[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1448942] Re: Juniper Network Connect Tun

2016-10-30 Thread Aaron Peromsik
Unfortunately not everyone has access to a new version of the client.
Would be nice if kernel compatibility with previous versions could be
restored.

Title:
  No TRIM via USB

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi,

As USB attached SSDs are becoming quite big and affordable, along comes the
idea of installing systems on these.
But with current USB drivers, some functionality seems to be missing from USB
subsystem.

The system does not recognize it is an SSD, but it is corrected manually:
  # cat /etc/udev/rules.d/10-forcessd.rules
  SUBSYSTEM=="block", ATTRS{vendor}=="SanDisk", ATTRS{model}=="Extreme",
KERNEL=="sd?", ATTR{queue/rotational}="0"

  # cat /sys/block/sdb/queue/rotational
  0

Checked hdparm, it is saying I have TRIM on the device:
  # hdparm -I /dev/sdb

  /dev/sdb:

  ATA device, with non-removable media
   Model Number: SanDisk pSSD
  (...)
  Commands/features:
   Enabled Supported:

  * Data Set Management TRIM supported (limit 8 blocks)
  * Deterministic read ZEROs after TRIM

[5.340783] sd 0:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI disk

From here I'll be using /boot formatted to ext4 to eliminate luks, lvm
  and btrfs from the equasion:

  # mount |grep sdb2
  /dev/sdb2 on /boot type ext4 (rw,noexec,discard)

  # fstrim -v /boot/
fstrim: /boot/: FITRIM ioctl failed: Operation not supported

  # strace fstrim -v /boot/
  (...)
  open("/boot/", O_RDONLY)= 3
  ioctl(3, FITRIM, 0x7fffdded85c0)= -1 EOPNOTSUPP (Operation not
supported)
  (...)

During debugging, I've tried compiling a kernel with UAS module to
check, it booted, system was g changed with the trim - as it wouldn't
  been used at all.

Any ideas why TRIM is not working on USB?
  Any timeframes for possible fix?
  Any workarounds maybe?

2016-10-30 Thread Jean
Hello,

Back to this bug not totally resolved.
I am using this solution https://github.com/kuba-moo/mt7630e
It is working fine for Wifi with Debian Jessie, working partially for BT (I can
send files, but cannot keep a connection).
Owner of a new BT headphone, I tried to connect it unsuccessfully.
I tried the new solution alledgedly fixing the BT issue
https://github.com/neurobin/MT7630E, the "bpatch" included, whithout success
Here is the result of "systemctl status bluetooth" command.

Has anyone an idea ? Has anyone different BT devices fully connected
with the mt7630 and how did he get it ?

Thanks very much for answers.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1490349] Re: 15:10 and 16.04: bluetoothd reports "Not enough handles to register service" at start

2016-10-30 Thread welch
Also experiencing this problem, on a pristine install of ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
(4.4.0-45-generic #66-Ubuntu SMP, BlueZ version 5.37) onto a NUC6i5SYH.

I am doing nothing on the box, just setting it up.
The only packages I've installed are for sshd and bluez.

First run of the bluetooth service worked (well, discovery
worked, though I was unable to successfully connect to
the discovered lenovo edge keyboard).

After reboot, bluetooth service is failing same as others report:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1554613] Re: Screen flickers on XPS 13 9350/9550 (Intel Skylake/Broadwell GPU)

2016-10-30 Thread John Smith
I'm having this same issue on a Dell 7537 running Ubuntu 16.10 (kernel
4.8).

The flickering that occurs is a rapid change in the brightness of the screen,
in a random, persistently manner (it never stops).
Not so often the screen goes all white and quickly returns to normal.

It's interesting to mention that on Ubuntu 16.04 (kernel 4.4) the bug
appears to be fixed, as the flickering does not occur.

As result you might have upgraded Linux META packages and therefor you won't

  I suggest you move
/etc/preferences.d/canonical-kernel-team-ubuntu-ppa-yakkety to
/etc/apt/preferences.d/ and downgrade related packages:

Title:
Asus K556UB-XX115D Elan Touchpad works only AFTER suspend

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
After login, the touchpad is detected and shown in xinput --list and
in /proc/bus/input/devices. But any movements or clicks are not
  detected.

The really weird part is that the touchpad STARTS working after waking
  from suspend.

