2019-04-07 Thread Ted
Okay - in footballing terms, I often hear people say "they play average
football" to describe the way a team plays all of the time.

That's what I thought you were alluding to, not the true meaning of the
word!

So I concede.

(even though I think we've played better than average this season!)

 :-)

Even Wilder agrees, there's still a long way to go. BELIEVE!

2012-01-25 Thread Mark Humphries
I think that we aren’t doing as well as I hoped (20 points clear), and we
aren’t doing a poorly as I feared (20 points adrift)

We are doing slightly worse than I expected at the start of the season, but
then again I think Gradel was a match winner and it helps to have 2 in a
team (Snoddy is the other), so that would explain it - plus we are not far
off.

I don’t think Bates spending £5m of his own cash would siginificantly alter
either where we are, or where I would expect. It would take a LOT of cash
(£15m) for me to expect automatic promotion - and that’s never going to
happen. I knew that 7 years ago. I knew that 10 years ago.

I can understand why you might have come to that conclusion - and while I
only go to the occasional game, I'm certainly not "pro-Bates". But life is
not as black & white as some here would have it. Situations like the sale
of Howson are complex, and we can't really come to a proper judgement
without all the facts. So I prefer to stay open-minded and try and reach a
proper
understanding as best I can, rather than simply "blaming Bates".

And while we might not be playing particularly well, we are still very
much in with a chance of promotion - we're only 1 point of the playoffs, and
only 8pts off automatic promotion. This league is unpredictable, and nobody
is running away with it - even West Ham, with their sugardaddy owners and
their parachute payments, are only 11pts ahead of us.

It took 8 years to get back to the top division in the 1980s, when it was
arguably easier to achieve. It's taken 8 years so far this time, and we're
actually pretty close, and we went much further down than we did back then.

I don't actually expect us to get back this season, and even if we don't,
I'd still like Grayson to get more time. Stability should not be
underestimated, even if that does mean more Bates-related misery. Because he
won't go
until he wants to, and until it makes financial sense for him.

I don't think there are any "pro Bates" on the list Dave, I am certainly
not.

I just don't believe everything is necessarily his fault, he is just another
in the long line of shit owners we have had, and that boycotts and protests
aren't going to make him piss off. Unless someone can come up with
something constructive it just comes across at constant whingeing and
sniping. Im not just talking about the letting off steam to the list, we
all do it, it's the sniping and constant bringing up of anything/everything
they perceive as negative.

When that happens, and I believe its not actually all Bates doing, I will
say so, just for a bit of balance.

2012-01-24 Thread McWilliams, Brendan, VF-Group (bmcwill)
Irrespective of going to games or not, I can't imagine anyone in the list is
pro Bates? Wash your mouth out! :->

I've not been to ER for years due to living in different climes, but the man is
about as transparent as a bag of ***t and it is this lack of transparency that
is poisoning everything leaving every word he utters (and now to a lesser
extent SG) as infuriating and provocative.

I genuinely admire the massive dedication the ST holders amongst you have in
forking out that MASSIVE amount of money for previously what was 3rd and now
2nd tier footy. Unless I lived in Leeds city itself, I don't know how all of
you do it - but it still doesn't make KB more likeable.

Rather I would say the divergence amongst the listers is if the club should be
run as

- a viable footballing concern: if not profitable as a business at least not a
non-money losing operation with football being the (massively) primary focus
i.e. players.

- going "beyond football": profits are NOT exclusively for the football side,
are used to develop and "diversify" the income streams of the club (conference
areas, boxes) and not all profits are used automatically on players due to
owner's whim, and as is his wont given he is the owner. Allegedly.

Please be gentle with the flaming responses... ;->

BMW

PS I'm still 100% with Rich Walker on Becchio. :->

I don't think we are lucky. I know many of you don't watch anyone other than us
but there are some awful teams, awful games in this league. However those awful
teams can be world beaters the week after. I think we are just typical. A good
guide is how the neutral commentators cover the games. Hardly ever do they say
we were crap, lucky, certain players are not good enough etc...

I think its a mixture of both. I think we have a manager who is doing
a good job getting results with below average resources, but we are
also being lucky at the same time I dont think we'd have had 7/9 were
it not for some good luck and some sendings off.
The luck wont last - the question is, do the points keep coming then?

PETE CASS (1962 - 2011) Rest In Peace Mate

Re: [LU] January

2012-01-23 Thread Alec McQueen
Ah, but according to the List experts we are playing so badly it cannot
possibly last.

With every fluky win we are having a luckier and luckier season.

I happen to disagree. I think we have a manager who is doing a good job getting
results with below average resources.

Cheers
Alec

[LU] January

2012-01-23 Thread Matt Anderson
Not wishing to dampen the misery bit isn't 7 points out of 9 in January so
far probably our best start to a year for ages?

January always seems to bring any optimism crashing down but this year it's
off the pitch not on!
