Re: [LU] Wembkey bound

2024-05-17 Thread Ted
Looked (& sounded) bloody brilliant on the TV Dave!

I was gutted I missed it due to leg surgery on Wednesday - first "major"
game I've missed since I missed out on a Paris ticket in '75! :-(

As a season ticket holder, I'll be eligible for a ticket (I guess?), but
I'll be struggling to walk. I'm going to try to contact the club/ticket
office to see if I can get some sort of "disabled" ticket but I'm not
holding out much hope of getting there.

Do people think I might get any joy from the club? Can't say I'm confident!

Re: [LU] Someone turn the lights off on the way out

2024-05-04 Thread Ted
I just feel sorry for everyone: The fans who've had to endure the last 7 or
8 games

The players - as they obviously didn't want to finish the season like this,
and Farke!

If you'd have given him the impossible task (at the start of the season) to
get 90 points, we wouldn't have thought it possible.
But he did that. Any other year, we'd have been promoted.

I'm not a fan of Leicester, but they redis their form when it mattered.
And as for Ipswich, what an amazing couple of seasons they've had -
congratulations.

And now we head for the play offs, will we rediscover our form? Personally,
I doubt it - but, you never know. Never say never.

It all just seems a bit flat.

Re: [LU] Stoke

2024-03-06 Thread Ted
Yes! I do want us to go up!
Surely, the whole point of having a pyramid system is that you want to get
to the top! Otherwise, what's the point??

I want to see us on MOTD, and hear us talked about. Yes, we had our
disappointments when we were there, but we also had some great moments.

Won't we be better prepared this time? (IF we go up) With better investment
from 49ers and previous experience? I think we will. We've got to strive to
keep improving so we can challenge the top third - I want us to be fighting
for a European/top 6 place in the next few years, not being a team that
scrapes into playoffs and stays in the championship.

(Plus I'm knocking on now and can't afford to wait another 14 - 15 years
fro promotion like last time!!!) 藍

Be optimistic Robert! We can go up and not only survive, but improve!! MOT

As usual, a great assessment Dave, agree with everything.

On the way home, the radio Leeds team saw it differently and seemed to
think we were always in control! Didn't look like that to me in the 2nd

3 points is all that matters at this stage tho, all we can do is win and

Agree with both of your reports Dave.

I saw the moaning on Waccoe too, and one post really p'd me off. Some
(young kid? Joined Waccoe in 2018) was moaning about the lack of atmosphere
and the fact that there are two many over 60s in the crowd who can barely
smile let alone create a "cauldron". Cheeky tw@t. I resisted the urge to
respond as it would soon get into a slagging match.
It was us "over 60s" that built Leeds' "reputation" that probably attracted
people like him to go in the first place!

Re: [LU] Bournemouth

2022-11-06 Thread Ted
Nice one Dave. Spot on as per.

After 50 mins I was miserable and thinking "what the hell am I doing here
(again!)"

I've watched MoD twice, the full match and this morning I'm still beaming.

I'll enjoy the moment and leave questioning Marsch's tactics for another
day.

Sums up my feelings exactly!

I want any Leeds manager to do well but I really think Marsch is totally
out of his depth. I agree with Rich, playing 3 wingers, without any on the
wing is ridiculous. Phillips (when he got a touch!) had no cross-field
passing options - which is what he excelled at under Bielsa.

I'm no tactician, but seeing the line-up - no-one sat around me could
figure out what the hell the formation would be - and when we kicked off,
neither did the players!

Oh well, three points on Saturday (or even one?) - might be enough - but
can we do that? Who knows, but here's hoping!

Totally agree with that Matt.

I always thought with Bielsa, if we got the investment over the years we'd
have a great chance of challenging at least the top 6, if not the top 4.
Now, I'm worried that we'll just become another Everton, Spurs. Palace, etc
and just hang on to Prem football playing "safe" boring football (That's IF
we don't go down - if we do - I think we're even more fu*ked)

Even if the new bloke proves me wrong, it will take me some time to get

Yes - I agree with all your comments too Dave.

I'm still amazed how much effort Forshaw puts in too, to say he's been out
for nigh on 2 years. You'd never know!

The crowd were (understandably!) quiet for a few small periods - mainly at
0-3, but overall I thought they were amazing! It's the first time in a
long time I left the stadium with a hoarse voice - what was left of it.
Losing 1-4 and hardly anyone left before the end, plus the 10 mins of "we
all love Leeds" chant was brilliant.
(compare that to the empty Newcastle stadium yesterday 10 mins before the
end of their game!)

After the Liverpool game we'll have played the top 4 on the trot, 3 of them
away from home. Did we really expect any points? Especially with 9 out
injured! If these games had been spread out I don't think it would seem
quite so bad. Like others have said, the games against the bottom half of
the table are more important to us. I'm still quietly confident we'll be
okay.

Can't say I'm looking forward to the Liverpool game though! I just hope it
isn't another big hammering. Have we any players (other than Firpo) ready
to come back?

Merry Christmas everyone!

Yes - first half after the goal I thought we'd romp it.

Last 20 mins were pretty nervy - it's never bloody easy!!

