[lace] Overcharging, The Lace Guild's Apology and Explanation
As a member of The Lace Guild Executive Committee I would like to say that we discussed this problem at the meeting which was taking place this last weekend. We all immediately agreed that the rate charged in this instance was not acceptable, or what was intended or normal, and that the excess would be refunded as soon as was possible. The Chairman said she was writing to give the apologies of The Lace Guild for this error, but whether she has been able to yet or not I don't know as she was not going home directly after the meeting. Normal practise in the office is for the order to be made up, then weighed. The actual cost of postage is calculated (plus VAT where applicable) and added to the cost of the goods before the payment is put through, so the addition to the cost of the goods is the postage. In the case of Daphne's order, as she said, it was added up from the column on the list showing the amount of postage for individual items; the intention of this column is to give the buyer an idea of the maximum their PP should be, the most that should be expected to appear on their card bill or on a âNot to Exceedâ cheque payment. This was done in error and it should not happen again. Since the weekend I have been in discussion with the staff at The Hollies and other Committee members to seek ways to ensure that this will not happen again, and to simplify and clarify the order form. We hope that this error is an isolated one, and we acknowledge it needs correcting. We are rectifying it as soon as we are able to, bearing in mind that apart from three part time staff (who are always very busy and are currently dealing with a real Christmas rush), we are all volunteers. Once again I would like to publicly apologise to Daphne and to reassure all Arachneans that we do take all feed back seriously, good or bad. Obviously I hope that in hindsight she won't feel that she has to leave the Guild over this matter. Re: [lace] Anchor Freccia question
Anchor Freccia is in Addendum 5 http://paternoster.orpheusweb.co.uk/threads/add5.html size 12 measured 12 wraps/cm; size 16 was 16 wraps/cm. Freccio filo di Scozia probably is just the Italian packaging of Freccia. A difference of 1 wrap/cm, even for fairly thick threads, doesn't make that much difference. Cotton is a natural thread and I measured the two threads on different days. Coats and Anchor are two of many brand names brand names manufactured by Coats plc. for the history of the company and thus a list of all the brands and factory locations around the world see http://www.coats.com/history.htm Opera is/was a similar thread to Freccia, but it came in different sizes, 5, 10, 20 and 30. They are both 3 ply which does make them firmer than 2 ply perle, but are Z spun whereas most (all) perles are S spun. Brenda I have a spider sampler pattern that is drawn for coton perle 8 I would like to substitute Anchor Freccia 12. The label says 3-ply crochet thread the Coats site says it is 100% Egyptian cotton. The project needs a firmer, less stretchy thread than the perle the Freccia colors are divine so I bought three balls. Checking Brenda's book, I didn't see it listed but maybe it's an established product with a new name? Similar to something else listed? And a BIG HUG to you Bev!!! Thank you for sending me to the Opera--I actually own some of this thread love it for Roumanian point lace. I didn't make the connection with Anchor/Coats/Patton et al but I'm OK now after some extra Googling at your suggestion! I found Coats Freecio filo de Scozia (Italian) in Brenda's book how could they not be the same thread with a slightly different spelling?? The Freecia threads I just bought are made in Hungary IMHO, they are not the same as the Opera. The Freecia seem more firm--just what I was looking for. What's really cool is that the w/cm is 17 for both DMC perle 8 the Freecia vs 13 for Opera. [lace] Lace Exhibition in Birmingham
I have just known about an exhibition at Birmingham Museum which may interest you: 'Lost in Lace' is its name. Maybe some arachne member in Birmingham could tell us a little bit about it. [lace] Lace Exhibitions
In message CAEXvTvOf85+QucF6BjiQS=azw5crexpag8jpvobwfcpysg5...@mail.gmail.com, maria greil mariagr...@gmail.com writes I have just known about an exhibition at Birmingham Museum which may interest you: 'Lost in Lace' is its name. Maybe some arachne member in Birmingham could tell us a little bit about it. I plan to go and see it but have two events to attend before then (Knitting Stitching Show in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, for five days next week, then the National Christmas Lacemakers' Fair in Solihull the weekend after - between those and going to The Hollies and work, I can't see me getting to the exhibition until at least the Wednesday after the Solihull fair. Once I have been, I will let you know what I thought of it. It would be nice to get to see Louise West's exhibition in Derby, too, but I'm not sure how long that is on for. With reference to the Harrogate show, is there anyone by any chance free to help on the stand (demonstrating any kind of lace for the day) on Thursday 24th November? I know it is short notice, but I have only just been informed tonight that I will only have two helpers, not three as I had asked, which doesn't leave me a lot of time to find someone else. (With four, we can have three of us on the stand at any one time - essential when it is busy - and it means that we can each have two hours of free time to look round). Let me know off list if you can help. -- Jane Partridge - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace] IOLI CDs
Has anyone received their CD from this year's IOLI Convention yet? I ordered and paid for one, but have not heard anything, and wondered if I had fallen off the list somehow. I have my receipt here! Last year I ordered one, and got it in October, so wondered if there was a reason they are late this year. Re: [lace] Lace site with pattern downloads (and lace for kids)
lizke...@netscape.net wrote: I ran across this web site with some free downloads. It is not in English, but there are patterns. One of the downloads is a booklet with several simple looking patterns. http://www.nytiknipling.dk/ There are some great patterns for children just learning lace (going back to that recent thread). They're mostly simple tapes, of things that would be fun for children. The site includes a .pdf of the entire book, Nyt i knipling by Aase Nilsson. Warning: some of the patterns are very slow to load! Robin P.
