KR> what to keep,,how serious are you about flying?
I met my wife on the way to a flyin,,,right off,,she knew what I was all about. You guess who I'd keep if my plane became an issue. My highschool sweetheart told me it was her or flying way back in 1991,,,I havn't seen her since. LOL,,,the truth!! Coda - Do you Yahoo!? Everyone is raving about the all-new Yahoo! Mail.
KR> landing a taildragger
I grew up watching, in my opinion, the best pilot's in the world. Crop duster pilot's. I think they land, sometime's, on the roughest and crooked runway's. In watching them for year's,,,I could tell that there wasn't really a right or wrong way to land a taildragger. It was a matter of preference. Unless it was a short strip requiring a 3 point landing (dragging it in), usually it was a two point landing,,but still, there were pilot's who did 3 point landing's. If you asked them (which I did) what or why, it was alway's a different answer, stemming from, a two point landing on a rough field was harder on the plane, to a two point landing being easier, or a two point landing being harder. No two pilot's did it alike. Funny thing is,,they were all incredible pilots. IN all of the year's of watching these guy's land duster's from the loader truck,,I"ve never seen one groundlooped. They all say they got that out of their system way back. LOLhappy flying, Coda - All-new Yahoo! Mail - Fire up a more powerful email and get things done faster.

KR> Geo engine installation
Okay, i have a Geo metro with a raven gear drive reduction. I think it put's out around 90 hp. What is ya'lls thought's? I'm thinking of putting it on my KR-2. Think it'll do the trick? Coda - Do you Yahoo!? Get on board. You're invited to try the new Yahoo! Mail Beta.
KR> kr stuff
I have a KR-2 tri that I'm going to put back into the air. I'm wondering about a sliding canopy. Anyone had any lead's or perhap's have one collecting dust that they'd like to sell or even donate? I'm also looking for a turnkey engine possibly. Coda - Do you Yahoo!? Get on board. You're invited to try the new Yahoo! Mail Beta.
KR> kr' n junk
I'm so glad I live in the country. Gotta have a place to store that old corvair till the engine's out. (finally out last week) My runway is now a horse pasture, my plane's have required more than 800ft. of runway, so now I have methane producer's mowing my field. Hard to throw away "good stuff". KR> engine cost's
I have been following this group for a while, and admire what goes on in exp. aviation. Hearing the stories, the work, and adventure that come's out of KR'N, make's me wanna get mine going that much quicker. I have a corvair engine, out of a car. It's going to need the full "whammy" to get it in aircraft order. I see other's putting VW's in their plane's. My question is, how much on average does one spend building a VW or a corvair. From what I've seen and heard, isn't a good used 85 or 100 hp cont. a better value? Just covering my options. Coda - Do you Yahoo!? Next-gen email? Have it all with the all-new Yahoo! Mail Beta.
KR> corvair engine
I have a KR-2 with tri gear,,no engine,,,was thinking about engine option's. Just happen's I have a corvair with engine still in the car in my pasture. Hasn't been started in 10 year's, but I tied a chain to it,,have my wife pull me behind the truck,,and I popped the clutch,,it started turning over,,and I watched as the oil pressure gauge kicked right up to 40 psi. I have not tried to start it,,and am in fact pulling it as we speak. I am wondering what kind of motor mount I'd need to mount the corvair engine on the KR,,and what I'm needing to do to get the weight and balance right. It's not a stretch,,,it's the standard KR-2. This has probably been covered in archives,,,so if someone is willing to lead me in the right direction, i'd be thankful of the help. Also,,anyone tell me how to recertify this bird,,,it' was flying in the 90's,,but was sold and decertified by the owner. Thank's for any info I can get. Coda Riley Poteau, Okla. KR> kr-2 parts
I have a KR-2,,,no engine or prop (no firewall forward). I already have a cowling on it,,,I think it fit's VW engine's. Will it fit a corvair engine or do I have to get a longer cowling. If that's the case,,,I'd swap this corvair engine for a VW engine of 1835 or larger. I weigh 240lbs,,,so is this KR going to be a glorified single place, or will I be able to take smaller people? I want to keep it light,,and simple. Very basic VFR panel,,not the kitchen sink like some exp.'s I've seen in the past. My need's are very basic,,,hand held GPS is plentiful for me. I dont' plan on trip's over 400 mile's,,and those would be only several time's a year,,mostly local 50 mile run's max. I have a canopy on it ,,,but I'd like something with more "bubble,,and the tank is aluminum, and I think it feel's like it weigh's 50 lbs,,very heavy. The panel covering the tank is aluminum,,and I'd like to change it to fiberglass,,,keeping it removable like this aluminum panel. My need's are quite simple,,just needing engine, prop, and some "attaboy's" to keep me motivated and on my way. Is there any KR's flying around the Fort Smith, Arkansas area? I think that will also motivate me. OH yea,,one more thing,,,is there a KR-2 out there that would get me up as a passenger? If not,,how much do I need to lose? LOLI've been flying ultra's and cessnas',,,and owned and flown the vp-1,,,and a fisher youngster. How does the handling of a KR-2 compare to a 172, vp-1,,fisher youngster,,, Mine is a tri gear,,so I know I have an advantage to the tricky handling. KR> engine outs
I was reading the engine out advice and granted,,,practice help's ,,but we have to keep in mind,,the windmilling prop of an idling engine is going to decrease your glide ratio,,so for the stopped prop,,,you might overshoot your intended touchdown by quite a bit. In flying ultralight's and exp. aircraft over the year's, I can attest to that first hand. Just my two bit's. Also,,in describing the handling of the KR-2,,,I know from different pilot's,,one's going to come away with different description's. I have time in mooneys, grummans, and even a long easy. Aside from being overly pitch sensitive,,,it was an awesome bird to fly. I hear that might describe a KR-2. Coda - Sneak preview the all-new Yahoo.com. It's not radically different. KR> engine outs
I know my VW stopped as well after quitting,,because of high compression and short prop,,,same as ultralight's,,two cycle engine's with reduction drive,,and low speed stop's the prop,,,I was implying practicing dead stick landing's with pulling throttle,,therefore, the prop is still spinning. Just my two cent's, but not applying to the KR-2,,then windmilling props during deadstick practice would be accurate. Coda Mark Langfordwrote: I did a flight test in my KR2S a few weeks ago to check the facts on windmilling props and glide ratio. Two tests from 10,000' (one with engine on, one with it off) proved to me that there is no appreciable difference in glide rate between engine idling and engine off. Engine off in a VW or Corvair engine mean the prop is stopped, rather than windmilling, so that may be the difference in KR "real world" and "conventional wisdom". Short props and high compression ratios keep the prop from windmilling when the engine is off. I did these tests because I wanted to know what my real glide rate was (13.5:1 in present configuration) and because I wanted to know if my glide rate would improve with the engine off.
