They should have the manual for the 500 series for a small fee, and there is
other useful free info that might apply to your machine, too.

That's the manual that came with it. Apart from other differences, the 500 has
3 buttonhole buttons and they're in a different place to the 8 on the 550 and
the 500 doesn't have either the pictogram or fancy stitches or the menus that
go with them. After the 400, the Lily went through a further 8 variations -
500, 525, 530, 535, 540, 545, 550 and 555 each adding something new.

I like things to be right even if I can work out what to do, so I'll have to
be patient and wait until the lace group starts again and then get the local
dealer to get a manual for me.

Thanks to everyone who commented for their suggestions and I wouldn't have the
cheek to join a Yahoo group just to try and get a copy of the manual..

[lace] Not lace (but it could be) - help needed

2007-08-16 Thread Jean Nathan
Sorry this isn't about lace, but it could be if I make lace on my
sewingmachine. :-D

Does anyone own a Husqvarna Lily 550, who would be willing to photocopy the
manual for me? Naturally I'd pay any costs involved. I've searched the web,
but can't find one specific to this model.

I've acquired a machine, but although it has the instruction video for it
(which I've transferred to DVD), the manual that came with it is a general
400/500, and the 550 has a lot more buttons on the front than are described
in the book. I can work out how to program it or watch the video/DVD each
time I need to do something I haven't done before, but I'd rather have the
proper instructions in printed form.

Thanks.

Have you tried contacting Husqvarna? They may be able to email you a
pdf copy of it.

On their web site, they have manuals for newer models for download, but this
model is around 10 years old. I know from previous experience of many years
ago that they would send me to my Husqvarna dealer and he will be able to
order it at an exhorbitant price. Failing getting a copy by another method,
I'll have to do that. I almost pass the shop on my way to my lace group on a
Monday, but that doesn't restart for another month or so. Basically I'm too
lazy to drive over there before the class starts, and I'm too impatient to
wait until around the end of September to get it - I'm sure I urgently need
to know which of the 8 different buttonholes I need to use :-D.

I've got a hand-cranked singer straight stitch as well, David - technology
has moved on a bit so that every appliance does much more than it used to,
but they certainly don't last as long!

Just thought I'd ask the very helpful members of this group first.

Hi Jean and everyone

You could try www.sewconsult.com
They should have the manual for the 500 series for a small fee, and there is
other useful free info that might apply to your machine, too.
If you have some time, you could try some of the user forums for quilting
machines which should show up on the search page, see if there is a relevant
question to do with one or more features of the machine, or check the
consumer reviews? sometimes they can be helpful.

Lace content: I bought a new Pfaff with a few bells and whistles. Great for
sewing cover cloths although a treadle would do just as well ~
