I didn't do the survey - it didn't let me preview through the
questions before deciding whether to spend time on it and didn't
provide me any info on how many questions there are (just the "less
than 20 minutes" statement). And also didn't explain to what extend
"native languages" is meant. Being fluent in?, etc. So I moved on and
just replied to the comments in this thread.

(And I'm not an active translator either)

Pootle is very slow
* on initial startup (not the problem in this case, as it runs normally)
* when requesting files for download (aka syncing the files to disk)
due to the way it works, this covers the whole project, not the
file/directory you're interested in.
So when you want to download files for offline translation, you have
to wait some time until it is served, but other files right after that
will be fast
* when updating against templates (again this involves syncing and
loading back into the database, thus it takes a while)
* creating search index (also only needed from time to time)

And LO of course is huge project. Don't compare it to other
installations that have in total less strings than a single language
in LO...

head over to Apache's pootle for a fairer comparison... It'll make
your browser "freeze" (not really, just it will appear the page has
finished loading, but your curser will not react to hover, etc, and of
course you won't get translations until you wait patiently). But once
you waited for the page to load, and then visit the page again, it
will have the stuff loaded much quicker.

Compared to that we don't need to hide..

That being said: Our setup surely can be tweaked - but without knowing
what exactly the problem is, there's not much to do. What would help
is faster i/o (that always helps if stuff is too big to fit in RAM..
i.e. SSD / RAID) - but of course it would be nice if the actual
bottleneck can also be identified.

No.
1st of all: pootle doesn't know about the new templates yet, I.e.
"update against templates" won't do anything right now
2nd updates triggered using the web-ui have caused the problem of
getting strings from other languages mixed in
3rd non-translation-relevant changes in strings would not be migrated.

So 2nd is the reason why I'd say: Please don't.
3rd would not be so bad, but people will complain if I don't prepare
the translations accordingly beforehand...

No, the migration just started for real. The machine was moved
physically this morning, so couldn't work on it before that.

The 4.4. is popluated, since that is just the old 4.3 projects that
were renamed.

I'm currently copying over the contents to the still-empty 4.3

4.4 projects have *not* been updated against latest templates yet, it

help has been updated against latest templates, UI still is in
progress (at or language currently)

> E.g. update
> finished, everything is ok?

No, not finished. Feel free to work on help, and on UI in case you're
language code comes before "or" in the alphabet. But be aware that:

* Since the update is still running, pootle might be slow
* Since it is only an update against templates, but no automatic
translation-run yet, all strings that only have changes in
not-to-be-translated parts of the strings are flagged as new as well.

Feel free to translate those, but don't complain "there are so many
useless string changes" yet :-)

I'm working on automated migration of those strings like the last time.

That won't cover the shortcut changes though, that I think is too
"risky"/to hard to map properly. But Sophie already took care of
having LO's translation read into the translation memory, so that
should hopefully help there :-) (not sure whether that is completed
already)

So again:
* help is done, but with no automated translation, so you might get
strings where only tags did change
* ui still is processing, only languages with language-code that come
before "or" are done updating against the templates
* if you trigger the update_against_templates from web-UI, don't
complain afterwards that you have translations from other languages
mixed in (in other words: just wait please)
* automated translation will be done after the current update is fully
completed.

Please note that translation wise there's no real difference compared

[libreoffice-l10n] [pootle] templates updated for 4.3 ui project

templates have been updated for 4.3 ui and update_against_templates
has been run for.

The actual new string is for Euro-Converter where Lithuania is now
part of the countries to pick from (they'll switch to Euro January
next year).

Another change is for Readme re Mac OSX version compatibility

-msgid "MacOSX 10.5 (Leopard) or higher, Intel or PowerPC processor"
+msgid "MacOSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or higher"

Also there were some previous changes that were not reflected, but for
those you can just copy the English strings. (0, >=, <=) and one
change in case:

-msgid "Use Outer Join syntax '{OJ }'"
+msgid "Use Outer Join syntax '{oj }'"

Of course in the normal builds the translations are updated, just
*between* those, they are not updated. So the daily builds provided by
the tinderbox don't have newer translation than the last build that is
available from the pre-release download page.

