KR> KR for sale

2016-06-19 Thread laser147 at juno.com
Looks like a good one. Parts for the Limbach will cost a fortune but
hopefully the buyer won't need any. With 300 hours on it, registered,
looks nice in the picture. Even at asking price you can't build one for
three times that plus saves a lot of work - good deal for somebody.

My 2700CC Corvair engine built by Roy with his front bearing and set to zero
time by Roy last November. It is still at zero time because it has been
patiently awaiting another plane to fly. However, I need to part with it
and all the goodies that go with it for $10,500.

By all the goodies, I mean just about everything you need to put it on your
mount and fly away, including the prop, but no exhaust. It has most of the
WW gold parts and the black hub and a ring gear that was built by someone
else. It has a new starter, never used, and a rear mounted JD dynamo
(alternator).

I had previously reported that I would need to add 49 pounds ballast at the
engine area to meet my goal of moving the cg 3 inches forward on my KR-2 .
I had reported some erroneous numbers for the weight and location of the
elevator balance weight.? The correct numbers are 4.71 pounds with an arm of
95 inches.? The nose ballast location is still 23 inches forward of the stub
wing leading edge.? Doing the math: 4.71 x 95 / 23 = 19.45 pounds ballast.
By removing the elevator balance weight with its mounting and bolts, I will
not need that 19.45 pounds of ballast in the nose.
For the ELT move from the baggage shelf to the cockpit floor forward of the
spar: The ELT with batteries and rack weighs 3.5 pound.? The arm at the
baggage shelf is centered at 60 inches.? The new location is centered at 0
inches arm.? No weight loss with moving the ELT, but the previously needed
ballast would be 3.5 x 60 / 23 = 9.1 pounds, now no longer needed.
With the removal of the elevator balance weight and move of the ELT, the
current ballast is now: 49 - 19.45 - 9.1 = 20.45 pounds.

A pound or two at long moment arms does make a big difference.

I did a check on the registration and see that you are in or near Ft
Worth - I have a son living
in NE Dallas area, not that far from where the plane is (I guess). I do
visit him now and then, so could trailer
it but the prospect of dragging a trailer that far isn't very thrilling
to this old man ... but that beats trusting
a 20 year old prop reduction drive belt, if it is the original belt!
/*Maybe can talk him into trailering it for me.*//*
*//**/
Wonder what is making that bird so heavy? Do you think it is the Subaru
installation, or something else?
Even with that engine it seems that should not be that terribly overweight.

While I have owned and flown a homebuilt before (Starduster Too), I
have not bought any plane without logs or
the original airworthiness limitation papers, so have no idea what that
would do to trying to make it legal again once
it was fixed up and flyable. If you have any idea, please pass that
info along.

More questions:
Were the cowl, spinner and wheel pants damaged or just dinged up
over time?
Assuming you have personally flown it more than once, what is your
honest opinion of it as
regards handling and speeds? Does the weight make things hairy?
You mentioned the landing speed, but is it slow in the air as well?
Any odd behavior or worrying habits?
Too sensitive controls?
Does is have a comm radio and transponder with mode C? If so,
what make and model are they? Maybe a picture of the panel
would help.
I'm an old guy, so could you help load it on a trailer?
What width and length trailer would it take, considering wheel
wells might be in the way?

I found a couple more pictures of it online, from when it was fairly new
back in the late 90's. It certainly looked very
nice then, and appears to have been a product of quality work - which
again makes me wonder why it is heavy. It
looks very slick, so could it be lots of filler and finishing, maybe?
You may have already had conversations with
Les about that, and if so then he should have had a pretty good idea, I
would think.

One note under a picture said that it has wing tanks - or maybe it was
center section tanks - but nothing said
about a fuselage header tank being present or not. That info would be
helpful, plus the total fuel capacity.

I will wait for some current pictures, if you would not mind passing
them along.

Thanks again for the quick response and information.