Not a good sign when the crowd are whistling for the end with 5 or 6 mins
left!

Agreed, the jury is out on Rodrigo, and Dallas and Klich are not the
players they were last season. I thought Jamie Shack had a good game and
Raph is a level above the rest.

3 points though

Agreed. An entertaining game tho for a (non) friendly.
Both sides seemed to bypass the (non existing) midfield and it was end to
end stuff - plus a bad mistake by Meisler (sp?) - let's hope he's got that
out the way now rather than in a fortnight!

Can't argue with any of that Dave - that's exactly how it was for us too,
sat in the NE Upper. To us, as people were more spread out, there seemed
more than 8000 there!

Robert - no recognition of Alioski on the lap of honour. I don't think
he's actually signed the contract for Galascum has he?

Shame Kalvin's injury kept him away from the lap of honour as well.

Re: [LU] Decimalisation Day!

2021-02-16 Thread Ted
I remember going with my Dad in the Lowfields in the late 60s and he paid 7
and 6, I went in another (boys?) entrance lower down and paid 3 shillings.
We met up on the other side of the turnstiles and we went to get our usual
place near the halfway line.

(I'm sure after '71 I still paid 15p to go in the boys entrance)

We'd go in to the ground as soon as the gates opened (12-1ish?) to try and
get a place against the wall so I could see.

We also took a small wooden step/stool that my Dad made for me to stand on
to get a better view. (A common thing in those days)
No health & safety nonsense in those times!!!

2021-02-01 Thread Ted
Nice report Dave.

Yes - for me the best performance of the season, and definitely the best
result. It was, as you say, "Bielsa-ball" at its best!

I loved the unselfishness of Bamford's pass to Harrison- not many strikers
would have done that! Bamford's interview at the end was class too. He
was my MoM.

Yeah - I agree Nick - I thought the first 30 mins was brilliant, Ayling was
great. Thoroughly enjoyable. We were the better side first half, them
second. I agree, a draw would have been fairer but I've no real complaints.
(Bearing in mind it was 5 years ago yesterday that we got Steve fukcing

Re: [LU] Bielsa

Where does Bielsa sit in the list?
From where we were before he came to where we are now - it's unbelievable.
Not many people would have moaned if we'd have got rid of Phillips, Cooper,
Klich and maybe Dallas - but what he has done with those players is
un-be-fucking-belevable.
For me, I love everything about the man, his humility, his down to
earth-ness - he's above O'Leary. I can't wait to see and witness his
assault on the Premiership.
All the years of watching shite - these last 2 years have veen so enjoyable
- and now it's paid off.
Bielsa is God.

After 540 Football League appearances and 726 in total for Leeds, Hunter
signed for Bristol City on 28 October 1976 for £40,000, and remained there
for three years, making 108 league appearances (122 in total) and scoring

I'd suggest "The Box":

https://arcinspirations.com/box-leeds

Just around the corner from Sous le Nez on Infirmary Street. Gets a bit
busy but it's got plenty of screens. There's not many "Sports" bars in
Leeds showing footy these days.

Ted.

Got to agree John - coming out the ground last Saturday, all I could hear
was people saying "it's happening again"!

I really enjoyed last season because the way we played under Bielsa was a
nice surprise. This season - people's expectations have been too high and
we/I feel it's now or never. I'm a nervous fu**ing wreck!

Re: [LU] WBA

2019-10-02 Thread Ted
Yes - it was a really good win, at home - especially after letting in late
goals against Swansea and Derby.
Although it was a tense last 30 minutes, it was a great match to watch and
the atmosphere was top notch!

WBA are the best side we've seen this season, and it seemed quite strange
not to have the lion's share of possession - is that the first time under
Bielsa?

And listening to Bielsa's interview on the way home, he said the the
Roberts substitution was tactical as their shape had changed after he came
on and he needed to change things again. no reflection on Roberts himself.

So maybe there is plan B!

I really don't know what the answer is!

We dominate games with great football (at times), but it just isn't going
for us!

I just think, more of the same and it might click. Other than spending
millions in Jan (which we don't have), what is the answer?

Saying that, these last 2 seasons have been a lot more entertaining than
most of the previous 14 - and I suppose at the end of the day I pay to be
entertained!

So I'll just keep the faith and believe in Bielsa!

(By the way, Man City's away kit?)

My lad recommended someone that he used from Facebook so I got mine through
him.

I just paid the person via PayPal, (I paid for a lifetime subscription, as
opposed to annual, as well as an annual fee for the iFollow)
I was then sent an Amazon Firestick via the post. It had iPTV installed on
it.
The stick just plugs into a HDMI slot on your TV, with another lead to a
power socket.
To use it, using your TV remote you just choose the HDMI slot for your
"source".
Once your TV is on the Firestick's home page, you just need to set it up by
entering your WiFi password.
..and that's it really!
Your stick provider will have installed iPTV as an App, just open this and
the various viewing options will be laid out in a user friendly interface.
For example on mine I have "folders" for TV, Sport, Live Events (Sky Box
Office, BT Box Office etc), iFollow (EFL Games), Films (Inc. Sky Box Office
Films), etc. You just navigate with your stick remote to whatever you want
to watch and click it to play! it's not 100% perfect (sometimes it might
freeze for a second or two) but generally it's very good (as long as you
have decent Internet I suppose!)