So for every build for which there is an announcement to the
mailinglist(s), there's updated translations. but for the daily builds
that are also available from dev-buids.libreoffice.org they don't
include update translations.

Sorry for not being clear about that.

So

http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/pre-releases/
→ has updated translations that were extracted from pootle right
before the build was started

http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/
→ those don't have any additional updates,

So the latest build you get from pre-releases (or from
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/pre-releases/ where the builds are
provided shortly after being first made available on
http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/pre-releases/ )
will have the most recent translations you can get without building a
version of LibreOffice yourself.

That location just collects the builds as they are done before they
are distributed over the mirror network. In other words: that is the
"early-tester" URL where people can get the build before it is
officially made available via the main download pages on
www.libreoffice.org

The daily builds are automatically done. The pre-release ones not.

Yes, Beta-version also is a pre-release. The difference is that beta
version is "LibreOfficeDev" version, i.e. it uses different
user-profile path and has different name, so you can install it next
to your stable version of LibreOffice.

release candidates (RC) are "LibreOffice" versions, i.e. they would
update your currently installed stable version of LibreOffice

> And it says that I can get beta versions on the
> "Pre-releases server" (http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/pre-releases/)

Yeah, that's a badly written statement here. On the
dev-builds.libreoffice.org version there currently is 4.3.5 rc1
available, but it is not yet available via www.libreoffice.org (as it
needs to be copied to the mirrors first) - so for the duration of one
day or two, you can only get it from dev-builds.

> but there are no either alpha or beta versions where the link
> brings me. I even looked under several different platforms with no luck.

Yes, dev-builds.libreoffice.org is cleaned up afterwards, as builds on
the one hand take lots of disk-space, and on the other hand it makes
finding the most recent build to test much harder if there would be
multiple versions in the directories.

> Sorry if I am overlooking something obvious!

well, you write text above fullquote, so that's for me always a bad
sign (as my experience shows people tend not to read what was written
too closely), so I repeat:

* dev-builds pre-releases section is temporary upload location.
Builds are collected there before they are distributed to the mirrors
* after the builds are distributed to the mirrors, the builds are
available from www.libreoffice.org/download/pre-releases
* daily builds are automatically generated and don't have newer
translations than the pre-release builds

Compose sequences should be the same regardless of keybloard layout,
you probably mean they're not accessible using group-switch key
(altGr) directly. (they are indeed not in the crippled plain en-US
layout, but are in the international layout)
But compose sequences are also available:
compose, apostroph, less/greater (or compose, less/greater, apostroph,
order usually doesn't matter with compose sequences)

i.e.
compose, ', > → ’
compose, ', < → ‘

same with the double quotation marks: compose, ",
compose, ", > → ”
compose, ", < → “

compose, >, > and compose << will give » and «

But with a keyboard-layout that actually makes use of the different
groups, you can also enter it with [+]+,
shift usually switching between the single or double variants ( ›‹ vs
»« and “” vs ‘’ for example)

Well, the only thing that can be done is to apply the old strings
despite the typographic changes, i.e. do a run that maps all
typographic quotes back to simple variants and then try to find an old
translation for that string and apply it.
In other words: Change the English string to typographic quotes, and
take the translations from the non-typographic variant.

So translators wouldn't need to retranslate, but also wouldn't see
what strings did change.

Yes, as *starting* point. But as for example by mistakes (like for
example the post from the Kazakh team today) groups that use offline
translation (i.e. upload files to translations) mess up and add
additional files, or files with old/additional translations.

And it can happen that they undo a "update against templates" run that
way and thus there can be discrepancy in word count.

