KR> Selling out

2014-10-09 Thread Robert Boyd
Guys, with the recent changes in my life I am dropping my asking price to
$3,500.00 for BOTH of my KR projects. Both are in the boat stage, one
single the other double seat. Tails on both are complete. All spars are
done and the wings for the single are about 50% done. Header tank for the
single is done. Too much to list.
If interested in making an offer please contact me off list for Pics.

KR> Airfoil

2014-07-22 Thread Robert Boyd
I just purchased a KR2 project from a friend in hopes of using parts on my
KR2s that I have been working on for a while. He has narrowed the fuselage
a little for a single seat version. I have a question. He has a lot done on
the wings. Both outer wings have the top foam in place and sanded to
contour. Only thing left to do is the bottom foam, some more sanding and
then the glass. Appears to be the RAF48, The center spars on my bird are
done and have been shaped for the 5046 airfoil i believe. What would be the
chances of completing his outer wings and mating them up to my center spars?

Also, I am considering selling this new fuselage if anyone is interested.
It is set up as single seat, tail is pretty much done, a lot has been done
on the controls and cables, center spars are done, it has the main gear,
wheels/tires and tail wheel. If anyone is interested in making me an offer
on it please contact me off list at iflyexp at gmail.com or 740-504-2692
I would be happy to send pics if you like.

KR> I joined my local EAA chapter

2014-01-03 Thread Robert Boyd
I thought I'd chime in on this one. I also am a past president of an EAA
chapter here in Ohio and found that it is true, you get out of it what you
put into it. However, I also have come to an opinion that EAA, or at least
a lot of its chapters, have become more AOPA. There is very little E in
most EAA chapters these days. At least that is what I have been finding and
is only my opinion. When trying to put some "E"-experimental, back into
our meetings it appeared that the majority of the members were not
interested and couldn't wait to get back on the subject of Young Eagles,
the next Pancake Breakfast or who is going to bring the buns to the next
meeting for the burgers. I know for fact there are several builders in my
chapter who never attend meetings for exactly that reason, there is no more
(E)experimental in the meetings.
OK enough of that, now does anyone have a tail wheel assembly for sale

KR> New to the list

2012-01-10 Thread Robert Boyd
Hi, I'm Bob and am new to the group. I am looking at purchasing a KR2S
project from a friend who is getting out. At 85 he decided to just
enjoy the rest of life going up for rides.
He is in the boat stage and my question is this, the width of his
fuselage is approximately 36inches between the upper longerons at the
widest point. Is there any way to split the boat and widen it to about
42 inches? My fear is weakening the whole thing.
Thanks
Bob

Subject: KR> Seat Harness Attachment

Friday 7/15 a two-place glider N7475 crashed in a big tree attempting to
get
to the runway at K2W6. On impact the pilot was ejected from the glider
going through the instrument panel, windshield and canopy, then falling
about 50 feet to the ground. The pilot was killed apparently by
multiple
blunt force trauma. The pilot's seatbelt and shoulder harness bolts
ripped
out of the wooden structure of the glider. Wood remnants remaining on
the
bolts looked to be dry-rotted. The passenger survived, suffering lower
back
pain. His harness remained intact, but showed numerous cracks in the
lumber
at the bolt attachment points. The fire department retrieved the
passenger
from the glider using their tower ladder truck.
http://thebaynet.com/news/index.cfm/fa/viewstory/story_ID/23184
The glider was reported to be 43 years old and had been stored outside
and
also in a trailer.
All KR aircraft have their seat belts and shoulder harness attached to
wooden structure in the aircraft. It seems prudent to me that builders
and
owners would pay close attention to how the bolt anchor attachments are
made
and the soundness of the lumber during annual condition inspections.
