[lace] Re: bloomwork lace edge
Thanks. That means a lot :) Here is a lace edging that can accompany the bodice piece. Just took similar motifs of the bodice and worked it in a scallop fashion. http://www.tat-man.net/bobbinburg/BLgallery/BrugesLace_edging.jpg I just wish it would take this minimal amount of time to create as it does to work it up in Photoshop LOL!!! But hardly as satisfying ;) -- Mark, aka Tatman website: http://www.tat-man.net blog: http://tat-man.net/blog Magic Thread Shop: http://www.tat-man.net/tatterville/tatshop/tatshop.html email: tat...@tat-man.net Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/tatmantats On 8/25/10 2:59 PM, "Lorelei Halley" wrote: > Mark > That is incredible! Mark That is incredible! As far as I can tell, all of Bruges Bloomwork designs are made up of a stock set of motifs with variations. And each piece is just a different selection of motifs and arrangements of motifs. So you are designing Bloomwork just the way it is always designed (except for the computer and PhotoShop). There are lots of commercial counters around, but if you go to my homepage, URL in the signature, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the 'Stat Counter' icon it will take you to the 'StatCounter' home page, then follow the instructions for signing up and adding counters to any web page you maintain. It's all free, and you get a lot more than just numbers of hits. I know that I get around 8-10 hits a day on the front lacemaking page, but if I post something specific on Arachne it shoots up for a day or so. For instance the page about knitting yarn thickness usually gets 0-5 hits a day; when I posted the link last week it went up to 46 hits that day and 27 the next, then back down again. This is wonderful! This will help my wife and I when we work on costumes for the musicals we are a part of. Good inspiration pieces. Or if we need to freshen up our costumes for our heritage demonstrations. I saved the long link(which took me right to it) for future browsing. [lace] Brooklyn Museum Collection at the MMA
I was cruising the website today, and realized that 4000 items from the Brooklyn Museum had been added to the Costume Institute part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's website. These include a number of pieces of very nice lace. One of them, 2009.300.3467, I contacted the Brooklyn Museum about, a decade ago, and they could not locate it. The project has been, as I understand it, to take the 20,000 or so best objects from the Brooklyn Museum's legendary costume collection to make this collection within the MMA. I think the pieces continue to be jointly owned. If you go to _www.metmuseum.org_ (http://www.metmuseum.org) click on Collection Database in the left column. Then enter "Costume Institute" for department and "lace" for keyword. All the pieces from the Costume Institute are numbered 2009.300. They start on p.2 of this search. Of particular note are 2009.300.3467, 2009.300.1327, 2009.300.2055 and 2009.300.3500. There are also many other things of interest, since this represents the best of the Brooklyn Museum Collection. Among the lace are pieces that belonged to lace author Clara Blum's collection, and items of clothing that belonged to Rita de Acosta Lydig, who was a devoted lace collector, but also wore very old lace. Her lace adorned shoes are well known, but here are other items of hers,2009.300 1239a,2009.300 1240,2009.300 1241. This last is a garment from the 1920s which incorporates what looks like ancient filet lace, although it must have been newly made. This is a really stunning use of lace that is not usually considered for use in costume. People who are lovers of costume might want to look at all 4000 items which include folk costume and fashion costume. If so, go to Collection database, Costume Institute, and enter "Brooklyn" in key word. Devon You may be able to get directly to page 2 of the search by cutting and pasting this very long url. _http://www.metmuseum.org/works_of_art/collection_database/the_costume_insti tute/listview.aspx?page=2&sort=0&sortdir=asc&keyword=lace&fp=1&dd1=8&dd2=0&h i=0&ov=0_ (http://www.metmuseum.org/works_of_art/collection_database/the_costume_institute/listview.aspx?page=2&sort=0&sortdir=asc&keyword=lace&fp=1&dd1 =8&dd2=0&hi=0&ov=0) - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. There is a way to tell how many visitors you have, and ranking, somewhere on the task bar of the search page. Unfortunately I don't remember how to do it, but perhaps a google or someone here will help. Best, Susan Reishus *** "I always wonder if people look at my blog. [lace] Re: Blossom Time doily finished
Thank you Jeanette and everyone for the compliments. I used linen thread and I find that my picots and plaits don't twist as much as if I was using cotton. Linen also has crisper feel and stays where I lace it. Not sure if the quality of thread is a factor or just a characteristic of linen thread.