It is also possible for project-level terminology files that change
the overall wordcount (but those then don't end up in the product)

It's impossible to automatically decide which of those changes are
purely cosmetic and which not. And there likely won't be anyone who
manually goes through all the changes and manually creates mapping
from old to new so that old translations can be pulled in. And with
changes like changing casing and adding colons it is more likely that
the translation will also want to apply the change, so just staying
silent and not flagging the string as changed is not really an option
here.

it's different with one-to-one changes that can easily
(=automatically) be undone to look for the string as it was before the
cosmetic change.

The auto-translations of the help strings with changed help-ID works
that way (although there is quite a bit of manual work involved to
create the mapping). But once you have a mapping "old-helpid" →
"new-helpid", you can easily apply the old translation.

Not progressing just for the sake of not causing work for anybody is
the wrong approach.
But that doesn't mean the workflow as a whole cannot be improved.
It would for example also be possible to have "master" project in
pootle (instead of just for the release-branches), so that the amount
of changes are incremental, and not all one or two months before a new
major release.
(but that of course means applying a translation to multiple projects,
so not sure whether that really reduces the work and not causing more
work for translators...)

The Document Foundation is pleased to announce the second Beta
release of LibreOffice 4.4.0. The upcoming 4.4.0 will be the ninth
major release of LibreOffice, coming with a bunch of new features
beside the usual bugfixes.

The Beta2 can be installed alongside the stable version, so feel free
to give it a try. Beta2 is not ready for production yet, and while
Beta1 marks feature freeze, final UI and string freeze is yet to come,
and translations are not complete.

A work-in-progress list of new features in LibreOffice 4.4 can be

Not all currencies are supported by both paypal and Concardis, so
might pick what makes sense here.

> msgid "5"
> msgstr ""

those are meant to be the equivalent of 5, 10, Euro in the
currency you picked above.
I.e. if you were to use Japanese Yen, it wouldn't make sense to have 5
Yen donations, as the fees already would eat that up. so the
approximate equivalent of 5 Euro would be 500 Yen → you'd put 500 in
there.

The donations are performed in the donation that was picked, so in
case currency is Yen, and value is 500, then 500 Yen would be paid by
the donator. Gets the value of 500 Yen in Euro (minus currency
conversion fees, minus paypal or Concardis fees)

doesn't have any count of contributions, no weight of how much a

just have them create an account and have them submit a change via

It's kind of a workaround, but maybe works for you. In addition

No. Nothing will be merged to master from the other branches. And
nothing will be merged from master to the other branches.

> or
> - changes in 4.5 branch will not affect the next 4.6 branch?

Yes. 4.2 translations don't affect 4.3 translations, 4.3 translations
don't affect 4.4 translations, and 4.4 translations won't affect 4.5

> Btw, it's a bit ironic that the new workflow is introduced just after

You can think of master as translation for 4.5 There's nothing special
about master.

regular code workflow:
 __ master
\ \ \ \
 \ \ \ \__libreoffice-4-5
  \ \ \__libreoffice-4-4
   \ \__libreoffice-4-3
\__libreoffice-4-2

All branches were once "master", and then were split up to refine stuff.

Translations were special project, as basically there was no "in
between" updates. Translations did jump from 4-2 to 4-3, from 4-3 to
4-4 without any intermediate updates in between.

Master based workflow would mean that when libreoffice-4-5 is created,
the translations of master will be copied over and reused for that,
and master then would be ongoing for libreoffice-4-6

What is benefit for translators?
No rush needed when libreoffice-4-5 is about to be released, as you
have all the time preparing the translations on master. All you have
to translate when 4-5 is about to released is the changes that are
done very late in the release-process.
Having translations for master also allows to create daily builds with
the translations more easily, so you can check translations in the
daily builds more easily.

