[lace] La Encajera lace contest
I've uploaded Tamara's file with the instructions for La Encajera lace contest: http://www.angelfire.com/home/avital/Contest.gif. It's a large picture, so you will probably want to right-click on the picture and save it or print it out, to read at your leisure. [lace] Jet Lag
DD and her husband leave for Japan tomorrow morning. I remember reading a posting on Arachne a couple of years ago about someone who had gone to Australia, had purchased some pills to help with Jet Lag (in the airport in the US) and found that they worked really well. I forget what it was called and would appreciate knowing! Also, DH and I are going on a Cruise to Hawaii at the end of January and I'm wondering if there's anything lacey that I could be watching for. We are flying to Los Angeles where we will be staying overnight before leaving on the Cruise in the morning - sadly, I don't think there will be shopping time there :( Jane in Sault Ste. [lace] Japanese book
Hi Tamara All Thank you, Tamara, for the questions - they made me take time to sit down and really look at the book again! I'm still trying to get the house back to normal after having family for nearly a week - I'm sure many of you can relate!! These are the patterns: 4 Russian mats 6 Torchon edgings 1 Flower Work runner 1 Burgge Flower Work doily 1 Chrysant doily 1 Flower Work lamp shade On looking carefully, I see that the Russian design tapes are 1/4 wide with pin holes every 1/8 and it is the Burgge Flower Work doily that has tapes which are 1/8 wide with 4 pins in every 1/8. Unfortunately and strangely, the pricking given for the Chrysanthemum doily is only for the centre section. I also looked at the page with pictures of supplies and see that there is also a spool of Bockens 80/2! I tried to find numbers relating to pairs required but all I see are page numbers connecting the picture of a design to the pricking. The working diagrams are very good! Great fun! Jane in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario where it's cold and drizzly :( No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. [lace] Re: from La Encajera Spain
I have just received info of LA Encajera's Newest Contest (in a more legible form than I last saw on the lace list). so I thouht i would forward it for everyone to get their thinking caps on. Sue Accessories for Weddings, Communions and general celebrations ( parties, other celebrations ) A very special day all over Spain is when little girls receive their first holy communion. They dress up in pretty white dresses, don white gloves, wear very special hair-bands with flowers in their hair and carry pretty handkerchiefs. These are all accessories that can be embellished or made entirely with lace. Another very special day is when bigger girls get married. The same holds true as before, but in this case we are talking about bridal laces, lace gloves for brides, handkerchief, garter, nightgown, pretty underclothes or other creative accessories. Let's not forget about the other half of the marriage, men. A marrying kind of guy needs a lace tie, a special handkerchief for his jacket pocket, and a pretty cushion to present that very special ring on that very special day. Besides these ideas we are sure you can think of others, for example, jewellery and handbags. We are anxious to see your ideas NO ENTRY FEE General Information The judging will be based on interpretation, technique, work, and general appearance. [lace] Spiders! What webs have you woven this year?
Hi Spiders! I was lucky enough to have a week off at Christmas and a low-key social calendar. So I finished a couple of long term UFOs. I have been laboring on interpreting a 16th Century Needle Lace pattern in Tatting. This particular pattern was composed of simply the cordonnet in little circles (interpreted as tatted rings) and long arcs, (interpreted as tatted chains). The pictures of the 16th Century NL pattern and my tatted interpretation are available for viewing at eTatters (no membership or login is required, the albums are public) The Tatting: http://www.etatters.com/album_showpage.php?pic_id=462 The color coded picture/diagram: http://www.etatters.com/album_pic.php?pic_id=463 The other thing I have finished (except for the joining) is an edging for the lovely, lavender filled pin cushion from Pauline. I should be able to put done to it tonight. Then I will post it in Webshots and send a copy to Lacefairy. I glitzed it up as much as I could with gold braid and cubic, fire polished red glass beads. I forget what it was called and would appreciate knowing! I know this is off topic for lace but I'm not on lace chat... You may be thinking of a product called No Jet Lag It's made in New Zealand according to the package. I've used it a couple of times with great results. Don't know the how's or why's of it-it says it's all natural ingredients, but it seems to do the job. You can get more info at www.nojetlag.com I've purchased it at Whole Foods stores in the U.S. Here in Guam I just order it from drugstore.com. More on topic, I'm almost finished putting the lace edging on a knitted Shetland lace shawl. It's a soft natural moorit color that has turned out to be prettier than I imagined. I made one in the same pattern last year, out of black cashmere. It was like a wonderful hug around your shoulders. And that's what it became when I gave it to my SIL shortly after my dear MIL passed away. It was the last thing she watched me knitting after years of watching my projects and it gave me great comfort to knit it as she was ill. I think this one will stay around my shoulders (once we leave the tropics, that is) Dona in Asan, Guam where many of our ships have left port to help those in need after the tsunamis. - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
