[lace] Australian Lace magazine

2018-03-13 Thread Elizabeth Ligeti.
The new Australian Lace magazine arrived today, - so anyone who has a
subscription should look out for it, - as it is “in the post”!!

I am busy tatting – with a #80 threads – which is Very nice – except
when one does a stupid mistake (like not paying attention, and/or mis-reading
the pattern!!) and it is rather hard to see, to Un-tat!!
I better learn to concentrate better, or more (or both!)

What are others working on?

Regards from Liz. In Melbourne, Oz.

I've seen some old bobbins like that, from the apparatus that holds the
bobbin wood piece for turning.

The hole in the bottom of the bobbin (to reduce weight?) sounds rather
interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever come across one before. I’d like
to
know more.

Hi Alex

If you could send a picture to me privately I will see what, if anything, I can
tell you about your bobbin.

[lace] Valencienne bobbin

2018-03-13 Thread Alex Stillwell
Hi Arachnids

A question for the bobbin experts

I have a curious bobbin. It is 9cm long with ahead 7mm across that is
slightly domed at the top and flat beneath. The neck is g 2.9 cm long, just
over 3mm wide and there is a thin flat collar the same width as the head. The
shank is 5.3cm long, starts at the same width as the neck and widens to nearly
9mm towards the tail where is narrows slightly. Unusually there is a hole
2.7cm deep and 4mm wide drilled upwards from the tail end of the bobbin. I
suspect this was to reduce the weight of the bobbin.

I have always understood to be for Valenciennes lace, please may I have some
more information about it.

Re: [lace] Re: Hairband Magnifier

2018-03-13 Thread Helene Ulrich
Jeri, I think the type you are describing are what I use. Hobby Lobby has
something similar. They are listed as: Optisight Magnifying Visor. I
bought mine in A.C. Moore at least 15-years ago.

[lace] 2018 Arachne Bookmark Exchange

2018-03-13 Thread Lin Hudren
We are down to the last days for sign ups for the bookmark exchange but
don't worry if you are a day or so behind. I will make it happen. Just
contact me (*linhud...@gmail.com *) and it will be
worked out. Also, if you are delayed in mailing your bookmark to your
partner, let your partner and me know so we can take the worry out of the
wonderful anticipation. This is to be FUN not a job or chore. I will be
sending out the exchange partner pairings in a day or so - no later than
3/15 but sooner if able. I am always anxious to know who will be getting
my bookmark and what far away place I will be receiving a masterpiece from.
But if you were on holiday or didn't see the announcement until the last
minute - join in anyway. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I believe
there is time to get a bookmark made and in the mail by June 1st.

This year the schedule will go like this:

February 14 Sign Ups begins thru March 13

March 15 Exchange partner assignments made and emailed out

June 1 All bookmarks should be in the mail, please

Please send me your name, snail mailing address, email address, how many
bookmark(s) you wish to make and any geographical location(s) you prefer,
if any. Thank you.

If this is your first time, you are going to have lots of pleasure. If you
have been doing this for years, you know how much fun it can be. Any type
of lace and pattern is appropriate. Any skill level is welcome. This is
"creative license" at its best. Don't be shy - shine. May the lace bug
bite for lots of enjoyment.

Hugs, Lin and the Mali