Drawback for translators:
If you have rather incomplete translations for 4-4, then you need to
do the changes in both 4-4 and in master. Or just ignore master and
only focus on 4-4 - but then of course you have to translate all the
stuff that changed in between when the 4-5 release is split-off.
translating both shouldn't be too much work, as you can just reuse the
proposals of the translation-memory.

And all those *##* who keep ranting about the changing caps and
similar: It has been made pretty clear already that any such change
would be handled automatically with no need for retranslating. Shut
the f* up/write your stuff in other threads if you don't want to
participate in the current topic.

I'm puzzled where the perception comes from that on master you
suddenly have thousands of additional strings that you wouldn't have
to translate in the current process as well.

To ask some of the on-topic questions:
* why all languages, not just some
→ less work. It's lot easier to just process all languages at once
and don't need to think about picking individual languages.
→ that being said: You're not forced to use it. If you don't
translate on master, then you'll just have to translate all at once
shortly before release (like it's the case currently).

* master translations will only be used for the daily/snapshot builds,
not for releases. No migration from master to 4-4 or 4-3 will happen.
If you want to have the change in the release-branches, you need to
update the 4-4/4-3 translation yourself.
* master translations will be copied to 4-5 when it is due, and then
4-5 will be used for the 4.5.x release builds, and master will become
the ongoing translation for 4.6

* how frequent will there be updates
→ no more than once a moth
Translations/dialogs/etc don't change so frequently, so there won't
be changes all over the place.

* what if I don't want to use master
→ then make sure you don't actually do stuff in master, as then it
will be overriden when 4-5 is branched off
→ for those languages who chose not to make use of master, shortly
before the branch-off of 4-5 the translations of 4-4 will be copied to
master (override current master translation) and updated against
templates.
In other words: If you don't want to use master: Don't use master.
Changes you do on master will be overridden when you request copying
from 4-4. So either do any merges yourself, or don't complain
afterwards.

looks fine with me, the base64 block decodes properly here. And even
if it doesn't like utf-8 for some reason, it would still decode
correctly in us-ascii (as in this case no non-ascii letters are

Your client ignores the transfer-encoding and instead tries to
interpret it as byte-sqeuence or similar... That's really broken. the
g=== at the end is about the only stuff that remained intact from the
base64 message (that undecoded should also only contain ascii, so
whatever encoding your mailclient thinks it should be using, it is
broken)

Nope, as on the next export from pootle those changes will be overridden again.

The changes need to be done in pootle. (not necessarily via web-UI,
that would be tedious, but the change needs to be reflected in pootle
to "stick").

But as some languages use offline translation, even doing the change
in pootle might be undone when teams just upload their local copy
again without bothering to check for updates that were done in pootle.

I absolutely don't get why you're attempting to use the update against
templates from the web.

Over and over we have stated that this can lead to intermixed translations
and thus people should not use it.

So unless you at least state the project and language and reason for
running it, I don't want to spend time on that.

but that displays master tree (i.e. the state of 4.4 before it
branched-off), so irrelevant for 4.3 translations.

https://github.com/LibreOffice/translations/blob/libreoffice-4-3-6/source/ru/svx/source/dialog.po
is the translation as of now in the 4.3.6 one. (i.e. the most current
in the 4-3 line)

[cgit.fdo is also pretty slow when working with the translation repo,
so I suggest to use the github mirror for inspection instead (see also
Sophie's mail from a short while ago)]

Those strings were not flagged as translatable in the 4.3 branch. only

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=927a869b9ac0e8a36de08f160a0c9a42452ef3aa

made them translatable.

The 100% refers to what is in the po file templates/what is flagged as
translatable. The value might be off sometimes because some stats are
not updated immediately, but in this case the 100% is correct. You
cannot translate more in 4.3. Even if you added the strings to the
pofile, they wouldn't be used by LibreOffice.

Making those strings translatable for LO 4.4 didn't please all
translators either. There were rants about that useless change, yadda
yadda... You cannot please everyone I guess..

long story short: Those strings are not translatable in 4.3, what you
see in pootle is all you can translate.

