the folders are changing in the titlebar of the window, next to the mouse cursor.) I wish this problem was Dolphin-specific. Unfortunately that's not the case as it happens in other KDE applications (e.g. Gwenview and the File Open/Save-As windows while using Google Chrome) as well. Downgrading to kio v5.84.0-2 solves the problem. As you can see in this[2] forum thread, it has worked for at least one other person as well. So, whatever code changes were made in v5.85.0-1, I'm sorry to say that they need to be revised/reverted. I have attached a screenshot taken from Dolphin as an example. The same applies to Gwenview -- and those are just the ones I've tested so far. When I take a look at the journal output, I see the following: [ May 16 06:38:52 Desktop kdeinit5[8946]: kf.kio.slaves.tags: tag fetch failed: "Failed to open the database" May 16 06:38:52 Desktop kdeinit5[8946]: kf.kio.slaves.tags: "tags:/" list() invalid url May 16 06:38:52 Desktop dolphin[8911]: kf.kio.core: "Could not enter folder tags:/." This allows me to have them both operational at the same time. I'm sure many other people have a similar arrangement. My previous (generic-branded) television gave up the ghost recently, so I had to buy a new one. KDE had no problems with the former, whereas the latter (Toshiba 40L3650) unfortunately wreaks havoc while logging in and with the lock screen. * https://toshibatv-ap.com/sg/en/models/40l3650/ Specifically, the KDE-launching process takes much longer than usual. I occasionally get a dialog box to say that 'ksmserver' has failed altogether. KDE then works normally, until I (eventually) get to the lock screen. The problem there is that the password field is unable to receive the focus. Clicking on it, or trying to tab my way to it, has no effect. This means I can't enter my password to unlock the system! My only option then is to switch to another terminal and kill the lock screen manually. To get around the problem, I've been using good old 'xlock'. It's far from sexy (by modern standards) but will do for the moment. If I turn the TV off or unplug the cable, both problems go away. I know it's not X11-related, as LXDE logs in instantly with both screens active. Furthermore, there's nothing unusual going on in the X11 log files. FYI, it doesn't matter what 'kscreen' settings I use. Whether the outputs are unified or not makes no difference to 'ksmserver'. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355006 --- Comment #5 from Xavion <xavio...@gmail.com> --- Sebastian: I'm not sure whether you're talking to Herb or myself (or both). I currently can't reproduce this issue at my end (on KScreen v5.8.1). For the record, the "QT_PLUGIN_PATH" environment variable is not set here. I guess this means the KScreen backend is being found in the default location (so no changes are necessary). Nonetheless, remember that I was only seeing the "No KScreen backend found" error message *half* the time. I was definitely not fiddling around with environment variables in-between attempts (e.g. just for kicks). This leads me to believe that the cause of the problem lay elsewhere. One thing I will note now is that the settings are blank - i.e. the dialog looks like that of the second screenshot (albeit minus the error message) - whenever I launch KScreen via 'sudo' (or 'su') these days. [kwin] [Bug 356263] New: Desktop wallpaper doesn't display on KDE login when using OpenGL v3.1 with EGL on Intel cards
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=356263 Bug ID: 356263 Summary: Desktop wallpaper doesn't display on KDE login when using OpenGL v3.1 with EGL on Intel cards Product: kwin Version: 5.4.3 Platform: Archlinux Packages OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: NOR Component: egl Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: xavio...@gmail.com Within KDE's "Compositor" settings, I've got the "rendering backend" set to OpenGL v3.1 and the "OpenGL interface" set to EGL. When I log out of KDE and log back in again, I notice that my desktop wallpaper doesn't display. Instead, I still see SDDM's "login progress" screen. I have tried this several times and the result is always the same. If I set the "OpenGL interface" (back) to GLX, my desktop wallpaper instantly shows up (again). Furthermore, it displays as expected after logging out and logging back in to KDE (each time). I'm using "v1:2.99.917+478+gdf72bc5-3" of Arch Linux's "xf86-video-intel" package. I will attach a couple of screenshots to illustrate my point shortly. Reproducible: Always -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
