Re: [LU] That was a landmark win

2022-01-18 Thread John Lee via Leedslist
I’ve seen plenty of commentary about Moyes, but essentially he is correct - we
got an advantage, for once, from an FA decision. And whilst the ‘new’ Leeds
might not have questioned fixture scheduling recently, we certainly have in the
past. OK, Moyes sounded bitter, but understandably so imho?

Great result though, but can we carry that form, and intensity, through to the
Newcastle game? A win, and the league table will look much better!

Spot on... I had not realised until I saw the replays in full that we lost
2 of our main players and had to throw some youngsters on early. And we
still won. I think this speaks volumes about MB's systemic approach... he
is getting the youngsters to a stage where they can fill in successfully.
This kind of development is our future. I don't think we will be in a
position to compete with the big boys' transfer fees for a long time (if
ever?). We need to become successful at developing our youth (as a lot of
other clubs need to as well). Good coaching is everything.

I agree , that was probably as good a win as any under Bielsa,  in all the
circumstances. A top 5 team in great form , a team whose style and way of
playing means they generally beat us, and who score more from corners than
anyone else , our real Achilles heel,  and who have got more points from losing
positions than any other snd who pegged us back twice.
Dont forget in addition to the goals we also hit the bar, had 2 good chances
for James and had a perfectly good goal ( rightly ) disallowed  by a perverse
rule,. We were the better team for large parts of the game.
All this with the spine of the team missing (CH and captain,  CM who is our
main player, and CF ) in addition to other first team and squad players -
(Llorente,  Geldhart Robert's, Shackleton,  Summerville, Greenwood, )and a
bench where only a not yet fully fit Rodrigo has started a league game and
included a 15 yr old. Then to cap it all we lose Forshaw and Firpo in the first
20mins
For them to keep going , keep playing and keep believing was extraordinary
indeed and is a massive testament to the players and to the manager.  Compare
Bielsa and his acceptance of it all to Moyes and his whinging " we had to play
on Wednesday " remarks.

Still ravaged by injuries, confidence still possibly low, London hoodoo,
players playing in abnormal positions, we still managed to engineer a win.

Unless things go spectacularly badly, I am now reasonably confident we will be
OK. We need to win against the teams below us and pick up a few points here and
there, and we will get to the 36 that we need.