Indeed, and furthermore this would arguably be a UI/string change and
those aren't "allowed" at that point of a release.
And since people did complain loudly the first time the strings were
made translatable in the first place, I won't touch that area, not to
mention that I don't know how much effort it would be to actually port
that change over. Dialogs might have changed, etc.

Too risky with little benefit, and gradient's labels aren't that
critical I'd say (also given that you're the first to notice/bring it
to the list)...

Beta is much later. Beta1 is mid/end of May. Mid April is a first
Alpha, but that basically is just a snapshot of master that is
labeled 4.5 alpha (i.e. no feature freeze yet, no ui or
string-freeze...)

Yes, for 4.5/master new languages will be enabled. I don't know what
the minimum translation percentage has been so far to end up in a
release build though.

> My question is - I've been working on pootle on the 4.4 UI version since

I don't quite get what your question is, so I'll just answer in general:
Translations of 4.4 will be copied to 4.5¹

Once this was done, you need to do your changes in both the 4.4 and
4.5 projects, as there will be no syncing in between them (you can
focus on 4.5 and apply the changes to 4.4 using translation memory or
similar tools however).

> Also, a completely different question.
>
> Is it possible to build a Windows or Mac installer for LO on Linux?

Mac: No.
Windows: there once were attempts to use mingw to cross-compile for
windows, but this never really took off, esp. as it would never work
for officially released builds (as it breaks ABI for extensions and
the like). And Microsoft's Visual Studio (and all other build
requirements) are available free of charge, so there is not really
much gain in trying to cross-compile. If you ask because you want to
check translations, then stay away, you're basically on your own and
are expected to fix stuff that fails yourself, and not ask for help to
get a build running.
Better build on actual windows (or just restrict yourself to Linux,
for checking translations that is more than enough)

>I would
> like to test it if that's possible.

Don't expect working instructions or an easy build. The tinderbox that
used mingw to create a somewhat-working version went out-of-service in
2012 I think, so since then code to support mingw might have been
removed or bit-rotted...

ciao
Christian
[1] technically the current 4.4 will become the working area for 4.5
and there will be a copy made to continue with 4.4, but that's a
detail only relevant for flagging of pootle's checks
And depending on how it goes with the pootle-testinstallation/the
pootle update, we will have master (rolling, continuously updated and
synced with the code), and 4.5. and 4.4 projects (synced when a
release is due)

Nothing ever gets overridden in master.
When 5-0 branch will be created in the code, the files from master
will be copied into new lib50_help/ui branches, and master will

[libreoffice-l10n] [ANN] LibreOffice 4.4.3 RC2 available

2015-04-30 Thread Christian Lohmaier
Dear Community,

The Document Foundation is pleased to announce the second release
candidate of LibreOffice 4.4.3. The upcoming 4.4.3 will be the third
in a sequence of frequent bugfix releases for our feature-packed 4.4
line. Please be aware that LibreOffice 4.4.3 RC2 has not been flagged
as ready for production use yet, however feel free to give it a try
instead of 4.4.2.

A work-in-progress list of new features in LibreOffice 4.4 can be
found at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/4.4

The release is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X from our QA
builds download page at

  http://www.libreoffice.org/download/pre-releases/

Developers and QA might also be interested in the symbol server for
windows debug information (see the release notes linked below for
details)

Should you find bugs, please report them to our Bugzilla:

  https://bugs.documentfoundation.org

A good way to assess the release candidate quality is to run some
specific manual tests on it, our TCM wiki page has more details:

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests#Full_Regression_Test

For other ways to get involved with this exciting project - you can
e.g. contribute code:

  http://www.libreoffice.org/community/developers/

translate LibreOffice to your language:

  http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/LibreOffice_Localization_Guide

or help with funding our operations:

A list of known issues and fixed bugs with 4.4.3 rc2 is available
from our wiki:

Let us close again with a BIG Thank You! to all of you having
contributed to the LibreOffice project - this release would not have
been possible without your help.

