Greetings Oriol, and welcome to OpenOffice;

We have two types of translation, and they have different processes.

The first is translating the User Interface (UI),and Help for the software
itself. For this we currently Pootle.
For this you need to request a Pootle account, instructions for which can be
found in the following section of our Pootle User Guide at
https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Pootle_User_Guide/Registration_and_Login#Registration.We
have 3 different variants for the language currently in Pootle: Valencian,
Valencian AVL, Valencian RACV.with both UI, and Help files.

The second is translation of the website. This entails us sending you a file
with the critical strings that need to be translated. For this just send an
e-mail to this mailing list asking to translate the website into your
language.

The "msg_prop_l10n_xx" file was not yet translated. Therefore the text
parts on the main and download webpage is still in English.

To get Bulgarian text into the navigation bar on the top right (Product, 
Download, Support, ...) please translate also the "brand.md" and 
"topnav.md" files.


When you translate this also the website would be quite complete.

Hello,

You can provide your help at different levels, but at the end the
translations have to be applied via Pootle service.

The process of becoming a volunteer-translator starts with subscribing to
this list (empty message should do the trick). Instructions to create a
Pootle account will follow the confirmation.

I can see, https://translate.apache.org/hi/ , that the main application is
almost complete, but help file needs work. You can also suggest translated
strings before being able to log in.

Above is a message from regular volunteer-translator. All replies should go
to the mailing-list.

account, having an account allows you to review anonymous contributions and
accept them as well as other things.

If you are interested in an account you can find information on requesting it
at https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Pootle_User_Guide/Registration_and_Login.
Once that request is received an admin will add you to the site.

Also as Taavi mentioned it is the golden rule of mailing list etiquette to
start a new post for a new subject.

The golden rule here is that every translator starts his/her own thread in
order to apply for a Pootle account (required to submit translations)

Hello Keith,

Actually I just tried a little bit how the process would go,
because this is totally new thing for me.

Also it came to my mind that you perhaps (should) use somekind of translator
for the main/basic/rough translation and then some persons go through this 
"raw translation" with corrections to it.
At least that is how I would do it today, as we have quite good translation 
programs
in the market.

1. I suppose that the trial which I made was for UI- and/or Help files for the 
software, am I right ?
2. Then there is the other side, the web site ? How does that look like ?

But before volunteering to anything, I would like to see a bigger/larger 
picture of these 
processes, how they go and what tools you are using, also the tools themselves.
Because I do not want to be just one "screw driver" beside the conveyor belt, 
just turning
"one bolt" and not understanding the whole process and also perhaps wanting to 
develop
this process itself ?!

I just felt the same when translated those few words and short sentences, 
without seeing
the whole UI- or HELP-file and without knowing to what program or process I am 
doing these
small translations ?
I hope you understand what I mean ?

There are tow areas of translation that that we deal with. First is the 
translation of the User Interface (UI) and Help Files (Help) for the software 
itself; then there is translation of the web site to your native language.

Each of these have different processes to cary them out.

For translation of the UI anf Help we use an instance of the translation 
software Pootle and we have User Guide for that software written and maintained 
by volunteer translators.

Translation of the website is fairly manual at this point, but there is a user 
guide being drafted currently.

either/or both ares you would like to help in we can get you started.

We look forward to hearing from you soon and look forward to working with you.

Greetings, and welcome to Apache OpenOffice. There are 2 different translation
operations that can be done.

1:  Translation of the software itself using our instance of Pootle 
translation
software.
2:  Translation of the website into your native language.

Both have very different translation processes.
For #1 we have an online guide that you can peruse. (1)
For #2 we are preparing documentation now.

You are more than welcome to both as well.

As you are not subscribed the this mailing list, I have cc'd your e-mail
address. Please reply only to L10N@openoffice.apache.org.

Please note that there are works coming up. I plan to do 2 Steps. Each 
seperated one from another.


1. Pootle will be moved to a new machine (No change in address)

2. Pootle update. ( I would like to upgrade the software to a new, if 
possible latest version)



I plan to do one after another. And I hope I can announce a test for Step 1.

This is an unrelated process to other Issues we have. So please keep 
them separated.

that in the Pootle though. Is there another website for that or does 
this require repo access?


The text I wanted to fix is the one on the image bellow. In Polish it

No "social" folder in french. Need to copy it ?

Hello Matthias,
Unfortunately after importing the templates, my 2year work on Armenian
translation of a Help file disappeared. I see the following picture:
- Incomplete: 317302 (28.0% translated);
- Total: 440 631.

Is it possible to restore for Armenian latest backup?