George

KR> KR for sale (retractable gear)

2015-04-07 Thread Parley T Byington
List-Post: krnet@list.krnet.org
Date: Apr.7,2015
Subject: original or-2 retractable landing gear modifications

Mike;

I am the owner of N54PB here in Henderson Nevada. I too had problems with the
original design of the retractable landing gear as per the plans supplied by
Rand Robinson. The following information is furnished as to how I solved the
problems;

Dec. 7, 1991 the first flight of N54PB from the Eldorado dry Lake south west of
Boulder City Nevada. First flight went fairly well, a little pip, and early
take off while doing high speed taxi test due to an unforeseen hole someone had
dug in the dry lake in my path. Landing on the dry lake was uneventful.
Second flight same day, landed at Boulder City airport runway 090 due to high
gusty winds, had to go around four times but finally was able to touch down on
the fourth try but thats when the trouble started. When the right gear touched
the runway the whole assembly i.e.. gear leg, wheel, and brake lines came off.
This caused the left gear to twist off and come up through the left stub wing,
in the process of running the prop and doing lots of damage to the belly of the
aircraft. Cause was later found to be to small of gear attach bolts as per the
plans, they were AN3 bolts (3/16 diameter) these bolts are way to small for the
loads. A friend of mine, Ken Mintz, owner builder of N86KM (Vari-Eze and an A
and P) sent in a notification of defect to the FAA identifying the defect, this
was after we verified that the plans were in error. I installed a thicker
spring bar, went from 3/4 to 1? spring bar and AN5 bolts to attach the landing
gear legs to the spring bar. This modification solved the initial landing gear
failure.
Apr.8,1998 flew out over the Amorgossa Valley, North West of Las Vegas, and
back to Boulder City Nevada. Started practicing touch and go landings, wind
completely calm. I was attempting to find the perfect three point landing
speed by slowing down 5 mph per round until I found it. The last approach I
was slightly slow and the tail wheel touched down first resulting in a very
slight bounce of the mains, I added a little power and finished the landing as
a wheel landing, tail up. upon rolling out and as I applied the brakes prior
to crossing runway 27, the gear suddenly retracted into the wheel wells. The
engine was still running with a greatly reduced prop length, the aircraft
rolled to a stop on the wheels (retracted) and the air intake of the engine
cowling. Cause, the Rand Robinson gear lock design allowed the locks to pop up
even with double down lock springs and when the brakes were applied the locks
slipped off the little aluminum box on top of the spring bar. Solution to this
problem was to redesign the gear locks to ensure no more problems like this
occur again. The new gear lock consists of a steal arch attached to the main
spar, using the center hinge mounting bolts, and the other end is attached to
the floor. The arch has a half inch hole at the top and the bottom of the
arch, this hole is for a half inch steal pin that goes through the hole to hold
the gear down in the down position and hold it up when retracted. The pin is
attached to the spring bar and is spring loaded to push the pin through the
holes when lined up in which ever position the pilot is moving the gear to.
The pin assembly mounted to the spring bar arches as the gear is moved and
aligns with the steal arch and its corresponding half inch holes.
These two modifications were done to my KR-2 and everything else is pretty much
exactly to the original plans, however I have made my bird into a single place
bird due to keeping the gross weight down below 1150 lbs, me 200 lbs, 20 + 20
gal fuel, 1835 turbo charged VW.

Hope this information is helpful, if you need more info or drawings, contact me
off site at my address below.

My first KR had the retractable gear and held up fine to some really bad
landings when I was learning to fly it, so I know it's possible to
construct the retractable gear in such a way that it won't collapse. The
builder of my first KR, Harold Sigenfield (Siggy) was a retired Convair
engineer and whatever he did to strengthen the gear must have worked. I
do know he used a heavier spring bar than the plans called for.

There must be some good information in the early KR newsletters about how
to strengthen the retractable gear design. That's such a shame after all
the work involved in building to have a gear collapse while taxiing with
resultant prop and engine damage.

The KR in flight with gear retracted just "looks" right. I've never
quite gotten used to the looks of fixed-gear KR's, even though I now have
one. My retractable gear had covers attached or built into the gear legs
which covered the wheels when retracted, reducing drag, and which acted
as speed brakes when extended. That was a beautiful KR - N37751. The
fellow I sold it to ran it off the end of the runway at Rialto doing
"high speed taxi texts" even though I had advised very strongly against
it. Going through KR accident reports I've seen several, at least one
fatal, resulting from doing high speed taxi tests. Anyway, enough on
that subject. Please go through the KR newsletters and maybe even KRNET
forums regarding retractable gear mods. I'm sure there's plenty of
information on the subject since it was a common problem. It can be
done right so good luck doing some research.