If you have everything translated for 4.4 already / have time to spend
to translate for 5.0, you acn start on master.
The 5.0 files will be taken from the master ones, so if you start now,
that gives you a week where you can already do stuff.

Right now, there's another update-against templates running, so pootle
might be a little sluggish, so avoid if you need to search a lot/don't
jump around, but rather focus on one file at a time - that should give
a better experience.

So again: Master will be copied to 50 project. feel free to start
translating now. After that master will be kept for 5.1 (and later),
and you'll have separate 50 projects. (and by that time hopefully on
the new version/server)

There is no server-side migration of 5.0 strings to master.

If you decide not to work on master, you'll have to sync files for 5.1
with local tools or on special request. There won't be automatic
merges back to master.

Yes, it is. As if you're up-to-date on master you'll have less work to
to when a release is branched off.
Sure, for the transition period it is more work, and if your
completion rate is low, it also might not be worth bothering, but:

> and that's

Not really.

> templates." [1]

How is that different? "On special request". That's still the same.

The main point is this what follows that quote:
"Changes you do on master will be overridden when you request copying
from 4-4. So either do any merges yourself, or don't complain
afterwards."

If you don't want to use master, don't use master. If you request a
merge to be done by pootle-admins, they won't bother to merge changes
that happened on master, but just overwrite everything with whatever
source you request.

The other way round: Those settings (the blacklisting one) can
*prevent* your computer from freezing :-)

But of course if it does freeze for you, then you should file a bug
with the details of your graphics card and driver, so it can be added
to the blacklist for all users, so that not-so-early-testers won't
suffer from the same problem.

And also direct-x blacklist helps to show presentation on
high-resolutions in case the driver is buggy (e.g like
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54417 )

The source code tarballs don't contain the repository data. You can

Don't use the "old" one - use gug.

Also gug.

But please note, that the new pootle has not been updated with the new
data yet. Right now, conversion of the current data is performed and
once the data is updated, there will be a separate announcement.

If you do changes in the new test instance right now, they will be

A small note to this one: Since the downtime took longer than
expected, the templates have not been synced with the latest changes
in the code (and I won't do so before grabbing the files for rc1 later
this week on Thursday).
rc1 marks string and UI freeze, so after that you'll still have more
than a month to work on the translation for 5.0.0 final.

Those are static content/announcements now. Danish one would be

Statistics is a work-in-progress area - so far there's no overall

Yes, that's correct.

Once 5.0 is out, I'll create separate 5-0 projects, and master will
then be used for 5.1
I don't think it makes sense to split off the projects before 5.0 is
out, as there won't be automatic merges from the versioned projects to
the master one.

[libreoffice-l10n] templates updated in master projects (for 5.0 release)

2015-06-26 Thread Christian Lohmaier
Hi *,

you might have noticed that there are new strings in your projects -
the templates have been updated to the latest ones for 5.0

The bulk of changed strings in UI is from the added emoji autocorrect
file (1395 "words").

There were some change in casing or typography, for which the update
should have kept your original string, but has flagged it as fuzzy.
That should keep the amount of actual re-translating needed quite low.

As this has been the first time the update has been performed on the
new server, please report any irregularities.

What do you mean with "again"?

"nobody" (aka even unregistered/not-logged in) as well as "default"
(i.e. everyone logged in) have the permission to download archives of
the project.

But I see that in the not-logged-in case there is no "sidebar" with the link.

however, using
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/export/?path=/templates/libo_ui/
works even when not logged-in, same for libo_help

So for anonymous/non-logged in users it is a matter of knowing the
link - but when logged in, you should see (or be able to expand) the
sidebar with the links.

