Re: [lace] Museum Kantfabriek in Horst-Int. Lace Day

2015-06-16 Thread Maria Greil
I never heard of a 'Lace Day' but a 'World Wide Knit in Public' in Madrid
(Spain) which took place last Saturday.
The Costume Museum participated (
http://museodeltraje.mcu.es/index.jsp?id=751&; ) as it did in the past and
there we were representing bobbin lace on Saturday evening. Unfortunately I
did not take any pictures of the event because we were so busy showing
people how to cross and turn threads that we missed it.
In the end there were two or three young women interested in knowing more
and now they will start to attend classes to go on learning how to make
bobbin lace.
For us it turned out to be a great success and the Museum wants us to
continue with demonstrations and workshops in the near future.

[lace] Museum Kantfabriek in Horst-Int. Lace Day

2015-06-15 Thread Dmt11home
I have gone to the website both Sue and Carolina sent, the Museum
Kantfabriek in Horst. Has anyone visited this museum? It looks, from the
website,
as though the emphasis is on machine made lace. There is a video that has
machines working, but also what appears to be some kind of lace day with
lacemakers.
I am wondering how widespread the celebration of this International Lace
Day is, and how well known it is among hand lacemakers. Are all the Dutch
lacemakers participating in this?
Also, is it every year on June 21, or is it the "fourth Sunday in June" or
some other formula?
