[kwin] [Bug 478676] Activities menu missing for ALL windows
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478676 aplatypus changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|--- |NOT A BUG Status|REPORTED|RESOLVED --- Comment #2 from aplatypus --- * I restarted my Kubuntu workstation again * This time I did a `shutdown` * I rebooted * Logged in to X11 Plasma session -- Activities menu was present (tick); logged-out * Logged in to Wayland Plasma session -- Activities menu was present (tick) There must have been something wrong with the runtime instance, as I had previously rebooted (not a shutdown) prior to seeing this problem. The reason I rebooted was some trouble with Firefox windows. My recommendation now is if you have issues that look like they are related to the graphics stuff, etc. Perform a shutdown, not just reboot to let the GPU flush or whatever has to happen. Sorry for the bother, hopefully someone will learn from this experience :-) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwin] [Bug 478676] New: Activities menu missing for ALL windows
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478676 Bug ID: 478676 Summary: Activities menu missing for ALL windows Classification: Plasma Product: kwin Version: 5.27.8 Platform: Ubuntu OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: activities Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: william.full.m...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 164268 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=164268=edit More Actions with Activities menu SUMMARY Normally when one clicks on the "More actions" icon at the top-left of a window the menu shows Desktops and Activities (see screenshot 1. "Activities Menu as Expected"). Instead that menu has valished! See second screenshot (2. "Activities Menu No Longer Exists"). That is a BIG change. Even if it is a purposed change, it is definitely not OK without some announcement or something in my assessment. Also, it is not a bug fix or patch it is a NEW UI feature and should have a feature version number like 5.29.x or something. No not even a 5.28.x because it is a completly new UI implenentation. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Make sure you have the latest desktop installed (this is Kubuntu 23.10) 2. Open any window 3. Click on the "More actions" icon 3. Other menu items like Deskops are still there OBSERVED RESULT 5. Activities menu item as shown in first screenshot is Absent! 6. There was/is no configuration or setting available to put the Activities menu back (see "Window Decorations / Titlebar buttons" for example of where that kind of thing might be provided for users). 7. A search so far to find out how to restore the menu has Not proven fruitful. I'd expect something writte-up in help or a man page or something... EXPECTED RESULT 8. Expect and want the Activities menu that was there 4 hours ago when I logged on this morning. 9. I expect the have facility show the same window on two or more Activities using the activity checkbox on the menu. I can not do that at the moment. 10. I expect to have some method to share a window between 2 or more Activies on command line or with some tool or configuration or somehow. Just to completely obliviate such an important capability is very, very dissapointing. 11. I have not found a method to make an equivalent setting or way to see the same window on more than one activities. 12. I expect that I could still allow a window to be shown on All Activities as a fall-back alternative to the absence of selective checkboxes. Check-boxes are prefered, just looking for something to get my workflow back on track while this error is sorted out. 13. Without the checkboxes for Activities at least having way to show a window on "All Activities" I'll need some way to manually present the same consistient view betwen different activitiestrying to manually mirror a document or window -- Often that is not even a possibility without Activities. [kwin] [Bug 475465] New: Export Scheme regression -- Fails to Export Keyboard Shortcuts in Syetem Settings
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475465 Bug ID: 475465 Summary: Export Scheme regression -- Fails to Export Keyboard Shortcuts in Syetem Settings Classification: Plasma Product: kwin Version: 5.27.4 Platform: Kubuntu OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: wayland-generic Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: william.full.m...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Export Scheme Fails for: Keyboard Shortcuts in Syetem Settings STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open System Settings 2. Navigte to "Shortcuts" 3. Select "KWin" or "Media Controller" -- I don't think it matters much, export doesn't seems to be working for anything I tried. 4. Press Export Scheme to export those shortcuts for the selected application. 5. For "KWin" I saved with the file: "tmp-Workspace-shortcuts.kksrc", in my $HOME directory. 