The file has pretty good comments, and also lists the target-character
(of course you need a font that contains the character to display it),
other than that you need to imagine by the string-identifier and the
autocorrect sequence.

> Do we need to translate
> these "words"?

No, if you think it is a waste of time, don't translate.

And for some it doesn't really make sense to translate, for example
the double-exclamation mark character using two !! is a good way to
represent it, or the ellipsis (three-dots-character) using ... for it
is pretty straightforward.

But of course for the other symbols, using a localized trigger might make sense.

> Are there any hints about using space character in

Space is OK - some of the English strings already make use of it. For
example "do not litter" or "potable water" signs/triggers.

But just noticed a bug in pootle. It doesn't display the developer
comments for the higher unicode samples...
e.g. for the cent symbol:
¢ (U+000A2), see http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Emoji
6xmho

Must be unicode related bug in the DB

Don't understand what you mean with that.

A volunteer provided a list of characters and a corresponding
replacement table - that is not rocket science...

> Serving the transition from language to pictograms? Pointing and grunting

People like their emojis. I myself also wouldn't necessarily enter
them using autocorrect codes, but offering that easy way doesn't hurt,
does it?

As a user, you're not restricted to those emojis, but can instead use
the autocorrect-shortcodes to insert other characters or sequences of
your choice. The biggest change about this is that the
emoji-autocorrect way doesn't require a space before and after to
trigger the replacement.

> Sorry for that rant, I'm envisioning doing the 1,5k of these.

If you think it is stupid to translate, just don't translate and reuse
the english one.
Or ignore altogether if the count of untranslated words doesn't bother you.

This is https://code.djangoproject.com/ticket/13919 - or more precise
mysql only able to store three-byte utf8 encodings - the ones like
clef symbol and others require four bytes in utf8.
Unfortunately in this case the whole comment is discarded and not stored.

we have mysql 5.5 running on the server, so we might switch to the
extended character type for the comments

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/charset-unicode-utf8mb4.html

But I'd rather wait for Dwayne's comment on that (as this might affect
upgrades or other scripts)

D'oh, seems I forgot to actually commit the files to the templates
repo (this version of pootle doesn't do the update against templates
itself, this now has to be done outside pootle)

I think I already replied to a question like this, but not sure and
this was still in my inbox...

So far, translations were only pushed to master before a branch for a
new release was created, so there were no regular commits to master at
all.

As now there is master projects in pootle, the plan is to export from
pootle around every two weeks. I'll start doing this once the 5-0-0
branch is created and the 5-0 projects in pootle have been setup (in
other words when master really is for master)

That's true, but does not imply the above.

It is expected (as it has been discussed on this list before) and it
can also be considered a bug.

Use manually entered links, e.g.

 https://translations.documentfoundation.org/export/?path=/cs/libo_ui/

adjust the path accordingly for other languages or projects or if you
only want parts, e.g:

https://translations.documentfoundation.org/export/?path=/cs/libo_ui/cui/uiconfig/

And be patient. As long as your browser shows the "I'm waiting"
indicator, no need to press refresh, the preparation of the download
won't be faster just because you want it to :-)

please take care of repackaging the correct directory structure to
avoid creating the files in the wrong place when uploading again.

While there is no build-time conversion yet, Lázló provided a script
to merge the translations from the po files into the autocorrect
files. so yes, there is possiblilty to have the emoji based
autocorrect files in the next RC.

Although NL-project can request to not have it included.

Note though that only entries for which you provided a translation
will appear. (see also wiki, "nil" translation or empty translation

And you write this to the l10n list because?

And please: always provide actual link to pootle, it makes stuff so
much faster. And since now there's a easy link on each unit, no
excuse not to copy one.

it is partially translated in pootle, so no way to expect fully
translated string in the installset.

Yes, the language is taken from silverstripe's mapping (that is
extended for those languages where there isn't a builtin.

I changed it on our local copy - but I think it is desired to also
have that removed from upstream. It is not suitable in any case,
right?

