Re: [LU] Anticpated squad at end of day

2017-09-01 Thread Kevin Lewis UK SBS
Have to say, I'm reasonably happy with the squad as it now is.

Goalkeepers: Wiedwald with Lonergan as cover - seems reasonable
Full Backs: Ayling, Anita, Berardi, Borthwick-Jackson - Pretty Strong
C Backs: Jansson, Cooper, Pennington, Shaughnessy - A bit thin if Jansson is
injured or suspended much
Midfield: O'Kane, Phillips, Vieira, Klich - Doing the business at the moment
Attacking Midfield: Alioski, Saiz, Hernandez, Roofe, Dallas, Sacko - Oustanding
Strikers: Lassoga, Cibicki, Grot, Ekuban - All unknown quantities, hopefully 1
or 2 will come good.

Add to that the versatility, of Ayling, Berardi, Anita, Shaughnessy, Roofe,
Cibicki and that looks like a real squad.

Apart from Centre Back, the biggest problem could be players getting pissed off
with lack of playing time.
But one assumes if they're not playing then it is because they are not good
enough!

Of course there is also the question of whether the 'whole' is eventually
greater or less than the sum of the parts.

KOT.

Yes I find it v.frustrating that we've not heard about Pennington since he was
injured. Why is that ?
I don't think Cooper is the answer despite a few decent games

TC seems very reluctant to give any info about injured players, but from what i
have read both Berardi and Pennington should be back in training and possibly
available for the Burton game. Ekuban has a more long term injury having had
(or needing) an operation on a broken bone in his footO'Kane is another concern
- he has pulled out of Irish squad with a recurrence of his groin injury - the
one that cost him his place last season.
Given the strength in depth that we now seem to have , we should be OK - Cooper
has worked miracles and will probably keep Pennington out of the team (he may
even have been preferred over him from the start, given that he was made
captain) Anita has done  a great job as back up for Berardi and made sure he
has not been missed (plus we have Borthwick-Jackson)
O'Kane -if he is out for a while- will be replace either by Vieira, whom many
of us think is the best of the four defence midfielders, or Klich who should be
good once he is fully fit, or even by Anita, so gain, whilst a blow not a
serious one

As we are constantly being reminded, it is a long hard season, with scope for
lots of injuries, suspensions and loss of form / tiredness and so is more and
more a squad game rather than a team game
Will the first XI below and the 'reserves' I have listed it appears that we
have cover for every position and no one player (unlike Wood last year) is
irreplaceable (as long as Longeran is still up to the job if called upon)

He's been give the number 9, I know that squad numbers don't really mean much
any more, but the 9 has a special significance and at least signifies we aren't
chasing any other strikers.

2017-08-31 Thread {broken-address} Richard Walker
just been announced on Twitter Dave - Lasogga has signed for the season which
suggests to me he will be a starter.
It's starting to look like the days when Robbie Keane was 4th striker and had
to be content with coming on and scoring in the 85th minute.
I hope TC can manage this lot. Lasogga looks like a tw - I base that on
nothing other than looking at his youtube vid.
