Anchor Freccia is in Addendum 5 http://paternoster.orpheusweb.co.uk/threads/add5.html size 12 measured 12 wraps/cm; size 16 was 16 wraps/cm.
Freccio filo di Scozia probably is just the Italian packaging of Freccia. A difference of 1 wrap/cm, even for fairly thick threads, doesn't make that much difference. Cotton is a natural thread and I measured the two threads on different days. Coats and Anchor are two of many brand names brand names manufactured by Coats plc. for the history of the company and thus a list of all the brands and factory locations around the world see http://www.coats.com/history.htm Opera is/was a similar thread to Freccia, but it came in different sizes, 5, 10, 20 and 30. They are both 3 ply which does make them firmer than 2 ply perle, but are Z spun whereas most (all) perles are S spun. Brenda >> I have a spider sampler pattern that is drawn for coton perle 8 & I would >> like to substitute Anchor Freccia 12. The label says 3-ply crochet thread & >> the Coats site says it is 100% Egyptian cotton. Checking Brenda's book, I didn't see it listed but >> maybe it's an established product with a new name? Similar to something >> else listed? > And a BIG HUG to you Bev!!! Thank you for sending me to the Opera--I > actually own some of this thread & love it for Roumanian point lace. I found Coats Freecio filo de > Scozia (Italian) in Brenda's book & how could they not be the same thread > with a slightly different spelling?? The Freecia threads I just bought are > made in Hungary & IMHO, they are not the same as the Opera. The Freecia seem > more firm--just what I was looking for. What's really cool is that the w/cm > is 17 for both DMC perle 8 & the Freecia vs 13 for Opera.