6. Open a bash terminal, search for the exported kksrc file 7.Note the file does not exist -- I used the linux find command, no such file was located. OBSERVED RESULT The linux find command: find / -iname "*.kksrc" 2> /dev/null Found no newly exported scheme file. There are some default scheme files in places like usr/share/ and some back-up share files from System Settings under X-Windows. Nothing from the Wayland session. EXPECTED RESULT I expected the specified file to be saved to disk with the keyboard shortcuts for that categry, e.g. KWin. I wanted to audit the settings I have because quite number do Not work when in a Wayland session. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Distrobution: Kubuntu 23.04 Linux/KDE Plasma: Ubuntu 23.04 KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.101.0 Qt Version: 5.15.8 Graphics platform: Wayland ADDITIONAL INFORMATION * This is seemingly related to another regression on Wayland bug on Plasma for shortcuts that use the Numpad keys. * https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453423 * This is still a problem in this latest release and package updates. * My reason to want to export the shortcuts was to see if it was practical to use normal number keys since the numpad option unavailable. * This problem behaves like bug: 202684, reportedly fixed in 2009, I'm getting it on the current latest release with latest apt update-s applied. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwin] [Bug 472578] Second monitor stopped working -- Only cursor shows
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=472578 --- Comment #2 from aplatypus --- I have found a workaround late last night. 1. I changed NVIDIA the driver package I use. 2. Shutdown the PC, `sudo shutdown` 3. Turned power OFF 4. Wait 30 minutes of more. 5. Restart PC I previously rebooted or turned PC off with not change. I have found that there must be some CMOS or cache memory that does not clear until there is no power at all for several minutes. Some stuff has to be purged it seems. When I rebooted both screens displayed. I already knew that the monitor was "working" from the screenshot of the blacked-out monitor (see screenshot to see what I mean). I stress that this is no way a fix. (Re)Installing a fresh driver package merely set things back to how they 'should be' after an install. It is good enough to get me productive again. I did not change driver version, etc. I just applied "Nouveau" and then, restart then changed to the driver I was using originally. Of course it is much more desirable to know what setting or option needed to be tweaked, yes? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwin] [Bug 472578] New: Second monitor stopped working -- Only cursor shows
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=472578 Bug ID: 472578 Summary: Second monitor stopped working -- Only cursor shows Classification: Plasma Product: kwin Version: 5.27.4 Platform: Kubuntu OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: grave Priority: NOR Component: multi-screen Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: william.full.m...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 160503 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=160503=edit Dual monitor desktop -- 2nd monitor is displaying BLACK ... But screenshot shows a desktop. SUMMARY When I restarted the workstaiton the second screen no longer displayed as a desktop extension. A power-off and restart cycle had no effect. I am pretty much stymied now because I need both monitors to perform several essential activities. Trying to use just one screen will really curtail productivity. Everything worked just fine before the system shutdown. Also I ran the "Display and Monitor" system settings pressing 'Detect" did not display on the 2nd screen, the cursor displays. So I can see that the hardware is fine. In addition, I made the second screen a mirror of the first screen with the "Replica of" setting; the second screen came-to-life showing a clone of the Primary monitor. Turning the replica off however left me with a black screen. This appears to show several symptoms in common with earlier bug: [#450068](https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450068) and its duplicates. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. I do not know what happened, the monitor was 'gone' after a restart. OBSERVED RESULT NO second monitor -- I have attached a screenshot of the two screen set-up. When you look at the screenshot there is a second monitor desktop showing. I do NOT see that. I only see a black monitor and the cursor is displayed as it moved in that part of the viewport. May be there is a clue in that screenshot??? I actually expected half of the graphic to be black! EXPECTED RESULT * Expect it to work as it has done since I installed Plasma/Kubuntu on this PC back for 21.10, it has worked absolutaly fine for dual monitor case. * Expect some easy to find documentation to say where to look in the configuration files to determine what a normal multi monitor set-up should look like. Obviously the Display and Monitor gui does not tell the whole story. In fact once I saw that the "Replica of" setting showed me that the second monitor worked fine in both esoftware and hardware, I discovered it is non-trivial to get the extended display setting back (ie. No Replica). * I also think and "About" box could have a tab to say where to find critical elements like: * Relevant config files * Relevant log files * Link to things like troubleshooting wiki page or commands that might be useful in documenting or understanding what is going on. [systemsettings] [Bug 471093] New: Numpad shortcuts not recognised under Wayland / Regression
