[Kdenlive-devel] bug reporting

2013-08-22 Thread farid abdelnour
hi

should we still report bugs for 0.9.6 or should we wait for the refactoring
to be done? will you be sticking to the current mantis or switch to
something else?

also do you have news about how it is going since the roadmap hasnt been
updated for a while.

cheers :)

Hi Steve,

To be clear what you want is a series of JPG images extracted from a video

No, it would be to export the whole video sequence, one image (png or jpg)
per frame.

[Kdenlive-devel] possible gui bug: stabilize not appearing under clip jobs

2014-10-07 Thread farid abdelnour
hello

the stabilize isn't appearing as a clip job option.

using kdenlive (0.9.10) mlt (0.9.2) under archlinux 64bit.

could this be a kdenlive bug or an archlinux one?

nb
this is the first time i try to use this option so don't know if it was
there before this update.

[Kdenlive-devel] possible gui bug: stabilize not appearing under clip jobs

2014-10-08 Thread farid abdelnour
So here is an answer from the packager:

"As I understand mlt's vid.stab module depends on AUR:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/libvidstab-git/

Or did I miss it in binary repos?"

They must add vid.stab as a requirement to mlt. Evert, if you could backup
my request, it would help get it in.

cheers

kdenlive/blender easier?

here is the blender bug report
http://projects.blender.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=34588&group_id=153&atid=469

ps

[Kdenlive-devel] Refactoring branch, important info

hi guys

I'm looking forward to integrating the scopes. For the titler ... maybe

if i may comment, with all respect, i honestly think you guys should focus
on the essecial editing tools... and the rest (such as the titler) could be
done by other programs or later incorporated through a gsoc project or
maybe you could use some code from krita or karbon.

 cheers!

[Kdenlive-devel] Website News

2013-06-18 Thread farid abdelnour
hi

it might be a cool chance to do a redesign of the kdenlive.org site and if
you like our studio can contribute and do it.

would you also consider, since all the rest will be moved to kde, to change
from drupal to wordpress (that way we can also apply the design via css)?

cheers

-make everything possible keyframable
-improve rendering gui
-fix bugs
-edl support
-import a project as a track
-meta-tracks (something like blender)
-multicam sync
-audio sync
-improve keyboard shortcuts
-improve proxy interface
-connect with karbon/krita for titler (or adapt code form these projects
into kdenlive)

cheers :)

hi

i dont know what the devs think of this but maybe you could check out
kdenparse and make it compatible with blender's edl importer (which is
compatible with cmx edl).

https://github.com/barry-lyndon/KdenParse

cheers :)

Yes, but the EDL can only represent a very limited subset of what

edl its not actually limited it is a way to be able to work with other
editors in different studios.

a sequence of tracks is a story to be told, and we need to exchange our
projects among programs (cinelerra, blender, and other proprietary
software) to be able to work with other editors as well when needed.

filters and transitions dont affect my story and either way that comes at
the postprocessing stage and imho blender does it better.

kdenparse is not actually that difficult to implement... unfortunately dont
have the time to study and do it. :/

cheers

Wow, this EDL thing is unlimited; it must be pure magic! I was trying

honestly i think users that edit their vacation videos dont know what edl
is and that shouldnt be a problem either...

i read what you said, i just pointed to its usage because you saw it as
pointless and i see it as fundamental.

i think in the end it all comes down to what kdenlive aspires to be... a
vacation editor or an aspiring professional video editor.

cheers :D

thanks iwan

if i can make some comments,

our lead designer at the studio can give us a hand for the design of the
website if needed.also if you have interest in switching to wordpress i can
make some of the development.

i love the idea of the video competition, it could be something like the
vimeo weekend challenge

lgm is a fantastic place, next year it will be here in brazil so see you
then ;)

hope to make it for the next café

cheers

Re: [kdenlive] Volunteering website help - if needed?

2016-01-25 Thread farid abdelnour
hi guys,

i am one of the people interested in helping out with the website. i guess
the first step would be to choose if we are gonna stick to the current
platform (drupal) and update it since there might be some security flaws or
switch to a different one (wordpress?). our lead designer here at the
studio can take care of all the design of the website and if we choose
wordpress i can apply it (i am not familiar with drupal). eventually we
will do a research and develop a design best suited for everyone's demands
and needs. i did a quick look around at other video, audio and graphics
programs to start getting an idea about what is out there:

proprietary:
http://www.lwks.com/
http://www.avid.com/US/products/Media-Composer
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegaspro
https://www.apple.com/final-cut-pro/
https://www.adobe.com/products/premiere.html

free:
http://natron.fr/
http://ardour.org/
https://www.blender.org/
https://inkscape.org/en/
http://www.gimp.org/

parallel to this we can start thinking about writing/organizing the content
and structure. (which is the most important thing.) like ttguy said, i
agree that content is the most important but it should be well presented to
the visitors. we can point to the forum, wiki and bug tracker from the
website and users eventually will use the other services if necessary.

if you'd like to continue this conversation here it is fine by me,
otherwise we can switch to the forum.

cheers

Re: [kdenlive] Iwan's first website design proposal

2016-02-04 Thread farid abdelnour
Hello all,

Iwan thanks a lot for getting this started!