2015-04-05 Thread Gabriele Morino
Dear Kelly,
I?m Sorry, that you don?t want to fly and sorry, that this mail isn?t a buying
offer for you KR.

I just finished KR-2 and received the Airworthiness certificate. I have the
original landing gear.Tell me please, which bolts collapsed, wheel center or at
the spring bar or else?
Which bulletin (you mean surely the "News Letter")shall I look in?
Which gear(retractable?)did John Schaffer use??? before my gear collapse.

My gear retracted while taxi run, in Oct., the prop was broken and the
crankshaft got off center,I`m waiting for the engine done next week, so, I am
desparate to avoid another collapse!!!

It would be a great help, if you would give me these answer, or anything else,
many thanks!!

Maybe it is because airplane have vented tanks and quick drains while cars
have closed fuel systems.? Most gas cans also have tight fitting caps.

Same logic that my homeowners insurance used when they could care less
if my garage attached to my house and next to my bedroom had two cars
and a riding mower with gas and all the gas cans I wanted, but they
refused to insure my hanger separate from the house because it contained
an airplane.? Makes no difference that the cars can be 50 years old with
rusting steel tanks and the plane is inspected regularly to FAA
standards.

So, that begs the question, why is 200 gallons of fuel stored in the
tanks
of an airplane more save than 20 gallons of fuel stored in approved
containers that are completely sealed?

I rented my second one to a guy with a Cessna 210. He told me one day
that
he'd lost 19 gallons of 100LL out of the wing tank and onto the floor of
the
hangar about a week earlier. Apparently his petcock failed somehow and
drained one wing tank.

Very well done cowl that I can't bear to cut up to make my Lycoming cowl. I was

if you close I can throw it in the Super Colt and fly it to you for gas money.
I could also get it to Oshkosh if that works better.

Revmaster Engine from when they were at Chino Airport. Top cowling is cracked.
3 blade prop, missing the hub. Wings appear to be OK. Simple VFR, No Radios,
has antenna's in the turtle deck, Sling seats, retractable mains with drum
brakes & tail wheel. Most of it is there but needs significant work to be made
airworthy. Hopefully someone can save this bird. The owner wants $2500 firm

Subject: My KR

Hi Mark,
I have lately been giving some thought to departing with the KR. I had tried
to submit the lower portion of this E-mail to the KR net, but I'm not sure that
I was successful. I'm not sure that I have been updating myself with the
list. I have not tried to place the plane on Barnstormers or any where else.
I was thinking that I might try getting some input from the net first to see
what it's worth. Here is what I tried to submit. If you like, or if you
can, you can reconnect me. If not, perhaps you can see to it that this gets
posted

Hello to everyone on the net. As I remember Fridays are the for sale days. I
have pondered selling my KR for a few years now. http://www.kr-2.orobbins.com/.
I have not flown Tweety in 6 years. It makes me sad to even think about it. But
It has sat in the back yard for a few years and if I don't find it a good home
soon, time and elements will destroy it. We had a lot of fun and made a lot of
friends in the KR community. There have always been slicker, prettier, faster
KR's out there, but since our first flight in 1985, it was always a blast.

She needs some work to get back in the air. Those who know me probably remember
that my cam gear failed on the way home from the gathering in 05. I never
completed the reassembly of the engine and it still sits on top of my work
bench. The fuselage is outside and the wings are in my work room. I'm sure a
few interesting creatures have taken up living in the fuselage. It's still
fully equipped.

I really can't afford to throw money into the sky on my SS income. This is only
a half hearted effort at selling the KR, perhaps just to test the interest of
others and determine it's value AS IS.