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471093 Bug ID: 471093 Summary: Numpad shortcuts not recognised under Wayland / Regression Classification: Applications Product: systemsettings Version: 5.27.4 Platform: Kubuntu OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: kcm_keys Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: william.full.m...@gmail.com CC: k...@david-redondo.de Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 159700 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=159700=edit Screenshot of keyboard shortcuts SUMMARY STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. I have used the shortcut pattern to switch to a virtual workspace of: Ctrl+Alt+Num+1, Ctrl+Alt+Num+2, etc to respectively switch to virtual workspace: 1, 2, etc for many years. 2. After upgrading to Kubuntu 23.04 I logged on using a Wayland session 3. My workspace change shortcut didn't work for workspace #1 (and other shortcuts). This is/was working under X-11 loging session on this installation. 4. I checked the KWin shortcuts and they are are set correctly. See screenshot for 'Ctrl+Alt+Num+3' example circled. This is how it works with Plasma X-11. 5. I then went to redefine the 'Ctrl+Alt+Num+1' (workspace 1) keystroke BUT they shortcut interface did NOT recognise 'Ctrl+Alt+Num+1' key pattern and instead recorded: 'Ctrl+Alt+1'. That is incorrect. 6. I checked this shortcut combination and 'Ctrl+Alt+1' matches BOTH the QWETY keyboard-1-key scan-code and the numpad-1-key scan-code. Unlike the X-11 session the Wayland session does not distinguish the numpad as a different set of keys (scan-codes). Sometimes the numpad is a completely different piece of hardware, so this is not what is desired. OBSERVED RESULT * The required: 'Ctrl+Alt+Num+1' does not register, and cannot be defined. * The existing (example) 'Ctrl+Alt+Num+3' is defined from the Kubuntu Plasma X-11 login on this PC * None of the currently defined workspace shortcuts work. * Instead the shortcut: 'Ctrl+Alt+Num+1' was recorded and uses the number keys on the QWERTY keyboard or the numpad 1-key -- Which is NOT desired. The keyboard 1-key is used for other things. EXPECTED RESULT * 'Ctrl+Alt+Num+1', 'Ctrl+Alt+Num+2' , 'Ctrl+Alt+Num+3' , ... 'Ctrl+Alt+Num+9' and 'Ctrl+Alt+Num+0', should be defined as distinct scancodes and work as defined with the existing X-11 settings. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 23.04 (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.4 (I think; The KDE ABOUT box does not display the Plasma release number) KDE Frameworks Version: No idea, where can I find that? Qt Version: v5 I believe ADDITIONAL INFORMATION * I have saved the shortcut definitions using they 'Export Scheme' button, alas the bug report only seems to permit a single attachmet. I will try to add someting later after filing this bug. * It seems by the list of 'possibly related' issues that came-up when I opened this bug that there are several cases where the numpad is being ignored or collapsed onto keyboard keys. * The thing with keystrokes, is that they match scan-codes, not characters. Often there are custome keypads or alternative controls 'wired' to the system that are do not at all match a keyboard -- Uses include custom terminals, machine control, virtual controls. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

I am just getting started. I wanted to see what the command line options were. There is a little pop-up but it won't let me copy the text can I can look at it. (That's another story). I pressed F1 for help and I had that annoying Windows app store pop-up saying I need an application to read this file. BUT, being Windows, it did Not tell me What file it was trying to read. In contrast I have also installed KATE on this PC. When I press Kate's F1 I go to a web page. - https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/applications/kate/index.html So I know the basic mechanism works. It KDevelop also a web page? I think, in general, it would be good for these menu items ot show a tooktip with the name of the resource it uses. And for bonus points such a tool tip CAN support a right-mouse-click option to COPY hte path/URL to the resource. That would be very handy. Anyway I used Choco (Chocolatey) to install Kate, KDevelop and Ockular. I figured either way I'd have the help covered. Once last question -- can you say where to look for the KDevelop help page? Many thanks and kind regards. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