[libreoffice-l10n] tdf#93233 - avoid ":" as part of emoji autocorrect translations

2015-08-14 Thread Christian Lohmaier
Hi *,

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93233

as autocorrect with :whatever: syntax triggers without space (that's
why this was introduced in the first place), using ":" as part of the
 triggering keyword doesn't work.

This also affects the original strings, so since 5 is defined
already, you cannot use 5:30 as when you type in LO, :5:30: , you get
30: as the :5: will be replaced immediately.

The suggestion is to use :0530: as trigger (so translate to 0530 or similar.

When the english strings will be fixed, there will be automatic
translation using the old strings, so changing english strings should
not affect translators.

As we have the internal translation memory, the strings you translated
on master should be offered as suggestion in the 5.0 project.

They will be taken from the libo50_ui and libo50_help projects.

No, I took the question regarding the "the next versions 5.x" as
questions for 5.0.1, 5.0.2,

LibreOffice 5.1 will be branched off from master branch, so that will
take master translation. But that is for next year.

5.0.x will all be taken from 50 projects, and master will be used for
master, and that at some point will be branched-off to create the
5.1.x versions. But that is for the far future.

If you want end-users to have translated version, focus on the
libo50_* project (and libo44_*, however there will only be one more
release on 4.4 codeline, so only makes sense to work on that if you
have high completion rate or if you translate both)

Yes, that's correct workflow. Focus on what end-users will get, and
only then focus on the other stuff.

> Do the translations made to branch 5.0 appear to the master branch as well?

Not automatically.

If the amount of untranslated strings is not large, you can use the
builtin translation memory and after having translated just accept the
suggestion of the translation that is offered from the 50 project.

If you translated huge amount of strings, then you can request a
offline merge of the strings that does that. (or can do that yourself
and upload the changed files)

Should stop by itself... The "python brackets" test has been disabled
on the libreoffice project, to avoid false positives from that string
- we're not using python style string replacements, so {foo} has no
special meaning/doesn't have to be the same.

So the system now is refreshing the stats.

It doesn't hinder you from doing translations, does it? Only the
summary screens should be affected, not the translation view.

Anyone can do it - it is a simple check for identical translation.

in translations/source repository for example:

for file in $(ls ./*/extras/source/autocorr/emoji.po); do
duplicates=$(grep msgstr $file  |grep -Ev 'msgstr "(|nil)"' |sort
|uniq -cd); if (test -n "$duplicates"); then echo $file; echo
"$duplicates"; fi ; done

simplified version if you only want to check your own language: "grep
msgstr path/toemoji.po | sort | uniq -cd" (you can ignore empty
translations (msgstr "") and explicitly flagged-to-skip ones (msgstr
"nil").

They can be removed individually - but I didn't want to do it earlier,
as both 5.0.1 was close and after that the python-brackets removal and
and update against master templates was run...

Yeah, we for example still have the 4.3 branch online - so that's only
as reference for translators, not actively used anymore.

In this case it does make sense, as Guarani isn't enabled for a build
on the 4.4 branch, so even if it lingers around, it won't end up in LO
unless you build yourself and tweak the makefiles.

This is pointless if you don't merge against templates first.

Yes, pootle ignores files that don't match it's signature.

There should be some error message though, but maybe your browser hides it.

> Can anyone take a look at Pootle and unbreak it for Hungarian?

Download master files and the 50 files. then merge tranlations from
50 to the master files, then upload the modified master files.

for merging, you can use pomerge
http://translate-toolkit.readthedocs.org/en/latest/commands/pomerge.html
(should be available in most linux distros) or msgmerge or whatever
other tool you want to use.

Whenever you report a problem like this, at least provide a concrete example.

Translations were updated prior to building the 5.0.2.1 version, so
you need to be more specific, otherwise

...there's no guarantee that the translation will be included next