I have collected over 1400 e-mails in the past few years and did a search to
see who was selling what and for how much. Anyone with any interest in a
restorable KR should go to my web site and see the plane. I won't give it away,
so don't ask or insult me with any ridiculous offers.I can be reached at

KR> For Sale KR 1.5

2011-09-21 Thread Tim & Gail McKenna
I am the original owner/builder. Ideally, I would like to sell it only for
display/show purposes with or without the engine. If not for display, then
being sold for parts. It is NOT being sold for flying. I will consider all
offers on parts or as whole.

Experimental 1982 KR 1.5 which is a little longer in the wingspan and a
little wider in the body width and length. It is in between the KR 1 and 2
dimensions. The aircraft has been kept indoors the entire time and is in
fine shape.

53hp Volkswagen engine with 400 hrs. Engine has been overhauled. 19'
wingspan; all instruments; sliding canopy and KR retract system on wheels.

Plane is located in Bergen County (Northern) NJ.

Subject: Diehl wing skins and KR for sale
From: <brian.kr...@eamanufacturing.com>
List-Post: krnet@list.krnet.org
Date: Sat, November 27, 2010 10:26 am
To: kr...@mylist.net

Hi boys and girls. Hope you have all been doing good.

I have a standard KR2 that I got in a great deal, but I have no room for it
with my other projects. I will be listing it on Barnstormers later today, but
wanted to give you all first dibs on it. The fusalage is fairly well done and
painted with a canopy on and a cowl. Spars are done. Had tri gear, but has
been taken off and sold so will need new gear. I have a set of Diehl wing
skins still in the crate to go with it.

I need to unload this one fast because it is in an EAA chapter hanger that is
going away. I will sell it all to the first person who can come up with $1,500
and pick it up next weekend. I am going to the hanger in a little while to
take pictures.

No instruments, engine mount, landing gear, or other goodies are there.

I never check this email so email me at br...@eamanufacturing.com or call at
904-536-1780.

I have not been on the KRNet in a while. I seem to remember that there is
another KR news place somwhere. Would be great if someone could copy this
message there for me.

See you all at Sun N Fun!

  Hi all,

I have a KR-2 for sale, it was a flying plane in the test phase, then had
a hard landing and now needs a few minor repairs along with finishing the
engine. it has a tri gear and the engine is a VW 1800 greatplanes conversion
done at the factory. and is brand new because the old engine had a prop
strike and as shot, so a new engine.

I also have an extra upper and lower KR-2 cowling

I don't have pictures posted yet but if there is intrest I will try to
post some somewhere. Or I can try to email pictures ?

the plane is located in California near Sacramento and I'm going to ask
$6,500.00 but I'm open to offers ?.

If anyone is intrested contact me off the net at
"bobbycrea...@yahoo.com<mailto:bobbycrea...@yahoo.com> " and I might be able
to email pictures.

I picked up the plane thinking I could finnish it and fly it, and I really
don't think it will take much to get it flying but I just don't have the
time to work on it or the place to keep it. so I think before it gets
wrecked sitting out I should move it along.

  thanks

KR> Kr2 sale

2008-10-12 Thread Carol & Weldon Jennings
Howdy all -
I bought a 99% completed KR2 last year. It's a tailsragger with a Cont
engine. No electrical - and that's my problem - to much re-do (in my mind,
anyway) and I realized later that I don't want to hand prop (it scares my
wife to much). It's painted and registered but needs inspection and a few
minor items.
The price is $9500 OBO. Some kind of trade might work out, too. It's in my
shop in Washington state.
If you're interested, please email me off the list at
blackforestf...@spsdialup.com. Sorry, I don't have one of those fancy web
things to show all sorts of pictures, but I can email something from a
dialup line. If you prefer oneonone talks, my phone number is 360 264 4687.
And Sundays are our sabbath, so I am unavailable then.
Thanks,
Weldon Jennings

KR> Tailwheel sale

2008-10-12 Thread Brian Kraut
I have a special this week on used tailwheels. I have the following
available:

Raven locking tailwheel with spring bar $225.00, new price is $375 from
Spruce

Aviation Products tailwheel for 5/8" spring bar $175.00, this is sold as the
homebuilders special at Spruce new for $272

Three Scott 3200B tailwheels for $275 each. These sell new for over $1,500.
They are in real good shape but need new tubes. I would recommend new tires
while you are at it. Tubes are about $15 and tires are about $25. I could
be talked into cleaning them up, replacing the tires and tubes, painting the
wheels, and cleaning and repacking the wheel bearings for a few extra bucks.

