Re: [LU] Wednesday ( Saturday)

2023-09-03 Thread Robert Heath
Get used to games like this, lads. Pretty much every team is going to come
to ER with that gameplan. That's over 180 mins this week we have thrown all
we've got at a packed defence and garnered one scrambled goal. I think,
despite the fact that all our "stars" have legged it over the horizon, that
we are still going to lose loads of players to international squads in the
next week. Nevertheless, I hope Farke has enough of a rump of the team left
to work on ways to get past these low blocks. Farke has been hugely
impressive so far.but now the real acid test arrives. Can he mould
this lot we are left with into a potent Div 2 side?

Anyway.an international break in which we are condemned to
watching the bloody Wales matches! What a comedown!

These “Happy 70th Birthday, John” messages are brough to you by the Sheffield
Wednesday society of entertainers and fun-loving footballers.

A madly frustrating game. Sheff W were set up not to lose. They bullied our
’star’ forwards relentlessly and were allowed to by the ref. You could see that
had we got a goal we would have got 4. But we didn’t.

The keeper made two very good reflex saves to keep out Rutter and Summerville.
And Gnonto had a decent shout for a penalty ignored.

Meslier - good at the saving and shot stopping, less good on the distribution -
although he was probably following orders
Ayling - as soon as we get the ball he disappears up the wing, beyond the
midfield…which makes it really hard for him to get back and cover defensive
duties. Missed a carbon copy of the header he scored again WBA
Shackleton - one of our best players on the day, and yet he’s not a left back -
when did we last have a good left back, was it really Dorigo?
Rodon - not convinced yet. There’s something there, but there’s also something
missing - bit like a new Pontus without the flare
Struijk - I like him, I think he’s a good player - the Dutch and the Belgian
national teams don’t come calling for bad players - yet, there is always
something lurking just waiting to go wrong.
Ampadu - signing of the season so far - energy, tackling, commitment and decent
passing
Gray - looks to me like a young Gary McAllister - needs time and support - and
like Ampadu, needs movement ahead for when he has the ball
Summerville - I like him, pretty much unstoppable when running with the ball,
needs to get his head up and release the thing earlier sometimes - needs
referees to understand the fouling he is subjected to
Piroe - hardly saw him - as a withdrawn striker - doesn’t seem to make sense -
poor first touch, poor free kick
Rutter - one or two good things, nice subtle touches through for running
teammates might have come to more. Also one dreadful attempt to lob the keeper
when through on goal that just feel into the keeper’s arms.
Gnonto - got a battering off their defenders but kept getting back up and
fighting on. Deserved more, including a penalty.

Spence - came on and immediately made two really good blocks
Kamara - not on long enough to have an opinion.

They came and got their first point of the season. So having failed to beat the
bottom team the week after beating the top team, this feels like points lost.

[LU] Wednesday ( Saturday)

2023-09-03 Thread nattan--- via Leedslist
As Rich W has already said this was not the fun in the sun we were all hoping
for.The rail strike ( we had to get my daughter in law to come from Salford to
pick us up - what a darling) meant the pubs were sparse as presumably more fans
drove, but the mood was upbeat , general feeling about Sinisterra and all the
rest was" fuck em" and we dont want any of them back., but that a game against
a poot Wednesday side was just what we needed It should have been that way as
we did create chances and more half chances but they were all fluffed. Piroe ,
our greatest hope, really showed why he is not in the Prem as he dragged his
only opportunity well wide - for some bizzare reason our new no9 , with his
amazing goalscoring record was playing behind Rutter.  Rutter fairly
ineffective missed 2 good chances,  the first well saved the second a soft chip
right into the keepers hands. Shack had a good shot just wide from outside the
box, Summerville blasted 2 over, and Ayling missed an identical  header to the
one he got v west brom.
Wednesday offered almost nothing but had 2 chances all game, the first Mes
looking more like his old self came out well to save , the other a cross to the
penalty spot to an unmarked striker who semed to blast it into the ground and
over - best chance of the game  A clean sheet is very welcome but it was 2
points dropped
Hard to be too disappointed,  our season really starts v millwall.  Farke has 2
weeks to get everything sorted . The players who are here are here to stay,
whether they like it or not ( Willie and Summerville both certainly put in the
effort yesterday) The new players are here and , international players apart,
he has 2 weeks to get them to gel and get some of the injured lads back

Lets hope the new additions are all we hope for - Jaidon Anthony looks decent
enough as a replacement for Sinisterra but without that extra quality. - Farke
now has the team he has and can get on with it. We have been the better team,
despite results, in every game so things should look good if we can get it to
click. Millwall away is a very good test, a shit team and a shit club who will
give it everything in their cup final