Sorry i am late for the conversation but i am currently travelling and will
be back in Brazil by the end of next week. Then i will be able to
participate more actively in the process.

I personally think we should start to think first of the structure
(content) of the website and then focus on the design. Both are important
and should be well planned before starting to implement anything. Also we
could think of a website wireframe after having an idea of the content is
helpful. So basically i suggest: Content -> Wireframe -> Design

Meanwhile we can see if we maintain the current drupal or change the
platform. My vote is to move to wordpress.

Cheers!

i kind of have an itch for screenshot as well :) but doing some research i
think that features are an ideal place for them. also keep in mind that the
homepage will have some images as banners to give an idea of the "look" of
kdenlive. but if you really want a screenshot menu i dont mind ;)

[kdenlive] Fwd: logo proposal

2016-02-26 Thread farid abdelnour
hello

so me and nara (our head designer) started working on the website and when
see saw the current logo she thought to give it a facelift :P

we tried to keep the essence of the old logo while making it a bit more
modern.

what do you think?

soon we send a design proposal of the website.

cheers

hi jesse

needs moderation (probably because of the attachment.) so i opened in the
forum a new topic with the proposal. what do you think:

as for the website we started the concept and soon we send a design

the thing is i really dislike the oncept of the film strip. we dont use
film we work with video and we should consider that. also the arc used if
yu notice is the shape of the old logo's film strip ;)

we are going to take some of this considerations and send another proposal
soon.

although i confess that not hearing some input from the devs makes me think
that they didn't like it.

cheers.

if you could get someone to install a wordpress instance on kdenlive's
server i can apply the design. (i only know how wordpress works and have
zero knowledge of drupal.)

i see that there are many doubts still but i think many things will get
clearer if you could see it implemented.

too bad we wont be able to launch the website for the 16.04 but maybe for
the later dot releases or 16.08.

[kdenlive] two issues that i dont know if i report as bugs

2016-04-05 Thread farid abdelnour
hi guys

i am doing some testing before the release with today's build of kdenlive
and mlt compiled from git in archlinux.

i noticed two things:

1- the audio is out of sync with the image and this wasn't happening a
couple of days ago, can anyone reproduce this?

2- before i could move the timeline position cursor any where i wanted and
now it seems that i can only move it within a range of clips but never
after the last clip. does this happen to you as well?

cheers

Re: [kdenlive] Kdenlive on Twitter

2016-04-22 Thread farid abdelnour
I think it is great to have the official twitter account reactivated. (also
now that Jesse started an official g+ community.)

Whether you like it or not, twitter is a great tool for an official channel
of communication. This can even help out in attracting more devs or at
least spread the word about what is going on with the project. Even the FSF
has one ;P

Hi all,

I would like to make a suggestion for us to organize the meeting by
defining some of the topics here in the mailing list so we can stay focused
on the subject during the cafés.

My topic suggestions are:

- Website (Find a solution)
- What's next (Roadmap)
- Communication Team (Social Networks, Community, News updates (marketing?))

See you there!

Re: [kdenlive] R: Re: Interview Request with Kdenlive Developer

2016-05-09 Thread farid abdelnour
Hi

I really hope that the interview could be at a decent time so that vincent
and maybe jb can attend.

I think the Linux Action Show uses Lightworks for their shows right? What
would it take for them to switch? It would be interesting to here some
input about this.

Cheers

PS
I watch LAS sometimes <3 ;)

[kdenlive] kdenlive deleted /home

2016-05-25 Thread farid abdelnour
Hi guys,

FYI

Over at archlinux we have had two people (one of them me) where after
installing kdenlive-git the /home data gets deleted.

I don't know if this is due to the package of kdenlive at archlinux or
something caused by kdenlive itself (although i doubt it.)

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/kdenlive-git/#news

Cheers

maybe jb can give us a light on this issue.

[kdenlive] website content

2016-06-08 Thread farid abdelnour
Hi guys,

We need to form a team to create new content and screenshots for the new
website... who can help out?

The most important topics to start with are:

-About (history about the project, technologies used, devs, etc...)
-Features (all the current features with screenshots)
-Download (up to date info about packages, distros, etc...)