New Rand tailspring only for $15.00.

If anyone needs a Maule SFS-P8A I could be talked into putting one of my
Scott wheels on my Pacer and selling the Maule for $200.

I also have a bunch of parts for Lang, Maule, and Scott 2000 tailwheels and
could sell parts or probably build a complete tailwheel assembly or three.
Let me know what you need.

Email me at br...@engalt.com or call 904-536-1780.

2008-10-12 Thread Jamie Duff
Hi Brian,

Could you please tell me whether the Aviation Products tailwheel is a 4" or
6"? Also what's the spring angle and is it set up for 1.1/4" or 1.1/2"
springs?
P.S. would you ship to the UK and would you take a credit card?

Many thanks,

Jamie Duff,
Aberdeen,
Scotland,
UK (Don't have a CAA registration yet - and I've recently emailed Mark
Langford about getting a link in the Construction Page)

KR> For Sale

2008-10-12 Thread Colin Rainey
Netters
Just to clarify a few things, I am not anxious to sell N96TA.

However, circumstances have occurred where selling it would bring some
benefits, provided the person is actually going to finish it. It is listed
in Barnstormers as some have written to me about it. Price for all is
$14,000 with over $17,000 invested. This plane has actually flown over 30
hours and just needs the new engine installation completed and then tested.

I am also willing to sell the engine to only a KR Netter, with mount and
electronic ignition, coil, starter, etc... for $5500. This engine has yet to
be run in, but has been completely assembled except for the oil cover,
intake, carb, and exhaust pipes (manifolds are installed just need lock tabs
added). WW manual is included, but again only to be sold to a netter who
will fly it.

If I sell the engine off of the plane then the airframe stays with me. I am
not looking to part the plane out so please do not write me about different
pieces of equipment it contains. It sells one of two ways to a netter to
complete: engine alone or everything. Thanks, contact me off net if you want
more details, etc...

KR> For sale

2008-10-12 Thread Don Chisholm
Hey Doug; Your panel truck is worth more than what I have here and my KR1 isn't
for sale at this time. What I 'm doing is raising capital for an Aeronca Chief
that I have on line that I want to use my Lycoming engine on. 100- 105 MPH and
good short field rough field performance is what I'm after with a view of going
on floats at a later date. I'm picking it up for $5000 and have to clean it up
and recover it and will build an engine mount and do a cowling and a Superchief
vertical stabilizer and put float fittings on at Nick Smiths. I've got that
going for me and think it would be a waste of an expensive engine on a KR that
is a marginal load hauler and a questionable 2 seater. I get a 65 banger
Continental with it that is 1/2 time with logbooks that is worth $2500 with
the plane. I've already got the paperwork to register it in the amateurbuilt
category and will have no problems meeting the 51% rule. I buy block time on a
Cessna 150 and got 7.1 HRs on it this week, it's
good to be back in the saddle again.

Hey Don you interested in an even up trade for my Mercury Panel truck. Would
be a great head turner for the business and even get to write her off on
taxes.

I have a outer wing panel set that are jig built using a laser level that
are precision aligned with center section spars and are AS5046 with a
horizontal stabilizer and elevator from the same drawings. I'm keeping my
KR1 and going onto a different project, will sell all for cost of materials.

2008-10-12 Thread D F Lively
Doug:

Not a Chance Had the plans for 30 years and had the opportunity to go
fwd. witha Lt. Sport and came to the conclusion that my best shot at a craft
with good speed & range potential with a 4 cycle engine that was easy to
maintain filled the bill. The biggest obstacle to overcome was get its "Clean
Stall Speed" down to the magic 51 mph(44 kts). That looked like it was
achievable with the long wings. It should be pointed out that the original
plans book listed that stall to be 42 mph and that plane did not have flaps,
those were added to the plans around the '80 time frame.

I want a sport plane with good speed & range at less than a 30k price tag that
can be kept at home! What else qualifies?
