Hello Celia and everyone

Folks must be busy! A good idea to see if things are working is to
post a question - such as what are you working on?
I'm between projects right now, working on what to do next ;)

Or just go the Arachne archives and see what the last post is. Currently
it's Celia's post and Bev's reply to her. Soon to be mine.

That's a good idea... I'm working on bucks point fan which is
coming along nicely and almost half done, and also making Russian tape
lace trees.. they depict the seasons and have done Spring (in pink
and pale green threads) and Autumn (Rust, yellow and orange) am working
on Winter in pale blue, glittery white and silver and will do Summer in
shades of Greens and yellowy green... They will hang in the window
over my front door when finished.

Good to see that my lacelist connections are working too. :-)

Oh what a good idea for a semi-circular window. I like that. One could
enlarge the pattern to fit a bigger window

Re: [lace] What are we working on (was lace:testing)

2011-03-12 Thread Sue Duckles

I've got 3 projects on the 'pillows' at the moment

1 (the most important...) a wedding garter for my daughter, and I wish
they'd make a decision on the date so I knew if I could do anything
else alongside it!! It's one of Biggins patterns, white with silver
and blue 'rope style' fans and trails at the edges

2 a piece of Bedfordshire - actually the first of 4 corners of a
hankie - one of Christine Springetts designs

3 a piece of honiton that's having the filling done. Haven't touched
it since the end of November (lots of snow and couldn't get it out of
the car, Christmas and aforementioned daughter announcing her
engagement!)

When the garter is finished then there's a fertility hankie for the
same wedding heading on to a pillow!!

Hi Sue and everyone

You have an impressive set of projects :)
What makes a hankie a fertility hankie, is it the design on the lace?

Since I last wrote 'here' to the list, I'm looking at an Easter egg
pattern from Anna, the 0392 number, wondering if I can find a
'cardboard egg' as suggested, or if Michaels sells styro eggs in the
size I'd need...

[lace] Now on my pillow: Flanders

2011-03-12 Thread Patricia M. Dowden
Haven't been on here for a long time!  On my pillow, which was languishing for
lack of use, is piece of Flanders from the book, Tierisch Flandrisch.  My
husband was taken with the cat, so that's what I decided to do.  But only one
repeat.  I'll mount it as a picture so he can put it in his office.

Actually, Michael may also sell the cardboard egg... I've seen other
shapes, so obviously they'd have eggs for Easter!

I'm not an authority here, but I think the answer to the question is YES. I
bet it's the same as for Pysanky Easter eggs, which I'm working on now, as it's
the season. They, like many Christmas decorations, use fertility symbols.
Christine Springett's fertility hankie in Lace for Special Occasions has what
look like wheat sheaves on it. I can only assume it's a tradigional pattern
for that, as her other Beds lace wedding hankie has hearts with sheaves of
wheat in the heart, and I can only assume it also has fertility symbolism. If
you make Pysanky eggs, the books tell you what the symbols mean, and you can
thus 'personalize' the egg if you're making a gift. I don't think there's
anything similar for lace. On the other hand church lace tends to have a lot
of crosses and trefoils. lrb
