[lace] List is quiet

2016-10-14 Thread Susan Vossier
I too have been busy clearing my pillows for a week's course of Cantu next
week, after going to Le Puy for their annual couvige. You can see some
photos here: https://goo.gl/photos/sAaZnvYsF8nEE96x6

Both Marie-Thérèse Bonniol and Denise Etienne wer there with their
salt-crystal lace; Denise's seemed to me less brilliant than when I first
saw it eight years ago; she says the problem is the dust. Marie-Thérèse
Bonniol had two pieces I haven't seen before, but hers are under glass. I
asked if they altered with time; she said that the originals, done in 2001
hadn't budged at all, the only time she had some trouble was when she took
them to an exhibition in the north of France, they weren't framed, and the
weather was wet (as it often is in the north of France). She had to remove
them to a drier place before the salt dissolved..; Apparently she hasn't
done any "salty' lace for several years.

Missed Florence Quinette - but I see she was in Australia! Lots of lovely
lace to see, and although there seem to be fewer and fewer vendors - I miss
Bart and Francis who have some beautiful unusual threads - there was plenty
to tempt. Why is it that however many different sizes, colours types of
thread you have, you never have the right one for the next thing you want
to make?

Hallo
I made a further experuiment with a garden ornament
You can see the pictures on my bolg.
http://fdrj.de/index.php/frauke/fraukes-blog
This piece was created during my studies without purpose.
In 2006 it received an update with Scoubidou bands and a plant stake for
garden decoration
The weather was working on material. The plastic has become brittle.
It was time for a makeover.
Now I painted the bobbin lace with nail polish, to creat new areas.

2016-10-13 Thread mdhowell

Hello
I have been busy all this week helping to run the Australian Lace Guild
annual Conference in Melbourne Australia.

We have 90 people attending in total.
There are five classes : Florence Quinette from France teaching Bayeaux
Lace

Pat Milne - Torchon
Annette Lally - Honiton
Vickie Taylor - Lace jewellery
Margaret Stephens - Needle lace (
amaelia ars from her just released book ) ((sorry about the spelling!!))

There is also an evening program of lectures and a tutors showcase.
On Wednesday there was an excursion to a historic cottage and to the
Embroiderers Guild to view their lace collection and see their current
exhibition.
Altogether a wonderful week of learning and catching up with lacemakers from
around Australia.

Next years Conference will be in Launceston Tasmania.
Check out the ALG Website later in the year for more details.

Is the list very quit or have I somehow removed myself from it by mistake?

The last message I had was on 8th October.

[lace] List is quiet - been busy

2016-10-13 Thread lacel...@frontier.com
I wondered about everyone but I was busy myself. So far this month I've
attended two regular lace meetings and our annual Lace Day, taught a short
bobbin lace class in Tillamook, and am trying to get my things ready for a
3-day Bucks class starting tomorrow. The teacher threw in an extra chore of
drawing a diagram of the pattern I'm using in the class. (There's no diagram
or picture with this particular pattern.)

In addition, I've put away all the patio furniture and garden decorative items
before the strong winter storm that's hitting later today. And I'm chairman of
a sale at church in another week. I've been finishing my projects for that
sale.

I've never drawn a Bucks diagram before -- only Torchon. It's been a
challenge. There must be some basic rules/methods that I'm not aware of. I
enlarged the pattern 250 percent and have been making a lot of use of my
eraser. I can see why some diagrams are 500+ percent larger than the actual
pattern.

Now I need to run some errands while it's raining gently before the main storm
comes in. Rain is forecast for the foreseen future with an even stronger storm
(remains of a typhoon) hitting Saturday. Lovely weather to drive 30 miles each
way each day to the lace class. I'm really glad Lace Day was last week when we
had a nice day.

Janis - that looks about right. Brian Lenin in Australia looking for Pompi
Parry was the last one I got.

Don't worry - you are still with us. Canada was celebrating Thanksgiving
last weekend and it was Columbus Day in the US with many people attending
the Ithaca Lace weekend.

Malvary in Canada where is it a very dull, dreary day

Hi Janis and everyone else
Quiet, yes, but busy also yes.
Finishing my Xmas ornament for the exchange, helping husband with

[lace] Lace List is Quiet

2004-11-16 Thread Elizabeth Ligeti
Woody - you have Lots of knowledge to impart. Don't be so
modest!!! :)) :))
And there must be others in Tasmania also on the List that we have not heard
from.

Tell us what is going on in Tasmania. You people are always saying that you
are the forgotten folks - well, now is your chance to beat your own
drum :))

For those not good at geography - Tasmania is the little heart-shaped island
at the bottom of Australia. It has areas of great beauty, awesome ancient
forests, - and a lot of very good lacemakers!
Lets hear from some of them!

Re: [lace] Lace List is Quiet

2004-11-16 Thread Ruth Budge
I must say, I'm always surprised when I meet lacemakers from other parts of
Australia, to find out how many are members of Arachne, but who never
contribute anything!

At the last conference of the Australian Lace Guild, I was asked by the
Secretary of the Guild to chair a meeting of Arachne members one evening. I
was very surprised to see how many people were there, and how reluctant members
were to write a short report of our conference for all you unfortunate people
who couldn't be there!

One lady commented: I've never posted on Arachne, and I'm not going to start
now!!

Eventually, as you will remember, I did get a couple of brave souls who agreed
to write a small report, and if I remember correctly, there *were* interested
comments back from those of you living outside Australia.