Unfortunately i wont be able to participate in todays's café but maybe you
could discuss this.

Cheers

hi guys

i posted over at phabricator a call to start the features content for the
website:

How relevant are PPA's now that Snap is launched?

I see that in Shotcut Movit causes a lot of bugs, I think we should wait
until it gets stable or add a warning to users.

Icons are messy still and this should be fixed for 16.08. We need to offer
a similar interface experience across all platforms and between different
distros. A packaging guideline should be established.

What are your views? Snap, Flatpak or both?

That would be a dream come true. I see Natron people have noticed this. Do
you know which EDL stardard they use?

Re: [kdenlive] New feature "force breeze icon theme"... should it be default?

2016-06-27 Thread farid abdelnour
Hi Jesse and all

A bit late but I think this should be enabled by default and also add
breeze icons as a dependency. First because the breeze icons are the
"recommended" way Kdenlive is supposed to look like (If one doesn't like it
he/she have the choice to change it in the settings.) Secondly because not
all icon themes provide all the icons which are in Kdenlive's interface
making it look buggy.

Cheers

Here you'll find the proper usage of the logo:

There is also a modified version for icons.

Notice that the svg version of the logo is available to download.

Greetings

Gonna try to make it.

AFAIK, since this is the last meeting before big release here are some
*suggestions* of topics (of course we could always mark a special meeting
or discuss in the mailing list to-do's etc...):

*Kdenlive 16.08 and beyond

a)Press
-Taskforce to finish content for website
-Taskforce to spread the news on social media and press
-Taskforce to write article about release

b)Stability vs Features
  -Roadmap, How to proceeed?
-Need more devs! How to get them?

*Randa and GSOC

Feel free to change this as you'd like/need.

Cheers

[kdenlive] Press for 16.08

2016-07-13 Thread farid abdelnour
Hi,

I contacted Libre Graphics World and Jupiter Broadcating as a starter.
These days I will eventually contact LWN, Floss Weekly, OMG Ubuntu and
Opensource.com to see if they have interest.

I was thinking on doing some sort of challenge to linux podcasters who edit
using proprietary programs to see what would it take for them to switch to
kdenlive. I proposed this for Jupiter Broadcasting already. What do you
think?

JB, as soon as you can work on those texts it would be great, of course
without sacrificing dev time.

Cheers

[kdenlive] being social

2016-07-26 Thread farid abdelnour
hello,

there was recently an attempt to get the twitter account for kdenlive back
but afaik it didn't go well... we could either try to contact twitter and
ask to get it back or create another one.

over at the g+ community jesse created a community and it is doing fairly
well. :) i would like to ask if possible to put me and dive-o (if he
accepts) as admins as well. is that ok?

another thing that has been on my mind is if we should be on github. the
plus side is that it might make it easier for more devs to join in probably
the bad side (besides being proprietary) is that it would be one more thing
to have to take care of... any thoughts on this?

cheers

[kdenlive] rm .config/kdenliverc

2016-08-04 Thread farid abdelnour
hi

i have seen that many people complain that kdenlive is useless etc because
of an issue with having to remove the .config/kdenliverc file. could we
make it that the 16.08 version does this automatically or could there be a
more elegant solution for this?

Some website pending issues

2016-08-09 Thread farid abdelnour
Hello,

*Features/Discover section

I have tried to put some images in the Features/Discover[1] section based
on content JB put. But honestly I am not very satisfied with how it is
looking so far, would you mind giving me a hand with some images and also
elaborate some sections of the content? (JB, focus on development and we
try to figure it out with Vincent or by ourselves.)

We should also add some text for the 3 point editing feature...

*Download

In the download[2] section the content linked to the wiki is very
outdated[3], I am gonna try to add in the website instructions for
downloading the latest releases kind of how it appears in the old site [4].
The problem is many distros don't offer the latest version... this is
something we have to put up with until the Appimage package is ready, right?

*About

This probably needs some more info about the history of the project.

*News/Blog

The content so far is a placeholder... I am planning a series of interviews
(kind of what Krita does) with some people to share their workflows,
wishlists, etc...

Also I'd like to invite some people to blog (Dive-o I'm looking at you)
about Kdenlive.

That's all for now.

Not yet, I am not very fond of the images I have chosen and the content
could use some more descriptions.

Actually I am gonna put a light screenshot as well to show that there are
theming styles available. What do you think?

Re: Backlog Celebration!

Hi

In regards to the high number of feature requests: feature requests should

Should we mark a special café dedicated only to the bugtracker where we
would evaluate this wishlists to confirm or close? Also there are many open
issues that we can probably close...

hi guys

we need to transfer the dev.kdenlive.org to kdenlive.org and preferably try
to maintain the old website somewhere online for a while.

cheers
