KR> Kr for sale
Hi all, I have a KR-2 for sale, it was a flying plane in the test phase, then had a hard landing and now needs a few minor repairs along with finishing the engine. it has a tri gear and the engine is a VW 1800 greatplanes conversion done at the factory. and is brand new because the old engine had a prop strike and as shot, so a new engine. I also have an extra upper and lower KR-2 cowling I don't have pictures posted yet but if there is intrest I will try to post some somewhere. Or I can try to email pictures ? the plane is located in California near Sacramento and I'm going to ask $6,500.00 but I'm open to offers ?. If anyone is intrested contact me off the net at "bobbycrea...@yahoo.com " and I might be able to email pictures. I picked up the plane thinking I could finnish it and fly it, and I really don't think it will take much to get it flying but I just don't have the time to work on it or the place to keep it. so I think before it gets wrecked sitting out I should move it along. thanks Bobby

HI, If you have space at home or sometimes the airport will allow, you can rent one of thoes 20 foot storage containers for about 60.00 to 80.00 per month and pull the wings and keep it in there for the winter months. My current plans are for 16x20. > > Thank You > John > Hi John, If you have the space and resources to make the shop a little larger I would do it. Think about trying to work on your plane with the door closed in bad weather ? The original KR2 has a length of 14'6" and that doesn't leave much space to get around the front or back of the aircraft in a 16' shop and with a wingspan of 20'8" your 20 foot width won't allow you mount the wings or wing spars for construction inside the shop so every time you want to work on it you will have to pull it out mount the wings then take the wings and put it all away and only in good weather. If I were building new construction and had the space and resources I would build my shop to be at least 25 foot wide and 20 foot in length, remember that you need space for the door frame also, and that way I wouldn't have to crawal under the wings every time I want to get from front to back of the shop. Actually I ended up using a adjustable ladder placed over the wings to get from the front to the rear of the shop but its a little unstable espically when your hands are full of parts and tools. The TSA wants EVERYONE to get a background check !!. follow the link below "The directive appear to apply to users of airports that have scheduled air carrier service, even if only a single scheduled arrival or departure. KR> EBay Fraudulent KR2S Plans DVD
We can report this person to eBay but it most likely won't do any good since eBay has a policy that it has to be the copyright holder with proof who reports the fraud before they will remove the auction. But if enough people write to eBay and the eBay seller he might remove his auction. The bigger problem is that the person selling on eBay bought their original CD of plans from another company, "Masterplans" with "full resale rights" to all the plans on the disk. There are several companies mostly in china, that are selling these CD's with "full resale rights". The purchasers of the CD's usually know very little if anything about aircraft they are just trying to make a few extra dollars in the resale business. The bigger companies know better and just about as soon as someone tracks them down they disappear from the net, then start again later under a new name. Its just almost imposable to catch them or stop them. Bobby Burington California KR2 Builder

--- On Mon, 2/9/09, Oscar Zuniga <taildr...@hotmail.com> wrote: > Question for you electronics types. One of our office UPSs > died and I snagged it on its way out to the trash. Hi Oscar, Yes it will make a trickle charger for any size battery. I have salvaged several of the UPS units you are talking about. Generally its not the batteries that go bad and you can put thoes small batteries on a regular 12 volt charger and recharge them. Normally for me its been the circut board that goes bad from power surges or whatever. Sometimes you will find a small fuse soldered somewhere on the power supply board or power supply side of the main board. If you can solder in a new fuse you might be in business. These are not only a trickle charger for batteries but the supply from the batteries is a 12 volt to 110 converter for the duplex outlets. I took one of the units apart, disconnected the wires from the batteries and then connected it back up to the battery in my truck. Leaving the circut boards and 110 outlets intact. Made a great 110 converter for my truck. I have been thinking this arrangement would also give me a really cheap way to put a 110 outlet on the panel or somewhere in the KR that I could plug in a laptop or other type equipment if I needed to and the weight is small ounces. Hi KR Netters, I have been thinking about the idea of using an electric motor in the KR2, I haven't been able to come up with much information even though I know these type of power plants are out there. Has anyone worked with the idea of using an electric motor in the KR2 ?. Or would anyone have any good idea of where to start looking ?. Thanks Bobby Burington CAlifornia KR Builder