The touchpad works flawlessly in Windows 10 (didn't work in Windows
7), and external mice also work in both Ubuntu and Windows. The
problem happens in Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 14.04 didn't detect the
touchpad at all in xinput and /proc/bus/input/devices.

I have tried several GRUB command line parameters that I've seen
recommended on the internet, such as i8042.reset=1 i8042.nomux=1
i8042.noloop=1 psmouse.proto=bare, but none of them changed anything
the touchpad didn't work when the system boots up, but it starts
  working after suspend.

I've attached the outputs from xinput --list, /proc/bus/input/devices and
synclient.
The outputs don't change when I suspend and wake up the computer, the list of
modules in lsmod also doesn't change.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1637849] [NEW] Wireless network does not appear on network manager

2016-10-30 Thread awi
Public bug reported:

After kernel upgrade to 4.4.0-45-generic, Wireless network does not apper on
network manager.
It does remember networks already in the list, and does connect, but the icon
showed is not the one for wifi. Network manager shows the icon as if it were
connected to a LAN network.
Rolling back to linux-image-4.4.0-31-generic is a temporally workaround that
solves the issue.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1612762] Re: Asus K556UB-XX115D Elan Touchpad works only AFTER suspend

2016-10-30 Thread jakub
Hello, I had Ubuntu 16.06 installed on the same laptop ASUS X556UB and
everything worked very well. It was a clean installation. Unfortunatelly
I reinstalled it and now I have dualboot Debian 8 Jesie with Windows 10
on the same HDD. On Win there is no problem verything works normally.

On Debian I have very similiar problem with touchpad. It does not work
at all. Not even after suspend because laptop will not start after
suspend so I deactivated it (I had this problem on Ubuntu, too).

Plus there is also nothing like brightness adjustment, but it is
probably some missing driver I am not able to find.

I am sorry if I interupted, this is the first time I wrote to discusion.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1618550] Re: [HP 15-r085no Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)] Suspend/resume freezes

2016-10-30 Thread Arto Makkonen
Tested with mainline kernel 4.9-rc3 and the bug still exists.

Like discussed on Sep 9 in this same thread, creating the kernel resume
trace file fails

$ sudo sh -c "sync && echo 1 > /sys/power/pm_trace && pm-suspend"
sh: 1: cannot create /sys/power/pm_trace: Permission denied

Please help me solve the "Permission denied" error to enable tracing in
steps 3.-10.

Title:
[HP 15-r085no Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)] Suspend/resume freezes

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
My HP notebook won't wake from suspend with 16.04 LTS, waited for the
latest 4.4.0-36 kernel update before reporting this bug. Computer goes
to suspend, but attempts to wake it up just start the fan (and HDD)
  while the display remains black.

Also tested this with the mainline upstream kernel
4.8.0-040800rc3-generic. With this version there was different
behaviour but still a bug: the display woke up but Ubuntu was very
unstable, did not connect to Wifi and the GUI froze very soon after
  resume.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1437913] Re: 8086:095b [Lenovo ThinkPad X250] Wifi unstable on vivid with Intel 7265

2016-10-30 Thread Steven H
Also having this same problem, with HP Envy 15
01:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 7265 (rev 61)

Using latest firmware. Connection drops after a while of use, pages just
stop loading, no indication the connection has dropped. Disabling and
enabling the wifi fixes the issue.

Bug description:
After upgrading from utopic to vivid beta, wifi on the Intel 7265 on my
Thinkpad X250 has become unstable (linux-image 3.19.0-10.10, linux-firmware
1.143):
03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Wireless 7265
[8086:095b] (rev 59)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 [8086:5210]

  I'm seeing two primary problems:
   * On 5GHz 802.11ac, I'll get DEAUTH_LEAVING almost exactly every minute,
followed by an immediate reconnect.
   * On both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, all network activity will cease after 10-20
minutes. A manual reconnect will temporarily fix network activity.

This is complicated by the fact that the newer firmware requires
kernel 3.19 and kernel 3.19 requires the iwlwifi-7265D*.ucode firmware
instead of the old iwlwifi-7265*.ucode firmware, so it's not possible
  to mix/match older/newer kernel/firmware combinations, nor do a kernel
  bisect.

FAOD, the latest utopic kernel/firmware combination (linux-image
3.16.0-33.44, linux-firmware 1.138.1) works fine, which I can use in
vivid if I manually install them.

  I have tested ~kernel-ppa/mainline 3.19.3-031903.201503261036 and
4.0.0-04rc5.201503230035, which exhibit the same problems.
