[lace] LACE # 145- Chairman found?
I have just returned home from the February Executive Committee meeting, at which we had the chance to meet the four nominees for election to the Exec and discussed who would be doing what. All I can say at this stage is that all will be revealed at the Annual General Meeting, on Saturday 14th April, at Exeter Race Course. Bookings for the weekend convention are now under way - see the Guild's website for further details. In message 24918.7a5f41d4.3c67f...@aol.com, dmt11h...@aol.com writes Has the Lace Guild found someone to become their Chairman? I have been following the saga of Sue Dane as she has been frozen into the Chairmanship with no one to relieve her of that post, and no Vice Chairman to shadow her in order to take over in the future. In issue 143 it was announced that they had changed the Constitution so that she could serve for 5 years. The current issue does not appear to have the usual plea for someone to step up to that post, but the Vice Chairman post still appears to be empty. I have more than a passing interest in this leadership drama from across the seas, since the International Old Lacers, Inc. made me the chairman of their committee to investigate name change. One of the reasons for the name change initiative is that there is a fear that the same thing could happen here if our group does not attract new members. Re: [lace] LACE #145
HI All If you use ribbon to 'tie' the end holes together, you can spread out the skinny bits for the fansticks. As regards the length, it depends on what length you intend making, existing patterns may have to be altered, either by decreasing on a photocopier and then playing around with thread thicknesses, or 'losing' some of the pattern. Could be fun to try tho!! [lace] LACE #145
From: Sue 2harv...@tiscali.co.uk Loopy stir sticks ??? - tell me more please. They are plastic and look like large needles with an elongated eye at one end. I have not seen anything like them in the U.S. We just have little sticks that look like miniature straws. The eye part has been used as the center spine of the fan, all of them gathered together, and the pointed end is the outer part of the fan stick. Clever idea. Lacemakers are amazing at repurposing things. Re: [lace] LACE #145
I got mine yesterday too. Went to my knitting group last evening and showed them the pics of the knitted fans. I think they want me to look for some stir sticks while I'm in England. I haven't seen the loopy ones here. Malvary in Ottawa where it has been a roller-coaster week, one day warmer, next day cold. I think snow is forecast for this afternoon but only 2cm but with a flash freeze to follow. Very cold temperatures over the weekend. - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. For help, write to arachne.modera...@gmail.com. Can I also add that I'm very proud that my lace group's display is featured (even though I didn't contribute), especially the lovely piece on the back of the magazine by the much-missed Sue Willoughby.