I contacted the seller of the KR drawings on ebay, and he is in Russia and bought resale rights and is just selling the link address to another Russian site that has coppied a great many of the popular homebuilt aircraft drawings into a full size PDF format. This site is selling the drawings and plans of the KR and many others. here is the link for all who would like http://stroimsamolet.ru/drawings.php The KR is listed about 2/3 down on the list on the left side of the web page. KR> wing airfoil shape
Hi to all, I have discovered a small problem with one of the wings on this plane project I have sort of inherited , the rear spar is about 3/16 shy of what is called for in the plans and the airfoil is slightly misshapen because of this. This condition only goes out to the second rib, after that everything looks to smooth out nicely . I wouldn't think that 3/16 off the spar would be cause structural concern, of corse I'm not an enginer either so I really don't know, but it looks ugly and I'm sure will change the airflow so I do need to fix it. I am thinking I can glue down a layer of foam and shape that to the proper shape of the wing and glass over the whole thing and smooth it all out. any thoughts ?. Thanks Robert __ Do You Yahoo!? Hello Mark, thanks for the input , I have posted some pictures of the wing. its kind of hard to see how bad the distortion is from the pictures but I tried. here's the link http://bobskr.white.prohosting.com/ the wing already has a thin skin of fiberglass over it so if I do as you suggest I will have to sand down to the spar, then glue in a new piece of wood over the spar cap then re-glass the wing skin. ?. Then will it hurt to make the new Spar cap a little wider so the old skn will lay over it when re-glasing ?. Thanks Robert bobby burington wrote: > I have discovered a small problem with one of the wings on this plane > project I have sort of inherited , the rear spar is about 3/16 shy of what > is called for in the plans and the airfoil is slightly misshapen because > of this. If you are saying that the spar is not tall enough, you need to use T-88 or some other suitable epoxy to glue some more wood on top of the spars, rather than use foam to make up the difference to get to the airfoil profile. The skin's connection to the rest of the plane is done through the spar cap, and foam cannot support the load (it is structurally "useless"). - Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? KR> Glue Joints not holding
Hey there, I have brand new System Three , T-88 , from Aircraft Spruce and has been in the house for about a month and I just opened it last night and tried it out. for a test I cut a 1 1/2 inch peice of 5/8 stock and a 2x3 inch of ply skin. The two parts of T-88 are just like yours , one part clear and one part amber before mixing and a milky , off white , very slightly yellowish color after mixing the two as per instructions. Slightly thicker than honey. I glued the 5/8 stock to the ply and used small spring clamps to hold. this morning I checked it and the color of the T-88 that squezed out of the glue joint has changed back to a clear amber color , so I grabed the pliers and clamped on to the two parts and tried to pull the joint apart. The joint was solid and all I could do was to rip the ply away from the edge of the joint leaving a 5/8 stock with a ply skin still glued on one side. no way is the joint comming apart. Tonight I will try end or but joints with the 5/8 stock, with and without gussets and I will let you know the results of that tomarrow. Robert Brad Paynewrote: To Clarify, After Mixing, my T88 is a milky off-white almost like toothpaste. The viscosity is like thick honey. Prior to mixing the resin is clear and thick and the hardner is the color of honey and slightly more fluid than the resin. Sometimes it becomes slightly warm while mixing or very shortly after. What color is your T88 after mixing? Thanks! KR> Glue Joints not holding
Hello Brad, Well my tests are done and I'm satisfied with the results. I did try mixing the two parts different ways but even mixing on a hard plastic surface with a plastic stir stick, as soon as the two parts mix together they do turn a milky, slightly yellowish color. Mix fast or slow always the same. After about an hour or two the color changes back to the clear amber. The new epoxy results were always the same , and the amber colored hardener is definitely thicker than the clear resin. As far as the bond strength, even the butt joint with no gusset, I had to use a lot of force to break apart and though it did separate at the joint, it was the surrounding wood that gave way, the actual glue bond never separated. With any type of gusset, it wasn't coming apart with out considerable damage to the wood surrounding the joint. And this is all the day after it was glued, the epoxy will get stronger as it cures over the next few days. I am glad I did these tests , I will have a lot more confidence riding around at 10,000 feet in an airplane that is only glued together. So maybe your wood was contaminated in some way ? , have you tried gluing a couple of old 2x4's or some other wood than the spruce together ?, and if the hardener is thinner than the resin, maybe the hardener could be bad ?. If that's the case, contact the company and they will probably send you some new epoxy. Robert Brad Paynewrote: To Clarify, After Mixing, my T88 is a milky off-white almost like toothpaste. KR> Spruce vs Douglas Fir
Hello Jeff, I actually milled my own lumber for my plane. I live in the middle of a national forest and I am lucky enough to have a neighbor down the road with a large saw mill. So we picked logs with a good grain and he rough cut the logs to lumber size plus a little, then I stacked and dried the lumber and then I milled it to the exact size I wanted. I was able to pick the most premimum boards with the right grain for building the plane. heres a good EAA article with info and reference to mil spec bulletins that would be good to get. http://www.eaa.org/benefits/sportaviation/octbuilding.html ... I also have a cd with a lot of good info on wood types and uses along with a lot of other construction information and I'd be happy to send a copy of it to you'd like, just let me know your mailing address. There is an eaiser way, I have also been checking the local lumber store down the hill and if you pick through their best kiln dried, straight grained clear (no knots or flaws), lumber stock, they have a lot of useable quality doug fir lumber that meets specs. Ron I'm with you, this argument belongs somewhere else, and Nick , if you would like, I have an extra set of plans that I would be happy to mail to you to start looking over and get started, if you agree to return them when your set gets there. send an email to my own email address with your postal mailing address if you want me to mail them. I have my own set that I am working from, milled every part of lumber and most all of the metal parts totally from scratch myself. It is a fun project. Robert Ronald Wrightwrote: Suggest you take this argument off=list.. The gentleman was only airing his disgust with the way RR was handling the situation.. Telling someone they are going to go in the mail today PRIORITY MAIL and 11 days later still no plans; seems like he has a very good beef with RR.. Why are you guys trying to run off someone who wants to build the KR?? Congratulations !!, and happy flying, I'm still building and looking foward to the day !. Piet and I took off on runway 11, left out, reached circuit altitude on late crosswind and all of this at a gross of 1350lbs. We flew overhead the field for 43 minutes. I made some steep turns, dive and pitch recovery and Piet threw some yaws my way by playing with the rudder. I managed to control everything he threw my way. To end the exercise, I had 10 minutes of fun flying. Our next flight is on Tuesday morning. I can't wait. YEEHA!
