[lace] Scam
I received the (Lace) Don't waste time message from Lun Hudrun and from Janet Theaker and didn't click the link, but Malware Bytes has found malicious items which obviously got through AVG so think I'll change my anti-virus program. [lace] Return to lacemaking
Thanks for the welcome back Bev, and also for your and Sally's welcome advice. Sally touched on something that worried me from day 1 when I first started making lace Posture and position at the cushion. Pity there isn't a group of recommendations to follow: cushion at such and such a height and angle, height of table etc etc. I think that I will have to find a working position that will maximise strengths and minimise aches and pains. I cleaned my pillow last weekend and let all the tools roll in my hands, and I sorted my bobbins and looked at beautiful threads and silks. So much joy there. Re: [lace] Returning to lacemaking after long
I'd suggest starting with the lace you most enjoyed making in the past. If you're already enjoying the pleasure of holding the bobbins again, I'm sure you'll find it'll come back to you quickly - kind of like riding a bike. Well done Liz. Even though your student took a long time learning to make her lace Iâm sure she values her ability to make it and will always remember you with gratitude for the way you would repeatedly go over the same points. Thatâs teaching and learning. Happy lacemaking to you both Alex - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace] Returning to lacemaking after long
Hello micki (and everyone) Welcome back to lace ;) My free advice is to start with a pattern with just a few pairs to get a sense of the process as you mention. It doesn't need to be a beginning pattern, if you can see right away what you need to do to start - a bookmark is logical or could be a motif like a Christmas ornament. Of course you will likely need to try different arrangements with the pillow, you and chair/table, or standing comfortably with the pillow. Maybe even winding bobbins is going to be painful, or could end up being therapeutic! Please let us know how it goes! Good luck On Sun, May 3, 2015 at 12:27 PM, micki cameron mouse...@gmail.com wrote: Where should I start? Right at the beginning doing bookmarks etc? [lace] Returning to lacemaking
Mietje Sorry to hear about such a serious accident, and lingering pain. But I think you will find that a 4 year gap won't have cost you much. I had about an 8 year gap in lacemaking because of family issues and remembered virtually everything without difficulty. Although with the more difficult laces I had to resort to my notes to remember the details. I think that working something basic like a torchon edging will put you easily back into the swing of things. I do hope that the small shoulder movements of lace making will actually improve the pain situation, over time. Re: [lace] Returning to lacemaking after long
I'd be tempted to enlarge a simple bookmark pattern to about 300% plus and make it using yarn as a slim scarf. The pattern would make up quick to get you back in the saddle and using the large pattern would work well with getting you back to the pattern. Now there's a thought Liz, but I might make curtain tie backs using your idea. Bought curtains yesterday for my son and his lovely girlfriend and thought the curtains needed tie backs. I think a large scale project like this could be very positive and encouraging. Great idea, thanks! Re: [lace] Candida's lace
Mariña's book published a few years ago was on Hinojosa lace, which is related to but not exactly the same as Candida's lace. It was distributed by Holly in the US but whether there are any copies left anywhere is another matter, certainly all the UK ones were sold. As far as I have heard, the new book isn't yet published. If anyone is interested, there is still time to book one of the last places in Mariña's class at The Lace Guild summer school in August. [lace] Returning to lacemaking after long
I have not been making lace for best part of four years and suspect that it won't be easy to return to it, as I suffered a bad injury to my right shoulder with chronic pain as a legacy. But I think the time is right to give it a try. At the time of the accident I was at beginning of intermediate level I would say. Where should I start? Right at the beginning doing bookmarks etc? (it's my inclination to make a couple to refresh my knowledge and skills) but I am curious re what you would advise. I know I might not last long at the pillow initially, maybe never, but feel I need to at least give it a go.