There's some decent providers out there! Some have LUTV on as well (mine
unfortunately doesn't!) If you're on Facebook, there's a few good ones on
the "Leeds Media" facebook account.

Hope that makes some sort of sense!

Re: [LU] Barnsley

2019-09-12 Thread Ted
I bought a "fully loaded" Amazon Firestick that had iPTV installed as well
as iFollow (The EFL's football league TV coverage that covers every EFL
game).
I recently went on holiday to Croatia and just plugged my FireStick into
the apartment's TV, entered the (local) WiFi password and it worked a treat!

We watched the Leeds/Swansea game followed by the Luke Cambbell fight on it.

I would recommend this option! It's also great for watching Leeds' away
games now I can't seem to be able to get tickets anymore! (Being a regular
for 50+ years, season ticket holder for 35 years and going to 5 or 6 away
games a season doesn't count as loyal apparently!!) ;-)

Re: [LU] January

2019-04-07 Thread Ted
Okay - in footballing terms, I often hear people say "they play average
football" to describe the way a team plays all of the time.

That's what I thought you were alluding to, not the true meaning of the
word!

So I concede.

(even though I think we've played better than average this season!)

 :-)

Even Wilder agrees, there's still a long way to go. BELIEVE!

Re: [LU] Blackburn - still buzzing

2018-12-27 Thread Ted
Great report Dave!

Like you say - games like that make all the suffering worthwhile. I can't
explain to a person who doesn't "get" football just what that last 5
minutes feels like, Unbelievable.
The sheer joy when Roofe's header went in! I'm bloody 60 now and I was
jumping around like my Grandkids on a sugar-rush!

What a few days its been! I was lucky enough to be ringside in Manchester
for Josh's win against Frampton - what an incredible performance! Then to
get back to the pub on Sunday to see us come from 2 down to beat Villa at
the death was just superb (plus I had a few quid on a JW/LUFC double at 7
to 1) - could it get any better? YES! To go down 2-1 in the 91st minute
and to then get the win - I'm still buzzing now!

Who'd have thought we'd be top, and 6 points clear of 3rd at Christmas!
Happy days!

Ted H
p.s. I'm a Leeds fan though, and so have still got this "is it all going to
go wrong" worm in my brain! Goddammit.

Sometimes the world is a good place.

I was lucky enough to be ringside for Josh's demolition of Frampton last
night in Scumchester, I didn't think the Selby fight could be matched but
that was pure, world level, class.

Then today I watched my beloved Leeds (sadly today only TV) come back from
2-0 down to beat one of the divisions tipped sides to win 3-2.
I can't remember, in recent history, a better sporting weekend.

As an old bloke not much excites me these days but I'm absolutely buzzing
today.

Agreed!
I said to my mates at the time - that was probably one of the best moves
I've seen by a Leeds team over the last 14 years! Just brilliant. Such a
shame it wasn't topped off with a goal.

Re: [LU] Bolton - a few thoughts

2018-08-15 Thread Ted
Yep - totally agree Rich.
Like you as well, I'd have Pontus in but he does annoy me how he goes down
so easy (for a big bloke) and stays down trying to get the foul. If I was
a big bloke like him I'd want to show that I wasn't hurt at all. Modern
players I guess.

Being a Leeds fan- I've still got his nagging doubt. We've been here
before playing the "pressing" game (under Christianson), although in
Bielsa's defence the opposition we've played has been slightly better than
last season. Will it last? Will teams suss us out? Will we run out of
steam? Is our squad good or fit enough to last?

On the plus side - it's entertaining!!! And that's what I pays me money
for.

Also, I heard yesterday that 3 wins at the beginning of the season is the
best we've done since Armfield's days - can that be right?!?!?!

Re: [LU] 31 years ago

2018-05-29 Thread Ted
Nice one Dave.

About 10 of us went in a tranny van, we stopped somewhere in Brum & 2 lads
nipped out for a pi*s, police appeared from nowhere and nicked 'em. The
police told us to ring the station after match to collect them
A copper then climbed in the back of our van and emptied bottles of beer
all over the floor - great - we had to perch from then on to avoid getting
soaked.

Like you say, Shezza's goal gave us a few minutes of joy.

After game we found massive "estate" pub somewhere in Brum so we could use
the phone. Eventually police told us our mates had been released.
The pub started to fill up with locals who "took a dislike" to us - after a
bit of argy-bargy we had to make a hasty exit, just getting away in our van.

The next day we learned that our 2 mates were still being held when we had
rung. They were released at 2am in Brum city centre with no money or coats
- not good when one of them had a Leeds shirt on - they had to hide until
it got light and then hitch home!

Happy days... 

Re: [LU] Norwich

2018-04-28 Thread Ted
Is PH any better than the Hock?

He left Barnsley perilously close to the drop, in fact they may not escape
it, and if the season was a month longer he'd take us down.

Not looking forward to next season with him in charge. Get rid after next
Sunday for me.
